RIP Tony Book. A gentleman. Only last night I happened to watch Man City at West Ham in 1970. 3-0 to City, Book was immaculate, Bell was sheer class.
Look out, new Saints manager: new chairman just announced that managerial reforms will be imminent.
Also, RIP Tony Slattery, one of the funniest but sadly one of most tragic figures of the last four decades.

Cole Palmer what a player this kid is.
He reminds me of what Pep said about Messi. For the first 5 or 10 minutes, he'll just walk around finding the space, reading the angles, knowing where to stand, where to run. Like a computer amassing the info then acting on it.

21:02:21
Watching Brighton, it's amazing me how many first time accurate passes they make. Everything is quick with as few touches as possible.
So that is what footballers are supposed to do? Not take 16 touches in between your feet before you get your head up, like the much-maligned Jack Harrison?
Posted
16/01/2025 at

And when Brighton players misplace passes (even difficult ones) the others are having a go at them, telling them to up their levels.
Ours pat each other on the back and say "Unlucky".

A fairly comfortable win for Brighton in the end. Overall they were the better team. Ipswich had some good long range shots in the first half, but you would expect any goalkeeper to save them. They had bugger all attempts in the second half though, and Brighton could have got more than two. Not looking good for Ipswich in their next two games either.

Oliver, that ball that was about two yards over the byline which would have given Man Utd a corner, was ridiculous. The linesman, albeit on the far side, was about ten yards behind play, but FFS, he and the referee should have seen it.

Paul - what the heck is Moyse's?????
OK guys here are the rules from someone who got Grade 6 GCE English back in the early 70s.
Pickford = Pickford's
Moyes = Moyes'
If it ends in an S, then it is just an apostrophe after the S. It is not Moye's. It is not Moyes's. It is Moyes'. Come on, we are Everton supporters. We are educated unlike the knuckle draggers over the park.

Soton played so well and one cannot believe they are bottom but then came the last 10 minutes and it was almost Everton v Bournemouth again,
Manure were just that. Why did they ever sign Martinez or Hojland?
Thank God all three below us lost so let's hope it's a lifeline they put to good use from now onwards.

Paul,
Adam lives in Poulton-Le-Fylde, which is about 11 miles from Lytham St. Annes where Moyes lives.
I seriously, and I mean seriously doubt that Charlie Adam will be joining David Moyes's backroom staff in any capacity.
He hasn't managed or coached any higher than the Championship. Not to mention his chronic success rate, or rather acute failure rate.

Hang on, wasn't Charlie good with in a dead-ball situation? Maybe he has joined Moyes, Mackinlay, Irvine and Baines as the set-piece specialist?
If that's the case we're doomed, considering how many goals that Fleetwood conceded from corners when he was manager there!

Simon, let's just hope that it is the usual 'report' bluster, though I imagine Moyes and Adam get together now and then.

Phil #73, at age 4 or so I decided that my house needed an identifying sign, so I wrote "The Gaynes's" on the front stoop in black crayon.
I heard it in both ears -- from my dad for the crayon scrawling on HIS house, and from my teacher mom for the punctuation error.

Simon, in this age of specialization, how about one set piece specialist for attack and one for defense?

PF, maybe however I doubt the very religious Moyes would seek out Adam for anything; though maybe the 'tother way round.
They're both Glaswegians I suppose? I just can't see Moyes' more 'moral' attitude coping with the more 'hedonistic' lifestyle of Adam.?
I'm just guessing there though?
MG, nb Good to hear you and yours are well, of the other thread! 👍😀
Well yes, maybe you can have an attacking SP Coach, and a defensive on.
From my perspective a set piece coach is someone who works out how best to defend corners and throw-ins from the opposition by data and statistical work, also analysing what the opposition usually do with free kicks in various parts of the field. (Which is the main issue with our decreased efficacy with our set pieces both in attack, and with our defending)
The other main job is obviously the reverse.
Therefore, while it would seem logical to have both an attacking and defensive set-piece coach. In reality, it would seem like a heck of a lot of duplication of effort? Though who knows?
I guessing SPCs, are only as good as their data/statistical analysis of the opposition whether that is done by themselves or the Sports Data Analysis team.
Shame we couldn't land Anthony Barry (now at Bayern) when Lampard came with his gang of six (or was it seven?)

Paul (65),
I tried getting it up with the Algebra link code you gave me but couldn't get it, but got the information of the game with a 3-1 win and goals from John Hurst and two from Joe Royle.
1967 — with a title won 4 years before, an FA Cup just won, another FA Cup final ahead of us, followed by another title — what a time to be a Bluenose watching fabulous footballers even when we didn't win anything.
After that feast came a bleedin' famine for 14 years… then Kendall and Harvey gave us another 4-year feast and since then bleedin starvation — except for Genial Joe's FA Cup win!

Dave,
Ive told this tale before, but it always tickles me and remains vividly in the memory.
On the tube back to my Aunties in Battersea after winning the FA Cup. Still only 12, I was fascinated by an Evertonian sat across from me, clearly leathered or punch drunk with joy. Maybe both.
He was asleep, but kept muttering to himself “14 years”. Every now and then, he would awaken and shout it out loud. At one point, he turned his attention to me. “Aye lad. 14 years. Were coming back”.
Back to his blue tinted sleep!!
Its the small memories that stick!!
Paul, Calvert-Lewin in your team this week. Something has to give and we surely cant have seen him score his last goal for Everton.
