Pray for Everton. This is not a criticism of Moyes, btw. Christy Ring 2 Posted 17/01/2025 at 14:56:59 Garner is fit, so hopefully he'll start and bring more pace and an attacking threat from midfield instead of Doucoure.Patterson has to start; Young can't play two games in four days, and offers nothing going forward. Raymond Fox 3 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:02:19 He does look a worried man and I can''t say I blame him. We are in trouble whichever way you look at it. Eugene Stalker 4 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:03:37 "A rabbit in the headlights" springs to mind when you see that photo. Kevin Molloy 5 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:06:56 We just need one player, a good player to replace Doucoure. A playmaker. I think that would be transformative. Even on loan, from a Real Madrid, or Man Utd. A quality player who can stroke the ball around. John Raftery 6 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:21:12 There is no money?! Jack Convery 7 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:43:03 What am I going to do? Oh I know… get paid £12M, whatever happens! Jimmy Carr 8 Posted 17/01/2025 at 15:52:50 For a moment, right at the start when he was asked about Garner, I thought he was going to say 'Jimmy's back on the grass'. Hoping, by him talking about crosses into the box, that Patterson gets a game against Spurs. I know I sound like a stuck record. Martin Berry 9 Posted 17/01/2025 at 16:30:21 He looked like a Manager about to get the sack in his press conference after the Villa game, such was his demeanour.I think he realized properly what has been happening all season and I am sure his mood was out of frustration. Calvert-Lewin and Harrison have to go out of the starting line-up as they both offer nothing to their supposed roles. The injured players can't return soon enough, and a couple of new signings by the end of the window and bring in February with a reset. Simon Harrison 10 Posted 17/01/2025 at 17:33:00 Yes Jimmy Carr,Me too, though I'm sure he would have added that it is purely medicinal, and he has a prescription for it!Mainly to deal with all the pain from the knives stuck in his back, and from being blamed for not being an international class RM, CM and RB all rolled into one package! Phil Smith 11 Posted 17/01/2025 at 17:55:36 If the 3 he replaced start against Spurs I'll not be watching on Sunday. Harrison, Young (although he's done well recently) and DCL simply should not be anywhere near the first 11. I'd still play Dixon over Young and be looking to the future. Tom Bowers 12 Posted 17/01/2025 at 18:07:46 It was no great surprise the result against villa. So many home games with no reward has become commonplace over the last few seasons. You need goals to win games even one on some occasions but nothing has changed in the finishing nor the creativity dept.Signings are crucial on offence otherwise all the good efforts elsewhere are of no use.Ndiaye is the best of a bad bunch but just doesn't get used as much as he should.Moyes has problems to resolve quickly if we are to get clear of the bottom three. With DCL and Beto doing very little and Chermitti almost a no show how can we ever get a goal or two.Surely TFG are going to sign some cheques soon otherwise just sacking Dyche will have been of little conseqence. Jeff Spiers 13 Posted 17/01/2025 at 18:57:26 As I mentioned on another post, surely he must have done his homework on the standard of the players he was signing up to manage? If it gets too much he can always walk away. He can't be that skint. Mike Brownlow 14 Posted 17/01/2025 at 19:04:55 Liked the comment about the championship.. we can get some good players that can grow and at same time we have some players that would fit perfectly in that league.. Jay Harris 15 Posted 17/01/2025 at 19:16:05 We have to be wary about Son and Kulacheski so I would certainly not risk Dixon nor Patterson. I would be tempted to play Garner there with Patterson in front of him and tell Mykolenko just to do a man-to-man marking on Kulacheski with Harrison in front of him keeping Pedro quiet.Their midfield is quite depleted at the moment so a chance for Harrison Armstrong, Ndiaye and Beto to break them down through the middle with Malanga and Gana keeping it tight behind them. Andrew Bentley 16 Posted 17/01/2025 at 19:18:46 Go 5-3-2 and push Ndiaye up alongside Calvert-Lewin. Paterson at right-back and I'd even bring Keane into the back 3 with Tarkowski and Branthwaite. Then drop Doucoure and put Harrison Armstrong in that position. Shane Corcoran 17 Posted 17/01/2025 at 19:21:19 This is partly tongue-in-cheek, as I never thought I'd say it, but we're badly missing McNeil because… he fucking shoots. David West 18 Posted 17/01/2025 at 19:48:01 To be honest, it looks like Moyes has realised it's a fucking mountain to climb!! He looks like he's been up until 5 am playing Football Manger to see if there's any clues to bargain players we might be able to afford. If we don't add some creativity to the midfield, it's hard to see how we win games. The better teams are going to wear us down with possession, we may hold out for some draws, but teams at or around our level know they can sit back and we have nothing to offer creatively going forward and are susceptible to the counter. Pay the money, Friedkin, to give us a chance, fuck the PSR, take points deducted next season, if it means we survive, one to two half-chances a game is not keeping us up! Derek Taylor 19 Posted 17/01/2025 at 20:21:43 Regardless of more wingers and specialist coaches, if Moyes doesn't get in a goalscoring striker, he will be suffering relegation and the sack again come May. Too many managers have seen CDL as their saviour and he's let them all down - get him out of the door soonest and save your job, Davey ! The Friedlings don't mess about ! David West 20 Posted 17/01/2025 at 20:26:08 Derek.. I think this manger may need CBD never mind CDL is that