Season › 2024-25 › News Everton look to sign Carlos Alcaraz on loan Lyndon Lloyd 31/01/2025 219comments | Jump to last Flamengo say they have agreed a loan deal with Everton for former Southampton and Juventus attacking midfielder, Carlos Alcaraz. Pending a successful medical, it appears as though the 22-year-old will become the Blues' first signing of the winter transfer window, just months after becoming Flamengo's record buy in an €18m deal. He had previously spent the final six months of the 2023-24 season on loan at Juventus. Alcaraz began his career at Racing Club in his native Argentina before being picked up by Saints two years ago in a £12m deal. Though the 2022-23 campaign was a relegation season for the south coast side, he was one of the stand-out performers and he was awarded a five-year contract in October 2023. The deal that took "Charly" to Turin reportedly invoved an optional buy clause of almost €50m but Juve never exercised it and the player made his switch to Brazil last August. Mick O'Malley 2 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:06:52 He's played in the PL for Southampton so knows what it's about, we need bodies in cos if Beto gets injured were knackered, let's see what the lads about first before we put the boot in Sam Hoare 3 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:09:14 Interesting. Showed some potential at Southampton. A versatile player who could fill a number of positions but is probably best as a 10 or inside forward. Quick, decent on the ball and not too shy of a tackle from memory. Not sure what the purchase price is but if its under £14m then it could be a very sensible move.Old school that no one seemed to know about this till deal was announced by Flanengo! Chris James 4 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:10:11 Escape with Alcaraz? Nick White 5 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:11:01 I didnt think we could sign any more players on loan? Hope he can slot straight in though! Jim Potter 6 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:11:50 Let's hope he's a goodun. Derek Knox 7 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:12:13 Better than nothing or no-one, but I can't remember him playing for Southampton. Is he any good ? Was hoping for Dewsbury Hall for midfield. Now, if he is on loan, whose loan spot has he used up, Mangala's or ?Is he available for tomorrow's bench ? Simon Harrison 8 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:12:28 Looks a decent signing Lyndon.Very much can play anywhere, other than LB and CB.Primarily RFd,but has a decent Left foot too.At 22 he is at a good age to either to develop or sell on, and he's not a prolific goal scorer or provider, but he has, looking at his stats, a very good engine for a young player.Good work team Moywell-TFG 👍💙 Ian Edwards 9 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:13:54 His stats are:played 104 Goals:14. Assists: 7Booked: 18Moyes was probably meaning Alcaraz when he mentioned the quality of player we'll sign this window due to FFP. I'm hoping for Carney Chukwukemeka from Chelsea. Cracking player when Chelsea rotated and used him. Michael Boardman 10 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:15:37 Isn't the limit on loans from English sides only? I heard, or maybe I dreamt it, that we still had some foreign club loan specs left, so not sure it's a Mangala thing Simon Harrison 11 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:17:04 Sam [3]I owe you an apology for 'dropping you in it' on the other thread, where you said Mangala wouldn't be recalled. When I posted on the Transfer Window thread that he wouldn't, I had read it from French press. Why he has been recalled is to oversee his Rehab, and as far as I can see, his Loan has been terminated too.Which thankfully means his wage is off the books, and as such has probably enabled this loan..?Good wishes Sam.PS You're no relation to Col. Mike Hoare are you? Ray Roche 12 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:20:09 Del@7Mangalas loan must have been cancelled Del, probably with some payment to his parent club. Chris Leyland 13 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:23:25 Great tennis player Mihir Ambardekar 14 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:23:41 He will do well. Energetic and is better than Doucoure. He should ideally replace him. Midfield of Garner, Gana and Alcaraz looks like a good energetic midfield. Now hope we sign 1 right winger and 1 good striker, we would score more goals and climb up the table. Ian Edwards 15 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:24:56 That would be a very uncreative midfield, Mihir. I'd go Garner, Lindstrom, Alcaraz. Derek Knox 16 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:27:53 Thanks Ray, couldn't quite fathom what was the position regarding this. Definitely under any ' clickbait radar ' which is a good thing, and the way I like to hear about transfers or loans even.He is certainly the right age if he proves to be good, towards any rebuilds, should we make his loan a permanent