Luke Butterfield and Matty Apter were back from injuries and on the bench, with Paul Tait able to field a strong side. There were no goals in the first half, with the opening goal came on 55 minutes when Martin Sherif chased a long forward ball and just managed to prod it past the keeper. For the second goal 10 minutes later, Francis Gomez scooped a clever chip over the Widnes defence and substitute George Morgan kept his composure to finish. Widnes scored with an excellent strike in the 76th minute but the Blues held on and will play either Southport or Warrington Rylands in the last four of the competition, with that result decided on 25 March. Everton U21s: Barnsley, Samuels-Smith, Van Schoor, Davis, Welch, Thomas, Barker, Gomez, Sherif (Morgan), J Patterson, Heath. Subs: Gospel-Eze, Butterfield, Apter, Benjamin, Graham, Finney.
