Everton's pre-season continued on Sunday in Thailand with a friendly against Leicester City which the newly-promoted side won by a single goal. Gary Taylor-Fletcher scored the winner in the second half after Kasper Schmeichel had kept out efforts by Luke Garbutt and Aiden McGeady in the first half.

Former Everton second-string striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has sealed a return to the top flight after signing for newly-promoted Burnley from Middlesbrough.

The Southampton-born player made one senior appearance under David Moyes before being farmed out on loan to Plymouth Argyle, Middlesbrough and Motherwell and then released.

He then played two seasons with Coventry City, scoring 18 times in 67 appearances before moving on to Boro where made made another 64 appearances with 11 goals. His time in the northeast also included a loan spell at Bolton last season.

Howard heroic in US defeat

Tim Howard came up with a superhuman goalkeeping performance for the USA, making the most saves in recorded World Cup history, but he couldn't prevent his team-mate from last season, Romelu Lukaku, from sending Belgium through in a dramatic match in Salvador. Howard made crucial saves to send a goalless match into extra time but he was powerless when Kevin de Bruyne slotted home to make it 1-0 and substitute Lukaku lashed home a second. Julian Green gave the Americans hope in the 107th minute when he volleyed home but Belgium held out.

McAleny signs new three-year contract

Striking prospect Conor McAleny has committed to Everton until 2017 by signing a new deal with the club. The 21-year-old's existing deal was up this summer and he was reportedly being eyed by Brentford and Wigan Athletic.
