Season › 2024-25 › General Forum ToffeeWeb meet-up in October By Brian Wilkinson 03/09/2025 26 Comments [Jump to last] Most will know from time to time we try and have a ToffeeWeb meet-up, we used to meet up at the Harlech some matchdays but, since moving stadiums, we are all still finding our bearings. John McFarlane Snr started the first meet up a good few years back. John's health is not as good as it was back then, so what we are trying to do is arrange a meet-up with John McFarlene Snr as guest appearance. We are looking at the next International break, on Saturday 11 October, as it's too short notice for this weekend. The invitation is open to any ToffeeWebbers or friends, so if anyone can make it that Saturday, we will be heading to the Bramley Moore pub, opposite the new stadium. We can arrange a time closer to the day. Those who can make it will make John's day. Please leave a message, anyone who can make it. Let’s do this for John and also to see each other again, it's been a while since our last meet-up. It was John's idea we try and have a meet-up so all credit goes to John. Disclaimer () Jack Convery 1 Posted 04/09/2025 at 10:47:42 I hope for John's sake there is a good turnout.I, along with others have noticed, there has been no posts from Danny O'Neill. If anyone has his number, can you give him a call and make sure all is well. Thanks. Mark Murphy 2 Posted 04/09/2025 at 12:04:31 I'd be up for this although as it's a round trip of 600 miles I'd prefer it to be a match weekend.Re Danny I posted on the other thread that I've checked in with him as he's been unusually quiet. He “says” he's been busy with work and I know he has a new puppy to dote on, but I get the feeling someone has pissed him off on TW. I'm sure I remember a snidey reply to one of his posts recently.Martin Mason is on that boat. He's avoiding TW now as he's been subject to personal shit because of different views to others. Nothing outrageous either!Danny gave me his ST for the Brighton game as he was away with work so I'm forever in his debt for what for me was my greatest day as an Evertonian. I was away in the '80s and '90s so that Brighton game was my Norwich, Bayern, Dogs of War.I hope he's okay. Brian Wilkinson 3 Posted 04/09/2025 at 13:29:01 I hope it is not the case of someone having a pop at Danny, he has been away so sure we will see Danny back on here soon.By all accounts Danny is fine from feedback I received in regards to the meet up.We picked Saturday 11th October with it being an International break and hopefully for people to get down. Not heard from George McKane so hopefully George you are well. Anyone who wants to go all are welcome looking at a time around 1 or 2pm.Dave Abrahams, hope you and Tony can make it. Michael Kenrick 4 Posted 04/09/2025 at 14:41:26 Martin and Danny... Hmmm… Maybe they're locked in to developing some mind-blowing conspiracy theory they will return with in triumph!I traced Martin's final outbursts to a 'clickbait' thread on Colin Gallagher that somehow went seriously sideways into Climate Change, with Martin kicking off as a fully paid-up Trumpian Climate Change denier. Among a host of claims, he said he would happily debate it sensibly via his private email address. So I tried to take him up on that, as it is a subject I am interested in, and I like to see if there is any real science behind the denials. I sent what was for me a very polite email, asking about the scientific rationale for the alternative view of climate change he had hinted at. If I wanted to get a fundamental grasp of the underlying science, where could I get started? Could he send me a link? His reply: "I'm sorry but I cant bring you up to degree level physics with a link." Not exactly what I was asking, so I tried again."Come on, Martin. One link that would get me away from the 97% who maintain that MMCC is real and an increasing threat. Something that you as a Process Engineer can trust as a reliable source of correct information that counters the climate change rhetoric that governments, the UN and WEF are all pumping out."Nothing. Never heard from him since. And it appears now he has not posted on ToffeeWeb since that date. So I take the full blame. His departure must be my fault because I challenged his position. Eric Myles 5 Posted 04/09/2025 at 15:12:54 Michael, Martin will be back, remember he took a lot of stick over KEOIC and Desperation Kirkby and came back when things cooled down. Even changed his views on Chairman Bill.As for climate change, it's a natural phenomenon, Google James Croll who invented Milankovich Cycles. The original "Good Will Hunting"? George McKane 6 Posted 04/09/2025 at 15:59:24 I will try my very best to make it - I have put it in my Diary - be great to see you - Cosmic Grooves - I posted a day or so ago - have a look: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1HfAoZkkdY/?mibextid=wwXIfr - - - My good and dear friends - - please watch this film and respond as requested - - if you can - - also Like and Share - - please - - we require YOUR HELP - - this is genuine - - you can always contact me via 07972611052 - - you have been tremendous in your support in the past - - we need it NOW more than ever - - go here. - It's simple - https://localgiving.org/donation/yellowhouse/start - your donation will keep us going and help our work with excluded young people: Michael Kenrick 7 Posted 04/09/2025 at 16:02:08 