Sandro flies in for Everton talks

Everton are back in the race to sign striker Sandro Ramirez from Malaga after he flew to Merseyside for talks this weekend.

A report at MailOnline that echoed an Internet rumour to the same effect on Saturday claiming that the Spaniard was holding talks over a £5.2m move to Goodison Park was lent credence by mobile phone footage shared on social media of what appeared to be Sandro at the Titanic Hotel.

That was followed by a tweet from the usually reliable Times journalist, Paul Joyce, who also reported that the 21-year-old had been in Liverpool over the weekend discussing a move and was expected to make his decision on Monday.

The news comes just days after it looked like Sandro was nailed on to stay with Malaga in the hopes of joining Atletico Madrid in January when the latter club has its transfer embargo lifted.

That ban on transfers appears to have been the reason why his proposed move to Madrid has fallen through, however, and the Mail's report would indicate that the Blues are back at the head of the queue for his services.

Sandro-old has a £5m release clause in the contract he signed last year when he joined Malaga from Barcelona.

Would be more encouraged if it came from a reputable source, but fingers crossed that it's true. There's also talk of Klaassen signing in the next 10 days and the Michael Keane link has resurfaced. We need to sign all 3 of them IMO.

I am sure we all hope that this latest round of rumors is true.

If Keane, Sandro, Klaasen. Batshuayi etc come off it will be a great kick start to the Moshiri revolution.

If true?? My cinical view is most of us will be underwhelmed by the start of the season..

Nothing has really changed... woppi doo – we finished 7th when 4th could have been achieved.. No wonder the lazy one wants out; even Diamond Boy is not happy.

Still, we dare to dream about turning the Red Shite over...

Fingers crossed Jay. Keane, Sandro and Klaassen would all be very welcome additions.

I'd be surprised if Batshuayi came though. If a team like Monaco want him, we have no chance. Even as an Evertonian, I'd be on the first plane out there!!!

Rick, if we are signing players who want to play Champions League football that's a good thing they either get us there or are sold for profit while we are trying to get there. When / if we challenge for trophies, then we will be one of the clubs they want to sign for and then stay at; we sign players not fans.

At £5.2 million just get him signed up!!

He could turn out to be a quality signing and, if it doesn't work out, you'll get at least £10 million off someone back in Spain!!

If true, he can't help but to be impressed with the set-up at Everton and Finch Farm, also Ronald and his background as a top player will snare him.

The added bonus that Malaga is only 2 hours away is not too under estimated if he has any family ties and associations there and wants a quick visit in the future.

Watched Malaga against Real Madrid recently and he stood out a mile. A real quality player who takes a great free kick; has pace, skill and a first touch that doesn't turn into a tackle.

Add Sigurdsson, Maguire or Keane, Pickford, and the young lads from the U23s and we're set to challenge the top six. Which, unless we can get players like Sanchez, Coutinho or Van Dijk, is the best we can do next season.

That doesn't mean I don't want us to challenge for everything – it just means I watched us against Arsenal in our last game and realise how much we need.

I'm imagining a side with Sandro, Keane, Klaassen, Batshuayi, Brahimi, Sessegnon, and Schmeichal. I think they're all feasible signings and we'd actually do better than the current side that is too dependent on whether Rom and Barkley turn up.

Is anyone else worried that the Red Shite will move for Keane now they've made a boo boo with the Van Dijk fiasco? It crossed my mind the other day and someone's posted the same story on NewsNow today. Let's hope knowing that he's our first choice will be make him pick us over them.

Not sure Keane would want to move to the bitter rivals of his boyhood club? He may be more amenable to moving to us as Man Utd have just signed Lindelof so aren't interested in a centre back anymore.

If true, the Sandro link could be part of a trend leading to young 'under the radar', value-for-money prospects which is in keeping with the mantra of Everton FC.