one. Look forward to see what he can offer ! Kevin Molloy 17 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:30:36 THE Southampton?let's hope he's better than his Dad. Sam Hoare 18 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:31:00 Simon@11, no worries! Dont think Mike is a close relation.Ian@15, Gana has arguably been our best player this season and will start every match when fit. Paul Smith 19 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:32:24 Not a done deal yet - according to Alan Myers. Why Flamenco have confirmed it who knows. Mick O'Malley 20 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:32:32 Scored on his last appearance for Flamengo, let's hope he can keep it up, welcome to Everton Charly Jay Harris 21 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:33:01 Considering Mangala is out for the season I think this is a great bit of business and puts off paying for him until the summer.I anticipate us getting Chuck a butty from Chelsea on loan and sending Harrison back to Leeds and the spending what's left on a striker of sorts. Pity we missed out on Tom Cannon IMO. Jay Harris 22 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:34:59 Derek,I believe we are obliged to buy him as part of the loan deal. Brian Williams 23 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:39:00 Jay#22Only if certain targets are reached Jay.We have the option to buy which, as I say, can become mandatory if certain targets are reached. Jim Bennings 24 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:40:30 I've said for some time we should be looking at more South American talent, so let's see how this lad does Other clubs seem to shop from that particular continent and usually you find these lads are technically gifted and have a nasty streak to match a work ethic.I had to look twice to see the words "attacking midfielder" so it's refreshing on that front anyway that it's not yet another holding player. We are crying out for a new technician in that midfield so here's hoping. Svein-Roger Jensen 25 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:41:36 As far as his style of play goes, Alcaraz is most effective in a box-to-box midfield role, although especially so in an attacking sense, with his high work rate and decision-making blending well to make him influential both in and out of possession. He is a great ball carrier, with good core strength to glide past defenders, and his positive first touch allows him to smartly drive forward into vacant space, with a tendency of going deep into the opposition half whilst orchestrating his teams attacks, either on the counter or in slow build-up play situations. Brian Williams 26 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:42:16 Well I'm off to prepare myself for tomorrow's good news. Jeff Armstrong 27 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:44:25 Jay 21, Leeds know Harrison is shite, theyre not taking him back.Get over it. Ray Roche 28 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:44:54 According to Sky, its not a done deal yet. Simon Harrison 29 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:49:26 Thanks for that snap shot of Alcaraz Svein-Roger. [25]I'd see him sitting alongside Gueye, with probably Doucs at 10 still, until Jimmy-G is fit, then Charly to 10 and Garner at 8 alongside Gueye.I doubt he'll be eligible to play tomorrow (hopefully it's all been done under the radar and he's passed his fitness tests and got his playing clearances, but...)Also, as several have said, what a refreshing change, we sign a player, and the first we fans hear of it is via confirmation we've signed him.!Charly Alcaraz to Everton, "Here we go!"Deal signed todayPS I wonder if this is the sort of gamble that Moyes was referring to in his presser today? Mick O'Malley 30 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:53:14 Hopefully I haven't jumped the gun with the earlier post, but hopefully this goes through, we are desperate for attacking options Brian Williams 31 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:53:21 Ray#28.He's coming for a medical tomorrow I think. Knowing our luck he'll fall down the aircraft steps and do his ACL. Mihir Ambardekar 32 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:55:10 @Ian 15 Gana has been quite good this season and is very good at breaking up the play. Garner is tidy and keeps the midfield ticking. Alcaraz will be more attack minded and has previous experience in Premier league. He is definitely better passer and more attack minded compared to clumsy & poor Doucoure who has been responsible for killing most of our attacks with poor passing, control or shooting Simon Harrison 33 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:56:50 Brain, [31] have you a source for that? Not doubting you, but it is highly unlikely we'd sign a player who hasn't had a fitness assessment. Oh, hang on we're Everton..? HeheThat might be why Sky are poo-pooing it's a done deal while Fabrizio says it's a done deal. Les Moorcroft 34 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:57:23 Pete 1Well in positive from the get go. Dennis Ng 35 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:57:49 Brian 31, what is the most effective form of prayer over there? Our luck can't be worse, given the number of relegation fights we've seen in the past few years, and that's not even comparable to the '90s.I hope he does well with us. "In our shirt Is our man" Rob Halligan 36 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:58:55 Think I remember him scoring a few decent goals for Southampton, the year they went down, and thinking to myself, “Wow, looks far too good for these”, so hopefully he can replicate that with us! 