Well, it looks a nailed on certainty (can anyone ever say that about our beloved Blues) that we could be traveling to places with such exotic names as Kapaz PFK, Odds Bk and Aberdeen in just 4 months time?! The Sky 4 have monopolized the FA Cup semis so 7th place will get us into the qualifying rounds of the Europa Poisoned Chalice Cup.
We are all aware of how this cup regularly screws up at least one Premier League team each time. Hopefully it won't be us. Qualifying for the group stages and making progress to the knock out part will mean at least another 10 games. A chance to play Thursday and Sunday matches and rack up enough air miles to buy a plane!
On the bright side it does give us European football that most/some of us crave. More opportunities to play a mixture of good young urns which will be a huge step up for them from the U23 Premier League2.
I must admit, any time I get to watch the Blues play gives me a smile of anticipation for the days leading up to the match. Well it has recently! Last week I wrote about the Blues being Battered and Blue. This week it is the Baggies who were not so much battered and blue but outplayed to such an extent it was "boring" at times! But I can take "boring" when it describes how much we dominated the game.
Not sure what game Pulis was watching when he said 3-0 did not reflect the match! It was so easy contrary to all expectations and as Ronald says each premier league presents a different challenge and approach. His team selection surprised many but both Mirallas and Jags did what he expected from them. Maybe a different team next Saturday against Hull minus Niasse?
On another thought, I was looking through YouTube to see if I could find Alex the Great but with no luck. But I did find the 1967 cup match v Wolves at a packed Molyneux. My dad too me to that match and its funny what you remember.
In no particular order - sitting at pitch level because the seats in the stand were so low. Westy making a terrific tip over from a Wolves pile driver in the first half. Then finally almost being crushed to death on leaving the ground. I think the attendance was around 55,000! I don't remember the goals but Alex the Great did play. We won the replay 3-1 in front of 60,000! It's a 27 minute black and white clip that makes wonderful viewing. How did we play such amazing football on those pitches?
Seventh Heaven! For those of you whose European Geography is a bit weak - Kapaz is in Azerbaijan, Odds is in Norway and Aberdeen is knows!