Assuming a couple of the youngsters make the breakthrough into the squad, we could be looking at a season of continued improvement with promise of more to come. New goalkeeper, plus Keane, Klaassen, Sigurdsson, Sandro, Traore (if not Batshuayi), plus the lad from QPR would be a good window indeed!

Apparently Steve Walsh was in there waiting for someone and he came in with a couple of guys.

The footage floating around certainly looks like Sandro, and supposedly Steve Walsh was there waiting to meet him.

I would love this one to happen, it would appear to represent fantastic value in today's market, and let's not forget – if it weren't for the transfer ban, he would now be joining a team who have been in two Champions League finals in the last four seasons.

James Watts

Alexander Murphy
43 Posted 12/06/2017 at 07:09:27
As others have said, this lad will see things very differently once he has seen what a club he is joining.

Some fans need to stop acting like Everton is some jumped up second rate plastic excuse for a football club because that is the biggest mistake and the least expensive to put right.

Look in the football columns at the daily tittle tattle and take note who gets linked with this and that player. It's predictable. Do they sign each and every possible target? Nope !

So try this strategy on for free. Everton get themselves linked with every hotshot who is highly fancied. We do it repeatedly. Our name keeps getting mentioned amongst the "chosen few". Over and over and over.

How much does this cost? Bugger all. Then, just like all the rest, who do we actually sign? We sign who we actually want. But in the process we alter the mindset, in fact we might snare one or two players that raise the eyebrows.

It's called "The Power of Positive Thinking", and we'd better get our heads around it again! Just because we abandoned it in the late eighties and became the experts at avoiding it like the plague in the previous decade doesn't mean that it doesn't exist and has no influence.

If we show no belief in us, then don't expect some big brand "Johnny Foreigner" to turn us around by signing for a club that has an apologist attitude. Time to stop tackling like Geoff Nulty and start thinking like Big Nev!

Paul A Smith
45 Posted 12/06/2017 at 08:12:17
This lad looks like he can cut it in the Premier League with his physical side so lets hope this is true. I just hope we get some quality in before we lose anyone and show the clubs and fans around us we mean business.

I am not too fussed on signing Batshuayi from Chelsea as some rumours say. He is far from the potential Lukaku was and I don't want to see us raise another player for a Champions League side. Signing him will show all Lukaku's critics just how good Lukaku was for us but its all rumours at this point.

James Morgan

The Andre Gray and Davy Klaassen rumours are picking up as well. If we got Sandro, Gray and let's say a bigger name striker all in place for Lukaku, I would be quite happy with that.

Looks like Klaassen will be instead of Sigurdsson, maybe he represents better value. Let's see.

Andre Gray is a complete idiot; no thanks. Klaassen is nothing like Sigurdsson unfortunately; no way would I be spending anything like £20m plus on him.

Sandro would be a no-brainer, just what we need, pace and power. I would trust Walsh a lot more than I would Koeman in the transfer market.

Spot on, Alexander!

The Recruitment team can only do their best with what they control. If a Champions League side come in we will lose.

If we offer a club the right process and the play and agent the right fees – we have no control when Arsenal or even stoke or West ham come in and ask the agent what it would take and they offer 30% more fees above the worth of the player.

However, we can have a positive attitude and then we will attract more than if we are negative.

Don't watch Davy Klaassen's top ten goals if your on YouTube. They must be the most uninspiring 10 goals I have ever seen apart from one header and goal 1.

If you are getting wet at the thought of signing Klaassen and your not a Barkley fan you need help. Barkley would score for fun in that dutch league. In fact, watch the goal where Klaassen goes around the keeper and try to tell me Barkley wouldn't be a sensation in Holland.

I have nothing against Klaassen by the way. I hope he signs and becomes a major player for us but if I see one more flog Barkley and get Klaassen shout, from fans who know nothing about Klaassen, I think i'll buy a gun.

I can't believe how many grown ups play reality Championship Manager every summer.

