And Amazon want you to Pay-Per-View — even though you're no doubt paying a monthly subscription already.

No thank you.

It’s live on ITV.

But you already know that! 😂😂😂

Watching the 3rd place match. Not a bad game.

2 thoughts

1. Woltemade who we've been linked with looks extremely ponderous, is often offside, and misses chances;

2. Mbappe believes his own hype and may be the most overrated one-trick pony of all time.

Mbappe had just scored a great goal now I've made that observation 🤣

Woltemade taken off at half-time for stinking out the gaff!
Robert Tressell
6 Posted 08/06/2025 at 15:19:13
I don't think Woltemade is a good fit for us at all.

Doubt there's anything much in the links to him.

Any of this lot linked with us?

How's about that No 7 for Portugal? He fits our preferred age bracket.

What's Cucarella done to upset everyone already?

Good finish by Mendes for an equaliser.

Spain's goal, enough with the, "I can't use my weaker foot, no matter what" already!

Two defenders, both could have cleared with the other foot and didn't. World class? I don't think so.

And don't give me the old crap of, well such-and-such a player is only one-footed and he's world class. I ain't 'avin' it! 😬

18 Posted 08/06/2025 at 20:44:39
Sometimes I think of all the money clubs are spending on their academy systems and think to myself that they need to rethink how they teach our younger players how to play, both Pauls!

We need better coaching, but I suppose with the Premier League littered with a lot of one-footed foreign footballers, it might just be the same everywhere?

The older I get, the more I realise that one of the greatest skills a player can possess is movement. I'm not sure this is coached enough in this country?

Neil Copeland

Nice 1-2

Lovely goal.
Paul Hewitt
21 Posted 08/06/2025 at 20:46:34
Why do they check every goal? It's ridiculous!
Liam Mogan
22 Posted 08/06/2025 at 20:49:29
When you watch players with ability like this, the thing that will never cease to amaze me is how comfortable they are with the ball in tight situations and with opposition close by.

This allows teammates to move into space knowing the person with the ball will, more often than not, find them.

Rob Halligan
23 Posted 08/06/2025 at 20:50:00
Because every goal has been so close to being offside, that’s why there’s a check.
Paul Hewitt
24 Posted 08/06/2025 at 20:56:26
If the flag doesn't go up then it shouldn't be checked.

What's the point of linesmen?

Danny O'Neill
25 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:02:57
Being comfortable on the ball, Liam, even in tight spaces. It requires supporting play so the player on the ball has, sometimes, the simplest of options.

Tony, movement, finding and making space. All linked.

Just teach the young players to firstly enjoy the game and don't overcomplicate it. Just step in, advise and correct when you need.

Stand back and let them play.

Liam Mogan
26 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:07:16
I always found most young players I coached just wanted to dribble with their heads down, Danny.

It was the ones who played with their heads up who stood out.

Rob Halligan
27 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:09:17
Unlucky Bruno.. 😂😂😂😂
Liam Mogan
28 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:12:04
One thing that has really crept into the game is players not being 10 yards from a free-kick taker.

Not when they are outside the box with a wall, but in general play all over the pitch. Opposition players are standing within yards of the taker.

Brendan McLaughlin
30 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:16:33
Good point, Liam #26.

I could dribble with my head down from one end of the pitch to the other.

With my head up... I could only dribble out of my mouth.

Neil Copeland
31 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:19:56
I just make a mess of my shirt when I dribble.

Neil #31,

My shirt... not so much.

You're obviously a few years younger!

Liam Mogan
36 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:25:50
Being in my 50s, I just make a mess of me kecks when I dribble.
Neil Copeland

Brendan and Liam, I was trying to keep the comments clean…. kecks and floor really.

Ronaldo is older than Wayne Rooney.

Jeez Wayne, you been hanging round with Charlie Adam?

Paul Hewitt
39 Posted 08/06/2025 at 21:32:48
That was Ronaldo's 938th career goal. That's some record.
Neil Copeland

Who is the referee? Why can't we have his standard in the Premier League?
Liam Mogan
41 Posted 08/06/2025 at 22:34:53
Might as well just go to penalties rather than have extra time. It's pointless most of the time

Why is Rick Wakeman standing next to Bobby on the touch line?
Brendan McLaughlin

Don't really care but Barry "I love Martinez" Rathbone...

Don't tell me you didn't see it, mate?

Colin Glassar
44 Posted 08/06/2025 at 22:50:45
Love him or hate him, Ronaldo is a freak of nature.

I'm pleased he won it and chuffed for our Bobby Brown Shoes, who has now added this to his FA Cup win.

45 Posted 08/06/2025 at 22:53:42
Well what a thoroughly great and enjoyable game of football to watch between two very good teams. It kept me awake past my bedtime.

We watch football to be entertained. That was a match in which two teams went for it on the front foot all through. There was no sitting back.

46 Posted 08/06/2025 at 22:56:44
This has been a great competition.

Tuchel has a mountain to climb against some of these teams.

Off topic I know..

Just seen Uriah Rennie has passed..

Rated him as a ref, he was officiating at GP for

James Vaughn first game as I recall, came over to the player for a quiet word after a rash challenge, he'd only been on a few minutes and was really fired up, Uriah showed a good understanding of the game, and human emotion, rest in peace fella..

A game played with skill a-plenty — and that other ingredient … Pace.

Makes our game look like Sunday in the park football.

Ian Jones
52 Posted 08/06/2025 at 23:45:28
Andrew, just seen the news about Uriah Rennie. Very sad news. Decent ref if I remember right.
Mike Gaynes
53 Posted 09/06/2025 at 01:21:38
And a brave one, Ian. Can't even imagine the abuse he must have taken from the fans and players in his time as the first black referee -- and virtually the only one, since I believe only one other Premier League game has ever been officiated by a black ref.

Rennie never wrote a book, but there's a fictionalized biography of him called "Your Show" that is available on Amazon.

Ian Jones
54 Posted 09/06/2025 at 05:03:10
Mike, that's an astonishing stat. Doesn't say much for diversity.

I'll look up the show on Amazon. Thanks for the tip.

Whoever removed the appropriate capital B's from my post #53 is politely invited to go screw himself.

That’s the one Dennis. Great song from a great album.
Brian Williams
60 Posted 09/06/2025 at 10:54:08
I have to ask a genuine question.

Why should the b in black, when it's in the middle of a sentence, be capitalised?

I'd ask the same question, by the way, if the word in question was white.

Kevin Prytherch
61 Posted 09/06/2025 at 11:07:22
Sorry, Mike - the removal of capital letters is entirely appropriate… (unless they were in there for emphasis - but it hardly needs emphasis in your post)

Capital letters are primarily used at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns. Proper nouns are specific names of people, places, organisations, or things.

Capitalisation is also used for certain titles and in some cases for emphasis, but generally, overuse of capitals can make text harder to read

Kevin #58,

I'm genuinely interested in who you think are the 2 smartest people in the US?

I’ve got it on DVD,Kim.
I rewatch that bit over and over sometimes.
Very nostalgic.

Mike @57, epitomises the way life is sadly going, with what I can only describe as a very poignant statement.

Agree with me or politely go and screw yourself, is an attitude that is unfortunately becoming much more and more prevalent in modern-day life.