some other new hallucinogenic the mangers are turning to ? Derek Taylor 21 Posted 17/01/2025 at 20:36:06 CDL or DCL, he's 'away in the manger', David! Sean O'Hanlon 22 Posted 17/01/2025 at 21:03:32 After that crap on Wednesday night, Moyes must be thinking, "WTF! Why? Why? Why? Why did I return here!" Christy Ring 23 Posted 17/01/2025 at 21:35:51 Jay #16 In all fairness, Dyche played him at fullback, he was totally lost, he's a midfielder with great pace going forward. David West 24 Posted 17/01/2025 at 21:39:20 Sean 23. I don't think we were as crappie as usual to be fair. It's the most I've seen us try to keep the ball and actually build up some moves in a while. It'd the most I've seen our fullbacks trying to get forward this season. Without reinforcements its not going to turn around in a few days. But let's look at positives ! Sean Kearns 25 Posted 18/01/2025 at 00:33:33 PickfordPatterson-Tarky-Jazza-Myko Gana- MangalaLindstrom-Ndiaye-Armstrong Beto Si Cooper 26 Posted 18/01/2025 at 00:39:24 Martin (9), which interview was that? I saw the one he did on TNT and he seemed remarkably chilled to me. Mind you, I believe he is in a ‘win/win situation anyway; if we stay up hes a miracle worker, if we go down it was ‘an impossible job. Jay (16), you think there is no risk in playing Garner as the full-back against Son in his first game back after a long time out with injury?Son will get the best of whoever he is up against at some point anyway and the main thing will be how effective they are in not letting him get free without some sort of nagging pursuit. Id pick Patterson just because of his better mobility. Martin Mason 27 Posted 18/01/2025 at 01:01:52 David, I'm searching really hard for those positives. Give us a clue. Jay Harris 28 Posted 18/01/2025 at 04:27:15 Si Au contraire I think Patterson strength is getting forward and crossing/ shooting but his weakness is defending. With Patto and Jimmy Garner on that flank well have the best of both worlds and a partnership we can develop. Eddie Dunn 29 Posted 18/01/2025 at 07:28:09 Sean, I think I'd go with your line-up.Everyone knows what Domenic does and normally he has two centrebacks to deal with. He competes for the first ball with one and the other guy clears it.Beto is unpredctable, disruptive and combative. He also can finish. He is unpolished but can create havoc leading to scraps for others. We just have to get players up quickly to get near him.If it doesn't work, rather than swap him with Domenic, I would throw the two up top. Colin Crooks 30 Posted 18/01/2025 at 09:01:28 SiI'm not sure a manager who takes over a team who have always been out of the bottom three because of a superior points hall and a superior goal difference to it's rivals (despite playing less games) can in any way be described as a "miracle worker" simply because he keeps us up.I cant escape the feeling that the panic button was pressed prematurely among the faithful and in turn been pressed by TFG. If the probability of relegation wasnt here before. it certainly is now.Moyes needs to come in and cajole performances from players who have contracts running down and who will feel they owe him nothing because don't know him from Adam.Tough gig. He needs our support Derek Taylor 31 Posted 18/01/2025 at 12:28:24 Seems Moyes is yet another mug manager who will be relying on Calvert-Lewin to get and keep us from relegation. That in spite of the fact the big fella wants away from our club! So disappointing to see our returning manager already talking about the bloody 'positives' of the hulk 'getting contact' on goal opportunities as though there were points awarded for pathetic kicks!Be warned, Davey, he'll take you with him out of Everton if you're not careful! Jim Bennings 32 Posted 18/01/2025 at 13:07:05 What more can he do with the players he's got at present? When Dyche left, he had 14 of his own signings plus Tarkowski, Keane and McNeil as his former Burnley henchmen here.Moyes hasn't made a single signing to date so he's going to quickly find out who and where we need massive improvement. The winger situation needs absolutely rectifying, the lack of pace pisses me off.The centre-forward situation also pisses me off as we've been far too persistent and far too loyal for far too long with Calvert-Lewin. Peter Jones 33 Posted 18/01/2025 at 13:18:51 Beto or Michael Keane up front.Or both.DCL out. Time up. Si Cooper 34 Posted 19/01/2025 at 01:07:57 Jay (28), sorry but you've avoided answering my question about Son one-on-one with Garner. I think any of our options will be chasing shadows but Patterson will chase for longest.Colin (30), we just have a massive difference of opinion about how confident anyone could be that we would remain ahead of the relegation favourites without a radical change in performance and form. Ernie Baywood 35 Posted 19/01/2025 at 03:00:51 The best striker at the club will probably start. If you don't like the fact that he's not that good, then the issue is the management of the club. That is true regardless of whether Moyes thinks the best striker is Calvert-Lewin, Beto or Keane (it is Calvert-Lewin, though).I'd like to see Patterson but I'm interested to see whether Moyes will make that decision. In attack, Harrison and Lindstrom are pretty interchangeable. And I still can't see who comes in to do Doucoure's role... unless it's two up top or there's a shift in formation or Ndiaye's role. This selection will be more interesting than the first. He was never going to do too much changing of personnel against Villa. This is one will be an iteration of his thinking… Annika Herbert 36 Posted 19/01/2025 at 04:40:00 James Garner is not a right-back and would be completely wasted there. Let's not start with the square pegs in round holes scenario again.Personally, I would start with Patterson at right-back, he has the pace to combat Son. Jerome Shields 37 Posted 21/01/2025 at 20:16:42 I was quite impressed with Moyes's press conference, having just seen it.