🙏🙏🙏 Shaun Parker 37 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:59:08 We need a striker if even just for cover.Unpopular choice but I can see Danny Ings landing.Cheap and can score.I hope not but at the moment beggars cant be choosers. Derek Knox 38 Posted 31/01/2025 at 17:59:43 Replacing Doucoure ? Music to my ears ! Rob Halligan 39 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:00:20 I dont mean him “being too good” for us, bit! Kevin Molloy 40 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:00:46 But Alan Myers said it was still up in the air. Can't believe it, he's normally so sourced. Or is that sauced. Jay Harris 41 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:03:56 I think its a great deal in the circumstances but still feel we need a goalscorer in. Simon Harrison 42 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:04:23 Rob, we get you! HeheHe looked a tidy player alright, I think he will chip in, but I think he'll be the type of player to feed our wingers for the 'Big Chance' / assist ball.In any regard, once we have Jimmy back up to fitness and Timmy coming back, he'll make a superb upgrade on Doucs.Though in fairness we owe Doucs our PL status and some "good times". Unfortunately as with us all, Father Time is a cruel parent.PS Day 43/100 and we make our first signing under our new custodianship Brian Williams 43 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:05:04 Simon#33I think Sky were being careful as the agreement was "subject to medical" but I'm now not sure whether he's had that or not yet. Colin Crooks 44 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:08:19 I Couldnt remember him, but on You tube (I know, I know ) there is 14 goals and assist. The assists seem a bit of a stretch, but if he can grab 2/3 goals or us in the coming weeks, he'll be very welcome indeed Ian Bennett 45 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:08:52 A try before you buy seems sensible. He impressed for Saints at times when he was in the Premier League last time around.Likely to be a good technical player, goal contributions and a good age. Dean Johnson 46 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:09:04 If he signs, how many of our squad have been relegated then?!Sounds like a Thelwell signing Simon Harrison 47 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:09:22 Thanks Brian W, I don't watch Sky (Murdoch empire)I have a feeling, that with the deal being announced this late on a Friday, it may well be subject to papers and medical first. He has played twice for Argentina, so that should mean he gets his papers, not to mention he played for Soton.Just his medical. The fact that he has only had two injuries and just missed 55 days of playing time in nearly six years. I expect him to fly thru the medical too.A great addition for the FA cup game methinks! Mal van Schaick 48 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:11:07 Have we not learned the lessons from the past, having brought players in who werent up to it and were difficult to offload.Loan him, but pay as you play with a review of his performance before we commit. Simon Harrison 49 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:11:13 Dean [56] What is that meant to mean? If Charly can be a positive addition to the squad, I wouldn't care how many relegations he has on his CV.One player doesn't relegate a team... Simon Harrison 50 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:13:30 Mal [48]Read Rob's post at [33] and Brian at [23] Svein-Roger Jensen 51 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:14:24 Highly technical, Alcaraz could oversees set-piece responsibilities for the team as he can deliver deadly accurate balls into the box and has already scored direct free kicks on a number of occasions. His masterly shooting technique adds an invaluable facet to any players locker. So definitely an upgrade in our midfield Brian Williams 52 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:14:28 Cheers for that Simon. 