Eric, Not sure if you're serious but the Croll-Milanković cycles cannot explain current man-made climate change because they operate on vastly different timescales. The earth should be in a slight cooling trend according to these cycles. The current warming is happening far too quickly to be attributed to these long-term natural changes. Dave Williams 8 Posted 04/09/2025 at 21:05:18 I'd love to go to the get together but a 550-mile round trip for some beers with no game is a pretty hard sell at home! Can someone let me know where the pub is that ToffeeWebbers meet pre-game? I assume the Harlech is no longer viable… Neil Copeland 9 Posted 04/09/2025 at 21:35:55 Dave, we met at the Bramley Moore pub opposite the ground for the Brighton and Mansfield games. It was very hectic though, so we may need to find another. Mark Murphy 10 Posted 04/09/2025 at 22:01:49 My plan for future games is a pint or three in Dr Duncan's before the walk to the ground. There are several pop ups on the way should I need further refreshment. I got to the Brighton game nearly 2 hours early and the Bramley Moore pub was too rammed for comfort. Derek Knox 11 Posted 05/09/2025 at 11:18:06 I should be good to attend, but with it being the Midland, parking becomes a problem for a few of us. Alternative is the train and park at the Station (Frodsham or Hooton). I will probably travel with Neil C, and possibly Peter Moore, although Peter is not 100% sure of work and family commitments in advance.Mark M and Dave W, fully understand the logistics about travelling up when no match on. Hope to see as many as possible on the 11th by hook or by crook ! 👍💙 Bill Griffiths 12 Posted 05/09/2025 at 11:29:59 Bramley Moore Derek, not The Midland. Dave Williams 13 Posted 05/09/2025 at 11:40:27 Neil- can you let me know where youll be for the Palace game? Derek Knox 14 Posted 05/09/2025 at 11:45:47 Thanks Bill G, that makes it better then, as Parking by Tai Pan allowed for Blue Badge Holders, whether with self, Neil and or Peter ! Peter Mills 15 Posted 05/09/2025 at 12:56:26 Brian, I hope to be able to join you for this get-together, although it may depend on timings.Meanwhile, best wishes all round. Danny O'Neill 16 Posted 06/09/2025 at 21:28:38 I feel it should correct a few assumptions. No offence evever taken by me on here. Never has been. We're all big enough to know we wont always agree and there's nothing wrong with bit of healthy debate. So to reiterate, I've not been offended by anyone. Big couple of matches coming up. If I don't catch some of you there, maybe at the Bramley Moore gathering. Derek Knox 17 Posted 06/09/2025 at 23:23:53 Good to hear from you Danny ! 👍💙 Mark Murphy 18 Posted 06/09/2025 at 23:41:07 I used to know a Danny ONeill.Any relation?😘 Dave Abrahams 19 Posted 07/09/2025 at 17:07:01 Like Peter @ (15) Im waiting on dates for birthdays and anniversaries but I hope to make it on the day. Derek Knox 20 Posted 07/09/2025 at 17:20:06 Dave A, be great to see yourself and Tony, along with all the other stalwarts, as always ! Mark Murphy 21 Posted 08/09/2025 at 12:47:10 I've just applied for a Palace ticket in the ballot.I'll either be driving 260 miles for that game or 260 miles to the gathering. But not both. The first is obviously a priority... Bill Watson 22 Posted 09/09/2025 at 09:32:00 Just a heads up to anyone going that the new stadium is now served by a daily half-hourly circular bus route, the Number 2.Route: Liverpool One bus station - HD Stadium - Sandhills Station - HD Stadium - Liverpool One.(On a match day, the route is stopped about 2 hours before the game.) Mike Gaynes 24 Posted 12/09/2025 at 00:44:19 John Mc Sr. in the Bramley Moore pub? One of my favorite people in one of my favorite places. Wish I could just jump on a plane. Brian, please give him my very best. Neil Copeland 25 Posted 14/09/2025 at 20:26:16 Dave #13, yes of course mate. I went to the Bramley Moore pub again before the Villa game but no one else there. It was busy again but plenty of staff and didn't wait long. Jamie Crowley 26 Posted 17/09/2025 at 14:40:04 I wish there were a way to remotely attend. I hope everyone has a great time. What ever happened to the golf? Probably too much to organize? I suppose for Scousers meeting at a pub is much, much easier. Enjoy that day and have fun.BTW, while I'm actually posting, which I do much less of these days, regarding difference of opinions regarding climate change or any other "thing"... Just get over it. My political views are decidedly "right", to the point I'd disagree with probably 80% of posters on this site. So what.God knows with recent happenings, it would be good in my opinion, to remember the person you're talking to / typing with is a human being. They're entitled to their opinion, no matter how misguided you might think that opinion is.Ask Mike Gaynes. He and I are so incredibly polar opposite on just about every "major" topic, it's laughable. But we've always gotten along, despite major disagreements on "larger" topics, swimmingly.Just state your point, listen to the counter-argument, respond, etc, and be respectful. And don't get offended. It's really not that difficult and God knows we need a hell of a lot more of that nowadays. If you get heated, smile.Cheers. Have a great time on 11 October! I like reading about these get-togethers. I think it's wonderful contributors from all sorts of places get together in person.