Sandro should be signed up quickly. He seems to be a very talented player. And at just over £5m he could be the bargain of the summer transfer window.

Paul (#60) well said. Barkley is head and shoulders better than Klaassen. Now don't get me wrong, he is a good player, but he plays in a very weak league. I would rather have Sigurdsson, and I'm not thrilled about him signing.

In saying that we might have cooled interest in him. Leicester are supposedly offering £30m for him.

I see Klaassen more as a replacement for Cleverley rather than instead of Sigurdsson; there's also the question mark over McCarthy's fitness etc. The Klaassen interest seems similar to when Koeman took Clasie to Southampton.

I'm excited about Sandro and at £5M, he is far less a risk than the £30m we were quoted for Slimani last summer.

John Raftery

It is unfair to judge a player on one performance but I saw nothing from Klaassen in the Europa League Final to suggest he has the quality or physique to cut the mustard in the Premier League.
Steve Ferns
70 Posted 12/06/2017 at 13:42:45
Fingers crossed for Sandro. How could we not sign him for £5m, even if he gets top dollar in wages?

As for Davy Klaassen, I'll trust Koeman's judgement, but he's not really impressed me. The big Dane upfront, Kasper Dolberg, looks a better signing, and can bring the physicality that Sandro lacks.

Ciaran O'Brien
71 Posted 12/06/2017 at 13:43:45
Sandro could be one of the signings of the season if we pull it off and the if Spurs don't gazump us. He got 16 La Liga goals in a mediocre team last season which is good and looks as if he has the physique to handle the premier league. He also can play across the frontline which is also very helpful with Europe next season.

As for Klaassen, I don't know much other than the fact he is the first Ajax man to captain them in a major European final for years. He doesn't look like a playmaker but an attacking midfielder who makes runs into the box to get on the end of moves. He could be the new Cahill who didn't score many screamers but was often in the right place and the right time.

Hopefully we get these two in and add a real playmaker, two centre-halves, goalie and a winger who can play on both sides and can chip in and a new dynamic left-back.

Mark (#3),

"We finished 7th when 4th could have been achieved... "

Yeah, right. Can't wait to have you tell us where we could have picked up 16 more points and flown past three teams who were better than we were. News bulletin: We finished behind those three red teams because we didn't have enough talent to finish ahead of them. 4th was never a possibility. Period.

Jim Knightley
80 Posted 12/06/2017 at 16:33:20
Sandro has a low release clause - going for him does not constitute a continuation of the Bill era in my opinion. Should we ignore him, just because he is cheap, despite him being probably the best scoring under 21 in the big leagues who we could realistically get? He could be a very rare thing in the modern game: a player worth a lot more than his price tag.

And the rumoured Klaasen and Sigurdsson interest, or Michael Keane, certainly do not meet Beattie money requirements. Nor, for that matter, do the 25mil deals made for Bolasie and Schneiderlin in the past year. We comfortably surpassed the highest gross spend in our history during the past year, despite the hiring of a new manager, director of football, and the transition of a new owner. I'm confident that we will do the same again over the next 12 months. There are far more reasons to believe in Moshiri than to decry him, and I haven't seen an argument on here that has made me think otherwise.

Let's hope the business over the summer convinces all of us.

I for one am excited about the prospect of Sandro. Its about time we got someone with a little bit of a nasty streak in them, that is willing to fight for the team. We've become a little too nice over the last couple of seasons. Klaassen looks like he has a bit of fight in him as well and reminds me of a more skillful Cahill with his runs into the box.

Bring it on I say! :)

Jim Harrison

Mike Gaynes,

To add to your point regarding Mark (#3), I believe that this season Arsenal secured the the highest points total in Premier League history for a team that did not finish at least 4th. They had 3 more points than Bobby's team did when we finish 5th. The idea that we somehow fluffed a chance to make 4th is misguided, or overly simplistic.