👍 Bobby Mallon 53 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:24:26 Ian @15 doesn't like Gana never has and never will no matter how well he plays. Andrew James 54 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:27:02 The South American market should be dominating the English Premier League like it does Spain. There are some wonderful players over there and hopefully Charly is one of them. Rob Jones 55 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:27:40 Dean, many of our better players under Moyes' first tenure were relegated players. It's how financially screwed clubs like us find value. Jeff Armstrong 56 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:28:08 How so Sky Sports have any credibility when they have morons like Paul Merson and Clinton Morrison commenting on transfer business?Morrisons biggest achievement in life is eradicating the phrase”you know what ah mean” from his vocabulary in his time as a football “expert”. Simon Harrison 57 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:30:01 Brian [52]On Lyndon's second project 'Evertonia', in the article on there regards Alcaraz, he has stated that the deal is dependent on passing his medical, so I assume you're correct regards his medical, whether tomorrow or Sunday, to sort his personal situation out at home maybe. I.e. just the usual stuff, sorting the cat out and milk etc.. hehe Gerard Carey 58 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:34:30 Wait for it!?, Spurs will come in for him at the last minute and nick him from us. Colin Metcalfe 59 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:36:49 Just got a message from a mate of mine who is a big Saints fan, said he was dencent when he got the chance as apparently he didnt get many opportunities to play but he was very young and homesick by all accounts. Lets hope his past experiences will help him settle quickly because surely he an upgrade on Harrison and Doucoure. John Raftery 60 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:44:56 We need him to settle into the squad quickly. That he has some experience of playing in this country gives him a fighting chance of doing so. I hope he is fully fit. We have previously had players signing in January, Niasse and McGready being the two obvious examples, who had ‘de-trained before joining us. Mike Corcoran 61 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:46:57 Like if Doucoure could play football. Moyes used to often pull a cracker in the Jan window. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cv2ocBv5xT8&pp=ygUXY2FybG9zIGFsY2FyYXogZm9vdGJhbGw%3D Andrew Bentley 62 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:47:54 Hope he settles here. Been moved around a lot in the last 2 years and we desperately need him to hit the ground running! Pete Day 63 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:50:23 Skillful player, and when hes on it he's on it! Needs to be played on the front foot, joining midfield and attack or off the striker, my saints supporting family loved him and were gutted to see him go, I watched him alot when they were in the championship, fingers crossed he improves us and is the start of the new buying model Mike Corcoran 64 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:53:02 Probably end up with Antolin not Carlos. Im not gonna be able to bear me dad calling him Alcatraz and thinking hes a comedian again. Mal van Schaick 65 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:53:16 #Simon #50 I have read those posts. Thanks.#56 Jeff. I totally agree with your sentiments. Anthony Dwyer 66 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:56:34 Aged 22 experiences in both England and Italy aswel as Brazil and his native Argentina, seems a good signing too me. Christy Ring 67 Posted 31/01/2025 at 18:58:06 Everton haven't confirmed the deal yet, but nothing new there. He has to be an upgrade on Doucoure. Rob Dolby 68 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:06:53 I remember him from the Southampton season. He looked a decent attacking central midfielder.Weird he went off to juve and then flamenco for their record signing only to be going out on loan 6 months later. It's only a loan so let's see what he has to offer, 22 years of age, and experience in the prem is a bonus. Bit more concerning juve and flamenco have got shut pretty quickly. Mike Gaynes 69 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:07:55 Just got out of a long morning meeting to see this news. Very pleased, because this is obviously a player who knows how to serve a ball into the right areas and can really crack a volley. And these are not backhanded compliments.(trying to use up all the tennis jokes here)Alcaraz will provide some maximum security in the midfield as long as we don't cage him up or leave him on an island. (trying to use up all the prison puns here)Svein-Roger and Pete Day, thanks for those scouting reports.Simon, no, he has not made his full debut for Argentina... just the U23s. Andrew Ellams 70 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:07:57 It will be his 4th move in 2 years though which is something of a red flag. Edward Rogers 71 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:09:26 I'm o.k. with this, we're obviously waiting until 11.00pm on Monday to swoop for Mbappe & Lamine Yamal!!! Rob Halligan 72 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:10:56 Dean # 46………Jordan Pickford got relegated with Sunderland. Hasnt turned out too bad, has he, even winning one or two England