Everton in talks over Guirassy from Stade Rennais
Everton are stepping up their hunt for a striker to cover Dominic Calvert-Lewin's absence through injury, with reports suggesting they have opened talks regarding taking Guinean international forward Serhou Guirassy on loan.
According to Le Parisien, the Blues have approached Stade Rennais regarding the 26-year-old who has scored 25 times in 81 games in all competitions since joining the Ligue 1 side from Amiens two years ago.
Born in Arles in France, he began his career at Laval before joining Lille and then moved on to Amiens following loan spells with Auxerre and Cologne in Germany.
Eligible to play for the French national side by birth, he represented them at U16, U19 and U20 levels before opting to represent Guinea at senior level this year.

According to reporters Benjamin Quarez and Fabrice Hawkins, the latter from RTL, negotiations are "progressing well" between the two clubs and that Guirassy could secure his move to Goodison now that Rennes have landed Arnaud Kalimuendo from PSG.
However, having shelled out €24m on Kalimuendo, Rennes would prefer a permanent sale.
Another African forward plying his trade in Ligue 1 being linked with Everton is Lorient's Terem Moffi who has attracted attention with a record of 22 goals in 56 games over the past couple of seasons.Â

Loan with an option to buy rumoured, but there's a lot of those about just now. Tomorrow it will be someone different. But a loan deal could be preferable to Frank and Thelwell. I still think they are plotting to get one of the Chelsea players in late in the window if they are given any opportunity.

All of these players seem like makeweights to me because were hanging in on the hope that Broja comes and/or Calvert-Lewin won't get injured again this season.
I don't know what budget is left but we should be looking to replace Richarlison as well as Calvert-Lewin IMO but that would just make it the best window and that's not the Everton way.

But they will be playing second fiddle to Calvert-Lewin when he is fit.
They may only get about 10 starts including cups and score about 5 to 8 goals across the whole season including as sub.
I expect they're hoping Calvert-Lewin will be fit enough to contribute about 15 goals. The rest will come from Alli, Gray, Gordon and McNeil.
That will be good enough to get us in the Top 10 – and maybe competing for Europe but only if we are very mean defensively.

Calvert-Lewin, even when fit, is not an all-round complete striker that's gonna get us 20 Premier League goals.

Here's a name to consider: Joshua Zirkzee. Age 21, currently at Bayern Munich. Just come back from a loan at Anderlecht. Last season, 32 games, 15 goals, & 8 assists.
Overall in his brief career, he's played 155 times, 69 goals and 40 assists. Let's be cheeky and ask. If you don't ask, you don't get. His contract is up next summer.

Ironically, Stuttgart want him as a replacement for the likely outgoing Sasa Kalajdzic, who we've been linked with.

Maybe one will actually arrive.

I think he is off to Sassuolo.

Me, love the idea of saying "Okay, Pep, can't match up keeping the ball on the deck, so let's go aerial route, that way we don't chase shadows, get a chance to get physical. Set pieces, corners, Pickford.
Hey, if we can't match the top few passing pretty, pressing why not. Have it in our armoury, Calvert-Lewin this Ludviv together, flanks.
Not saying play that way all the time. Pep got done by Carlo, Benzema 9. So he's bought Haaland as an option.
Fingers crossed, go get the lad from the Blades too. Three forwards, Iwob i sgoing to need to be deployed in a different way now, love him now 90mins running.
Let's see, be unpredictable, hey.

Looks like he could lead the line well.

Curious to see who we get. I wonder if we're still waiting on Broja?
26 Posted 12/08/2022 at 10:13:38
That's how we roll.

With Gana or Camara and then Broja or alternative goalscorer we can start to dream a little bit of a team that could gel and be a force. Frank is focused, dedicated and invested in the club, the project here and the signs are good. Fans manager, DoF, and players pulling in the same direction will make a big, big difference. He desperately needs that quality goalscorer though, Calvert-Lewin out has him under pressure.
Will be interesting to see how Cornet and Dennis get on this season as they were on our radar. Hopefully now they flop.

I'd be delighted if we got Camara and Broja though you'd imagine those two would cost 㿞m+. Probably more likely at this stage that we get Gueye and Ajorque or Guirassy.
Trouble is we could be 3, 4 or 5 games down by the time these forwards come in, by which time we may be 5-10 points worse off than we would be with settled strikers.

Joking aside, at least with Rondon tomorrow, we'll have a focal point in attack. Albeit a blunt one.