I have read on this site that Arsenal are a shambles, Man Utd are no great shakes, and Liverpool are shit. Yet last season 75 points would have been comfortably 2nd place, 3rd the year before.

Regards Sandro, all I have to go on is YouTube. But at €6 million or so, he could be steal.

Colin (#62)

He was later seen in Hope Street, talking to Jeremy Corbyn. He was holding the Jammie Dodgers.

Why are some people judging this fella by the size of his price tag?!?! Surely the cheaper he is, the better the business we have done? If he turns out to be mustard (and only time will tell as many highly regarded and highly priced players have flopped) then isn't he the bargain we all dream of?

Trust those whose job it is to bring in the talent! If you think you're better qualified then get your CV in and get it sorted. Or maybe... show some faith.

Sandro for £6m, he can't be any worse than Kone, who cost the same. Klaassen for me is not worth the money; against Man Utd, he hardly touched the ball, and is not as good as Barkley. Tadic who played for Koeman in the Premier League, is available for half the price.

Tadic has a £13 million release clause, Christy Ring, which is double.

We can't say No to Klaassen because of one bad game. I remember Coleman against Benfica and I never wanted him to play for Everton again. Now, he is one of my all-time Everton players.
Tom Bowers
104 Posted 12/06/2017 at 22:24:39
These players and their agents have their fingers in many pies, playing one interested buyer off against the other. Everton should make one offer as they see fit and, if the player baulks a little, then tell him to get lost and move onto the next on the list.

Has Sandro ever played with Deulofeu at Barcelona?

Del Boy could be a factor in Sandro coming to Everton if they did play together at Barcelona.

If people want an inconsistent winger, then shall we just keep Deulofeu rather than blow £13m on Tadic? Deary me.

Don't rate Tadic, myself. With all that's being talked about, I wouldn't be surprised if there are 'surprises' being negotiated – Walsh style. Wouldn't this be nice????

Please make this happen, Everton. Don't dilly dally and start haggling about a few thousand here and there, either on purchase price or on contract terms. This lad is HOT. I've watched him many times in La Liga in the season just ended and he is the real deal.

For once, let's see some decisive action and real determination to push this deal over the line and have it all in place ready for him to sign on the dotted line on the day the window opens. That would put down a marker and show we really do mean business this summer.

Gueye played all season for Villa and no-one even mentioned him. We signed him and people on here were kicking off at the lack of ambition from the club. As it happens, it was one of Walsh's first gems unearthed. So trust him and Koeman regarding Sandro.

Same goes for Klaassen. He is a goalscorer and club captain. Most of the Ajax team had a bad night against Man Utd. You can't judge a player on one game and Koeman has been watching his progress for 3 years. He knows where the goal is, which is more than can be said for Barkley.

Jim Harrison
112 Posted 13/06/2017 at 02:15:18
Christy (#97), Barkley also hasn't signed a contract so no matter how highly you, me or anyone else rates him he will probably need replacing. If he stays, then and the Klaassen move comes off we will have reinforced our midfield
Nigel Munford

Wish people would stop judging a player on one game. Rom and Ross have had some stinkers themselves this season and we're valuing them at a combined £150 million'ish. Let's have some trust in the staff employed to make these decisions.

Barkley rejecting our last offer is in some of the rag tops. True? Who knows but I'm guessing it is just from the fact that he hasn't signed and we're reported to be close to Klaassen and Sigurdsson. Again, whether those reports are true as well is a guessing game right now. Got to love this time of year!

For those unsure about when the transfer window opens – it's 1st July. Hopefully we will have our ducks in line in terms of incoming transfers in readiness for the squad reconvening on 2nd July for the pre-season schedule.

Here's a suggestion from left field. What about Costa on loan for a season, even half a season, til he goes to Atletico?

He'd certainly be up for it every game.

Too much negativity. We needed a new keeper and now we've got one and a young 'un.

Why all the comparisons to the past. Let's move forward and bag this Spaniard or is he too Spanish ? Is he too short for some? Never happy some of you.