caps along the way. Andrew Ellams 73 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:12:41 He did make the full squad earlier this season Mike but didn't get a cap. Sometime soon I guess. Dave Abrahams 74 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:13:01 Svien - Roger Jensen (25and51), The way you describe his qualities it seems we will be getting a quite remarkable player and all for £14M if he fits the bill, looks like we have stolen a march on dozens of clubs, cant wait to see him. Mike Gaynes 75 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:13:04 Got to laugh... I predicted previously that whoever we signed this weekend would instantly be portrayed as a "panic buy" on TW, and Pete made me look wise on the very first post of this thread! John Hall 76 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:19:16 Svein-Roger (25) - he sounds Douc's replacement. Got to get Douc off the books ASAP! Mike Gaynes 77 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:19:33 Andrew #73, don't see his name in the current Argentina squad, but it's good to know that he has been there at least. Rob Halligan 78 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:20:32 Mike, what you should have asked Pete, why does he think it is a panic buy? Needless to say, you wouldnt have got a reply! John Hall 79 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:20:32 Why is he moving around so much? Does he kick the teapot over at h/t? Ian Wilkins 80 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:24:40 Interesting loan to buy. Can play several positions, we need that optionally. Saints supporting family member says he had real potential. There could be a good player in there. David Peate 81 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:29:02 Alcaraz on BBC website says he is an Everton loan player. Joe McMahon 82 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:30:55 Haven't been able to keep up, shit busy day. Does anyone know if he can play upfront? Dennis Stevens 83 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:33:51 It's on Wiki, so it must be true! Edward Rogers 84 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:36:10 World's gone mad. £71 million for John Duran from Villa!!!! Bloody hell! Mike Gaynes 85 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:37:47 Edward, I don't think they have PSR in the Saudi league! Emma Day 86 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:37:49 Just been watching him on YouTube (I know) but he seems a very similar player to Ross Barkley. Stu Darlington 87 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:50:05 Hes played in the Premier League.Hes 22,warm and breathing.About all I expected with the state of our finances.Im a bit disappointed we havent gone for someone like Walker-Peters,decent player for not much money.Suppose there must be a reason. Brian Williams 88 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:53:14 Edward#84.That's Euro's.It's around £64m, still ridiculous though. Mike Doyle 89 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:54:28 Stu. We may have gone for Walker-Peters (who I like too) and he may not fancy us.Im regularly reminded by the under 35 year olds I work with that Everton are not a big/attractive club … we are a mid-low level EPL team who never win anything. Colin Glassar 90 Posted 31/01/2025 at 19:55:21 False flag. Mike Gaynes 91 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:00:47 Moyes interviewed in the Guardian regarding the lack of signings:“Its certainly not for the want of trying. Undoubtedly were still hampered with PSR. Im really jealous of watching a lot of teams who can attempt to go for players at expensive prices. At the moment, were not quite there but we dont want to get ourselves in a position weve been in before with points deductions so we have to be really mindful of what we do. We hope to bring in some players but maybe its not the ones who, if we really had the money, wed be trying to do.”The Everton manager admits the PSR challenges have increased his admiration for the business conducted by his predecessor, Sean Dyche, and director of football, Kevin Thelwell, to keep the club afloat in the Premier League in recent seasons. “Ive been really surprised at the way its restricting the football club,” Moyes added. “Evertons a huge football club and should be competing with many of the big clubs in the country and hopefully spending in a way where its right and challenging for the big players who are available.