Thierno Barry went through a rough patch recently after the French striker received some boos in Everton’s 3-0 win over Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium before the international break.

The negative reaction stemmed as a reaction to his controversial post in the aftermath of the loss to Arsenal which blew up on social media. Barry claimed that his friends were heckled and harassed and had to be escorted from the Everton end due to safety concerns.

While it was initially speculated that his friends were Arsenal fans celebrating Max Dowman’s late goal in the away end, Barry has since stated that his friends were supporting Everton.

Barry has endured his fair share of struggles on the pitch as well and has seemingly fallen behind Beto in the pecking order. He has scored six goals so far for the Blues but only once in his last eight Premier League appearances.

Michael Keane, however, insists that Barry is working hard and reiterated the dressing room’s support for the player. “He's always trained well, he always trains hard and obviously the reception he got at the stadium wasn't ideal. These things happen, but I think it's important now for us all to stick together,” Keane told Liverpool Echo.

“I think he's a great lad, he works hard, he's scored some important goals so far and we're going to need him for these last seven games. So hopefully we can all stick together and get behind him and get him back to scoring goals again.”

What is he supposed to say?

"He's crap, the sooner he's gone the better" or "Who in God's name scouted him?"

It's his team mate. That's what successful sides do.

You hurt one, you fight eleven. We're just starting to get that mentality.

Alright, he is too embarrassed to back out with a statement, probably shared his regret with others. Now, Keane is stepping up

Let's forget about it and maybe he can help us get into Europe. Good job, Michael.

Well in, Mr Keane.

Barry definitely has some maturing to do, but if one of the senior statesmen in the club who sees him everyday in training is willing to publicly stand behind him, let's hope the fans will too.

Well put, Mike, I concur.

Let's hope the lad proves many of us wrong and becomes a top striker.

All very honourable but he doesn't deserve his contract.

I hope he is sold. A woeful footballer. Watching him is purgatory.

Let us not forget that Barry has scored 6 goals in for us from 31 appearances. Not too shabby for a striker in his first season in the Premier League.

In comparison, Hugo Ekitike has 11, Calvert-Lewin 10, Bryan Mbueno, Benjamin Sesko, Cole Palmer, Richarlison, Gibbs-White have 9 each, Nick Woiltemade has scored 7 goals for Newcastle and cost more than double what we paid for Barry; Anthony Gordon, Saka, Eze, each have 6 goals.

Beto, Dewsbury-Hall and Ndiaye have also scored 6 goals each for us this season.

Comparing to previous seasons, our top 4 goal-scorers:

2024-25: Ndiaye (9), Beto (8), McNeil (4) Calvert-Lewin, Doucoure, Keane (3 each)

2023-24: Calvert-Lewin (7), Doucoure (7), Gueye (4), Beto, Branthwaite, McNeil, Harrison (3 each)

2022-23: McNeil (7), Doucoure (5), Gray (4), Gordon (3)

I hope one of our players can get into double figures this season. Good of Keane to come out in support of Barry.

Barry's still young too, no? Adjusting the Premier League is known to be a tough ask for any player.

As long as he continues to put himself in good positions to score, that's all we can ask.

It would have been helpful to Barry if the club had given official backing to his account of his friends' behaviour.

Did the club ever issue a statement about it?

Without that back-up, he could easily be regarded by many fans as simply passing through and his productivity on the pitch has not been enough to moderate their dissatisfaction.

Something needs to change drastically for the player to rescue the situation.

“He has scored six goals so far for the Blues but his last goal arrived in the draw with Leeds United at home in late January.”

Didn't he score the winner at Newcastle?

Mark @10,

Branthwaite... Beto... and Barry -- in off his arse.

I know Keanne can be a bit of an arse, but no, he was not the arse that scored against the Skunk Maggots.

Errr?

Anjishnu said Barry’s last goal was v Leeds.

Barry scored (off his arse) at Newcastle since Leeds.

Not Michael Keane.

That’s better…

You see Michael?

Doh! Speed reading is doing me no favours here...

Did the club ever issue a statement about it?

They said something at the time, Si... police investigation, blah, blah...

Come back after 2 years to see any charges dropped for 'insufficient evidence'.
