Season › 2021-22 › General Forum Important Update to TW Golf Day By Derek Knox 18/06/2022 Share: I have had to re-schedule the proposed Golf Day from Friday 8 July, mainly because of the limited numbers. Sadly, there were only 6 or 7 definite numbers/names put forward, and frankly, it is just not worth going ahead with it, for so few. I can understand that, no matter what day is proposed, it will always conflict with someone's plans or arrangements; that's life, I suppose. Also this season has been one of the worst as far as Everton Football Club was concerned, with attention/distraction being drawn more as to whether we would still be in the Premier League come the end of the season. Thankfully, we are safe now so worries have been allayed as far as Everton is concerned. I have spoken with the Professional at Hawarden Golf Club and re-arranged a new date, being Friday 16 September. Everything is pretty much as before: arrive around 09:00 to 09:30 for Bacon Butties and Coffee, Introduction to everyone and the Tee Times and Order of Play announced to start off at 10:30 am. Please, please give me an early indication if you intend to participate. This is an enjoyable day of Golf with a bit of a Competition and Nearest the Pins (par 3s) and Longest Drives (Seniors and Juniors) thrown in. Hawarden is a lovely and quite challenging course and has excellent catering facilities as well as a friendly atmosphere. Should there be any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Derek Knox, (07565 140075) or del_kath@yahoo.co.uk. Also please let me know of any intentions to attend, and a rough idea of your Handicap. If you don't have an Official Handicap, an honest assessment of your ability would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Reader Comments (8) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Comments are the responsibility of the poster. Disclaimer David Pearl 1 Posted 18/06/2022 at 21:45:34 Good choice, Derek, before the West Ham home game so hopefully a better turnout. I will put it out there on other channels. Let's hope for a good turnout for a good cause. Ray Roche 2 Posted 18/06/2022 at 21:56:07 Thanks, Del, like I said before, I will join you at Hawarden. I just hope that there's a better response from the golfing Toffee Webbers. ðŸ‘ðŸ»Come on, lads, support this day out! Derek Knox 3 Posted 18/06/2022 at 22:01:55 Thanks David, and Ray, it was one of the few dates I could get on a Friday. As you well know, Sky dictate the days most Clubs play for TV purposes, so our game could still be on a Sunday. obviously hoping for better numbers this time. Some of Ted Draper's Family have expressed an interest in the day with some members wanting to play also, but despite emails sent, I still don't know how many there will be, which would help.Just hope the weather is favourable for us. Peter Moore 4 Posted 18/06/2022 at 23:23:07 Please put my name down in pen, Derek! I have visited before all the way from Stourport on Severn in Worcestershire. The course is since 1911 if memory serves and it is beautiful. It was worth the long round trip for sure.I remember the food and beer in the clubhouse was tremendous too and good value by golf club pricing standards.Really looking forward to it, big thanks for organising this. Superb. Sadly I am a genuine 28 handicap so please don't expect my golf to do justice to the standard of the course. Peter Moore 5 Posted 19/06/2022 at 23:30:55 Hi Derek, I am just watching the US Open on tele and it got me thinking of the TW Golf Day on 16/9/22. Can you please advise the cost info and how to pay so I can get you squared up. You can email me at sg.peter@gmail.com Cheers, Pete Jon Harding 6 Posted 20/06/2022 at 14:28:58 Hi Derek - you know that after playing last year I was disappointed not to be able to make the July date so I am pleased to say "count me in" for September. Not sure about young Dan this year. I'll check after he's back from Canada in a few weeks.I can't guarantee any US Open style golf but WHS currently 8.2.See you again in September. Derek Knox 7 Posted 21/06/2022 at 07:35:12 Thanks Jon, be great to see you again, and Dan of course if he can make it. You will enjoy Hawarden, a bit different from Aldersey Green, but a lot less water to contend with. Stephen Vincent 8 Posted 26/06/2022 at 15:26:03 Thanks Derek, you know you can count me in. Hopefully the knee and the back will have fully healed by then, but either way I will be there if only to score, eat bacon butties and chase stragglers.