“Theres not that many in January, to be honest, but the PSR is hindering us. I think I can see now why the last few years at Everton have been so difficult. The people whove had to work under the restrictions have done a remarkable job.”Interesting that he apparently wasn't clear on our situation BEFORE he joined the club. Svein-Roger Jensen 92 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:00:58 Let ease him into the firing line and I have no doubt he will soon be an important player for the club. Up the Toffees Edward Rogers 93 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:01:35 Cheers Brian, obscene either way! Kevin Molloy 94 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:05:16 some cocky little shite at Claret and Booze with good contacts at the club is cockahoop on YouTube that they've just sucker punched us. Brian Wilkinson 95 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:15:50 Dean, if he does as well as relegated Pickford, I will be more than happy.Worth having a look at at only 22 the sort of younger players fans have been asking for, Guaye and Doucoure are not getting any younger, so this lad might slot in alongside Iroegbunam and Garner for the long term future. Robert Tressell 96 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:24:18 Strange signing if true.Firstly, does this mean we have managed to cancel someone's loan? If so, presumably Mangala - because otherwise we wouldn't have another loan space free?Otherwise, it kind of illustrates where we are as a club at the moment. Although Alcaraz has some talent and did well at Saints in their last relegation season (6 goal contributions in 18 games), he isn't now a sought after player. His career seems to be on a downward trajectory and he's behind the likes of Buonanotte of Leicester (on loan from Brighton) in the Argentina set-up (in fact Alcaraz has never been capped by Argentina).Really, we are signing him because he is available - and in truth there probably aren't many players we would be remotely interested in who are available to us and might actually improve the side. Very, very few. But, on the upside, he is young - and has possibly just had a series of unfortunate transfers since leaving Argentina as a 19/20 year old. Varela and Danilo were the other two top prospects who left South America at about the same time - and both have done well at Porto and Forest respectively.Everton could be the right club at the right time. If it happens, I'll be excited to see him play as the more advanced of a trio in a 433 - and certainly a much more technically gifted player than Doucoure in that role. Paul Kernot 97 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:24:46 Jay #21. I really miss Scouse humour. Have lived away for a long time. Chris Leyland 98 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:31:37 Robert T - the rules now are 2 domestic loans at any one time and 6 from outside your own country. Robert Tressell 99 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:34:48 Thanks Chris - if that's the case then I wouldn't be surprised to see more loan activity. Still reckon we might get 1 or 2 more in before the window closes. Paul Hewitt 100 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:34:52 West ham apparently beaten us to him. Rob Halligan 101 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:35:27 Kevin # 94…….Ive just been watching that. LMFAO at it. He thinks Alcarez should go to West Ham cos theyre in London, jeez, he might as well go and join Leyton Orient in that case! Kept saying Alcarez and his agent would like to go to West Ham, all whilst the player is flying over to England, and the flight will be diverted to London! Yeah right, his contact is always in touch with the pilot, giving him strict instructions on where to go!Ok, so West Ham are based in London, so what, doesnt mean any player should go there just because of that. They are a fuck all club,in a shithouse stadium and have won fuck all.And Paul, # 100…..no they havent! Hes not going to West Ham. Chris Leyland 102 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:36:28 Robert - its actually 6 now. 8 was 2022/3 and it dropped to 7 last season and 6 now.Mr Kenrick explains it here from a few years ago: https://www.ToffeeWeb.com/season/21-22/comment/talkingpoints/42251.html Pat Kelly 103 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:37:05 This guy gets around. Brian Williams 106 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:43:53 If it's six, which it isn't, isn't it strange that when you check the number of on loan players premier league clubs have, the maximum ANY club has, and there are a number who have this amount, is four! Nobody has five or six simply because the maximum is FOUR! Stu Darlington 107 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:44:47 Mike @ 69Used up all the tennis jokes??I cannot believe it!! Ian Bennett 108 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:47:52 What was the highest number of Loans last season for a club Brian? Also shows how the management & DOF are dealing with actual possible deals that they can do. Others that we've all mentioned may just be pipe dreams, media bollocks or just us all hoping for players never really in our grasp. Dont remember anyone championing Ndiaye before we got him either so, I'm keeping my opinion on this fella to my self, untill I see him in the blue shirt! Rob Halligan 114 Posted 31/01/2025 at 20:56:34 Jeez, here we go again………..the maximum number of players allowed on loan is 4…FOUR… two from this country and two from abroad………Loans between Premier League clubs and other English counterparts are officially called temporary transfers.Under the rules in the Premier League Handbook 2024/25 (Download PDF, size: 18.2MB), there are restrictions on how many players Premier League clubs can loan from other Premier League/English clubs. They are:- Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.