Clare Wheeler has signed a new two-year deal with Everton Women which is set to keep her at the club until the end of June 2027.

The Australian midfielder has been with the club since August 2022 and has been a key part of Brian Sorensen’s side. She has captained the Toffees in the last two matches, including the impressive 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

“I feel really excited,” she told evertontv. "It is great to have that trust from the manager to want me to stay and believe in me and this project that we have going on here. I really like this club. I feel really at home here and I'm glad that I get to call it home for a bit longer.

Asked about her experience with the club so far, Wheeler added, “Growing up, you see it on the television screens, but now actually being over here and seeing what football means to the people at Everton – I compare it to religion. It means a lot.

“I feel extremely grateful to be part of that. I know when I wear the badge I try my best. That is something that the fans have told me that they respect. They just want you to give it your all and that is what I try to do.”

The 27-year-old has a great working relationship with head coach Sorensen. The duo have worked together previously at Fortuna Hjørring, where the pair helped the Danish outfit secure Champions League qualification.

Wheeler’s contract extension takes place just a week after Sorensen and his assistant manager Stephen Neligan also signed new deals.

“I have been really fortunate to have them now for a few seasons and I think for me, obviously being so far from home, it really matters to have a Club that makes you feel like family and then not only that, but have coaches that really believe in you,” added Wheeler.

“It matters a lot as a player and for me, I know that's the environment I want to be in.”

Everton are eighth in the Women’s Super League table and are scheduled to face Liverpool on May 4.