It seems to have gone quiet on the Sandro front doesn't it, and with Walsh having travelled to Italy I wonder whether it's all done and dusted with Sandro, or just "all over?"

I'd have thought if we'd been successful we'd have announced something, and you'd thing he'd have made his mind up one way or the other with the player himself allegedly wanting things settled before the end of the week.

Fingers still crossed!

James Morgan

Brian, I imagine we will still get Sandro. Nothing to base it on just a hunch.
Walsh, according to Sky, is discussing three players from Inter and three from AC. Banega amongst them funnily enough!

A possible front three of Bacca, Sandro and Niang next season though, that could get me salivating!

Andrew Clare

We really don't want anyone from Milan. They are a poor team lacking any outstanding players.

As for Banega, he is past it now.

In some ways, it's good to see Everton do business with no media getting a sniff, but it's a nervous wait and surely we should be getting some sort of update soon. Jim White... get on the blower son!

As for the Italy trip, this has loan deals written all over it. Good business sense too as we use them for a VERY busy year without the ongoing financial issues if they fail and it also frees up cash for permanent signings. It's a win-win.

If we don't hear anything by the end of today, then it would be a concern. If reports are to be believed, our terms to the player were already offered and agreed.

We don't need to haggle over price because of the release clause, and Sandro himself seems keen to get his future sorted out before The European U21s begin tomorrow. So, you'd expect to hear something positive today?

With such a small release clause the concern is always going to be that some other club has swooped in and confused the issue. Of course it could always be something like image rights or shirt number that's holding up the deal. Not to mention his impression of Liverpool when he visited (not a slight on the City, it just may not have felt right for him).

A quick Google search indicates no news whatsoever regarding Sandro for a couple of days. Good or bad thing?

Tony Hill
136 Posted 15/06/2017 at 06:45:13
Yes, Chris, I have doubts about this one. The feeling is that he's not truly interested in us. Hope I'm wrong but I also hope he doesn't land here because he can't find anything else.

Kind of feels the same to me until it isn't, until then it will be same.

There seems to be a lot of confusion and debate as to when the transfer window opens.

Am I right in thinking that, although deals can be done from the 9th June, contracts and fees cannot be registered until 1st July?

John Smith
141 Posted 15/06/2017 at 22:41:12
I still can't believe we've signed two players already, 2 weeks before the window even opens! And for about £50 million.

Considering Davey Moyes only had around £6 million to spend each year, this really shows that Moshiri is the real deal.

Jay Harris
142 Posted 16/06/2017 at 15:49:25
I believe he asked for this weekend to consider the move but I guess his heart is really set on Atletico. Do we really need another striker whose heart is somewhere else?

I say go for Andre Gray and Niang with a cheeky bid for Aguero.

Realistically we should demand two or three players from Chelsea as part of the Lukaku deal. Batshuayi, Traore and/or Tammy Abrahams would be a nice coup. I would even offer to drive the egotistical maniac there myself.

Ernie Baywood
143 Posted 16/06/2017 at 23:00:10
Are Gray and Niang massive Evertonians or something? Almost every player we could sign would have their heart somewhere else.

And part-exchanges almost never happen.

Gerry Quinn
144 Posted 16/06/2017 at 23:12:55
Niang deal is off, apparently – he is considered too inconsistent!

WTF about McGeady, Deulofeu, Mirallas et al – they are no different but we bought them!!! :)

Chris Gould

I am going to be gutted if we don't get Sandro. I think he'd be the signing of the summer. He's got a bit of Costa and Suarez in him. Fast, powerful, skillful, direct, great at free kicks. I think he'd be a huge fans favourite, but he's obviously not convinced that he wants to come to us.

I think it's easy to underestimate what a massive decision it is to leave your home country and move to another. It's very easy to take for granted with footballers, but it's a big ask.

We will need to be offering a huge contract to prise him away from home comforts.
