Season › 2016-17 › News Lukaku 'not interested' in overtures from China Lyndon Lloyd Tuesday, 10 January, 2017 27comments | Jump to most recent According to a report in Belgium, Romelu Lukaku is being courted by big money in China but the striker won't be tempted. Het Nieuwsblad suggest that following Axel Witsel's move to the fledgeling Chinese league, Lukaku is one of five Belgium internationals to have been offered lucrative terms in the Far East. Both Lukaku, whose European Champions League ambitions are well known, and his agent Mino Raiola have apparently rejected the notion out of hand. Disclaimer Ian Hollingworth 1 Posted 10/01/2017 at 17:18:51 That's a shame as we could have done with the silly money transfer fee as it may be we need money before we spend... as per bloody usual with Everton FC.And yes, I am getting pissed off with Everton's transfer dealings! Ricardo Gimpardsle 2 Posted 10/01/2017 at 17:24:24 Can the Chinese take our other Belgian players! I am sure we can make Cleverly, Kone, McGeady and Gibson sound Belgian to the happy go lucky Chinese leagues!! James Stewart 3 Posted 10/01/2017 at 17:32:53 Lukaku may be a lot of things but he's not stupid or unambitious. Why on earth any player in his prime would move to China is beyond me. And before anyone says "Who wouldn't treble their salary if offered?" these guys are multi-millionaires already with more money than they can spend in one lifetime. Rob Dolby 4 Posted 10/01/2017 at 17:59:49 Any sign of the Chinese wanting a motivational Dutch manager. John Daley 5 Posted 10/01/2017 at 18:26:09 Seems Chinese defenders are already bricking it over this story and are busy getting plenty of practice in on the Lukaku simulator: Link Robin Cannon 6 Posted 10/01/2017 at 19:19:31 James (@3) Multi millionaires or not, who still wouldn't treble their salary if offered. It certainly warrants consideration. It's such a simplistic argument to say "Oh, they already have enough money". For what? What might they want to achieve? What is "enough money"? Steve Boardman 7 Posted 10/01/2017 at 19:42:52 Rob (#4). Brilliant! Paul Burns 9 Posted 10/01/2017 at 20:35:55 Pity.Lukaku represents everything wrong with Everton Football Club in this era – a preening, posing nonentity only interested in himself at the expense of the team.Him and his gobshite of an agent are being indulged by Kenwright at our expense.Get rid and start getting in players who would be proud to play for us and maybe put in a bit of effort occasionally.I'd drive him to the airport myself but his agent can fucking walk. Mike Gaynes 10 Posted 11/01/2017 at 00:40:08 Paul, "nonentity"? Really?Yeah, OK, I guess Rom's goal every two games is totally unimportant to the team's success. We've got lots of guys who can do that.Like... uh... ???Fact is, we have a boatload of players who are "proud to play for us" but who couldn't find a goal with a telescope.I'll take Rom all day, attitude and all. But then, I like goals. And winning. Nick Armitage 11 Posted 11/01/2017 at 03:54:17 Mike Gaynes (10) - fans like you have clearly forgotten how little he runs. Give me Denis Stracqualursi any day, now there's a player with a great attitude who will run all day. In fact we could save 㿞m and put James McCarthy up top, he'll run all day too. Mike Gaynes 12 Posted 11/01/2017 at 05:50:35 You got that right, Nick. And you're forgetting about the hardest-working, toughest, most tireless warrior of them all... one who had shown tremendous goalscoring prowess in his youth.I'll always blame Moyes for playing Hibbo out of position. Heaven only knows how many goals we lost out on. Stephen Ashton 13 Posted 11/01/2017 at 09:28:31 Mike, Just thinking of all the trophies we've won with him as our striker.Like... uh...???? Don Alexander 14 Posted 11/01/2017 at 13:26:17 If you translate lu-ka-ku into Chinese it comes out as no-run-fa apparently. David Barks 15 Posted 11/01/2017 at 13:34:36 Stephen,I was unaware that Lukaku has been our striker for the last 22 years. What a lack of ambition on his part to stay at this club for 22 years without winning a single trophy. Ciarán McGlone 16 Posted 11/01/2017 at 13:39:56 Pity,We'd probably get about a squillion quid for him from the Chinese. We could call our stadium the Romelu arena and could have a giant statue of him waving his arms about outside... Andrew Ellams 17 Posted 11/01/2017 at 13:53:43 All of you Lukaku naysayers, who you going to replace him with? The only players in the Premier League that consistently outscore him are Costa and Aguero. Rob Halligan 18 Posted 11/01/2017 at 14:10:41 Andrew, don't you realise, people on here want somebody who runs around like a headless chicken, not a proven goalscorer like Lukaku! Jim Hardin 19 Posted 11/01/2017 at 16:38:19 Paul,Did you hear that we just loaned one of your type of players to Hull? Proud to be an Everton player, worked hard, didn't complain. So you really want a team full of Niasse types? Better check with Koeman first, as he didn't much care for the lad. Mike Benjamin 20 Posted 11/01/2017 at 16:58:25 So who on this forum thinks that Rom is the reason we have not won anything since he arrived? We should be organising the team around him, not getting rid. Darren Hind 21 Posted 11/01/2017 at 19:25:52 I wonder if we have got somebody designated to sift through all the offers we have received for him since the window opened? I mean, have you seen the guys stats? All lines of communication must be jammed solid... Len Hawkins 22 Posted 11/01/2017 at 20:01:57 What do these Chinese overtures sound like? I'm not a Classic FM listener. Dave Abrahams 23 Posted 11/01/2017 at 20:26:57 They are not bad, Len, 'Slow boat to China' is one of my favourites. I wish Lukaku would take one as long as we get 㿼M for him, and the money is all spent on new players. Tony Abrahams 24 Posted 11/01/2017 at 20:38:03 I honestly think the little tiddlies would wear him out? Lukaku, super goalscorer, but he needs a rest every-time he does a couple of sprints, and the heat might just get to him.㿼 Million, Dave? I've stopped listening to yer! John Grills 25 Posted 11/01/2017 at 23:09:34 Just shows how crazy some fans are, who think we should sell Lukaku. Never ceases to amaze me. Dave Abrahams 27 Posted 12/01/2017 at 09:21:50 John (#25), if you like Lukaku, fair enough, why not be content with that? It doesn't bother me that other Everton fans like Lukaku. He's just not my cup of tea. Mark Andersson 29 Posted 12/01/2017 at 12:20:12 He would do well in China against all those has-beens from all over the world. His lack of celebration after scoring a goal in the FA Cup tie tells you all you need to know about his attitude. He is the only Everton player in my 55 years of being a blue that I really dislike. Gary Radley 30 Posted 16/01/2017 at 12:11:04 Isn't it true that Keegan has told Lukaku to run even less as we need our forward in the right place and full of energy when a chance does present itself? I don't recall Gary Lineker running round like a headless chicken...