- The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.- A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club. With the exception of Welsh clubs competing in the competitions listed under Rule V.6.2, loans from a club in membership of another National Association do not count towards the above quotas. Bobby Mallon 116 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:07:23 Rob can you repeat that David West 117 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:08:57 MikeG 91. Is that the most experienced PL manager, praising the work done by by DOF ? And of course Dyche, who kept us up against all odd ? Moyes has looked at the financials and said. "shit !!! How've you kept this ship sailing ??? "" I'm of the feeling Thelwell has provided decent enough players, with the Psr restrictions, it was just the manager that held the team back. Bit more wiggle room with PSR, better manager, better tactics we could see ahuge improved Everton! Les Moorcroft 118 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:10:29 Were do west ham come into this story? Kevin Prytherch 119 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:10:41 But didnt we sign Straq on loan a few years ago, does that mean we have one less loan space? Brian Williams 120 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:13:12 David Moyes side already have four players on loan, which would mean one of those signings would need to become a permanent one or go back to their parent club to allow them to bring Chukwuemeka in until the end of the season due to Premier League rules prohibiting teams loaning more than four players at once. Brendan McLaughlin 121 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:13:17 Stuart #115Think it's seven. Dennis Stevens 122 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:16:35 Mike #91 - I'm not sure any manager Everton has recruited has ever known what they're walking into until it's too late! Tony Abrahams 123 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:19:59 Mike@91, this maybe explains why David Moyes, was a sensible appointment.Dyches football was killing us but managing Everton, was obviously doing the same thing to Sean Dyche, and if he was told there was no money, then Im glad he did the honest and honourable thing, by telling TFG, that he couldnt really carry on because of the current debilitating nature of managing Everton FC.Every game is big, but I personally think tomorrows game is the biggest game of our season, so far, because it could really pull us away, or suddenly pull us a lot closer, to the relegation zone. Rob Halligan 124 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:26:28 Les # 118…….some cockney knobhead saying he has inside information that Alcaraz wants to go to West Ham. This knobhead has had a real grudge against Moyes for the past couple of years, and is now spouting shit that Alcaraz is going to West Ham, just because Moyes was offered Alcaraz when he was West Ham manager, but turned him down, and he would like to see Moyes denied the chance to get the player. This is the same West Ham fan who also had inside information on Duran of Aston Villa going to West Ham. That turned out well didnt it! Ian Bennett 125 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:34:58 Forest signed 6 loan players last season on the books at the same time. Reyna, origi, tavares, riberio, andre, montiel. Some u21 and some obligation to buy I think.Ipswich currently have 4 loans, and are looking at further loan deals in the striker department. No mention of any loan signings being released. Mckemna doesn't sound hopeful though. So either u21s don't count or overseas loans with an obligation to buy are treated differently. Alcaraz is an obligation to buy interestingly, rather than a straight loan.Assuming Mangala is terminated, then that is either covering Alcaraz or is indeed another spot. The timing of the announcements will probably highlight this.Id be very surprised if you could loan 6 players last year, and only 4 this year. The fifa rules didn't do that for sure, and I'd be surprised if Premier league rules have changed that much this season.Let's see. Stuart Sharp 126 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:36:37 Thanks for clearing that up Brendan. Brendan McLaughlin 127 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:42:45 Ian #125Yes under 21's are treated differently. Does that explain the Forest situation? Les Moorcroft 128 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:44:22 Rob 124Thanks for that. If he comes good luck to the lad. Mike Gaynes 129 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:46:21 One other point... this is a really good example of how closedmouthed our new owners and current DoF can be -- and how silly so much of the speculation can be -- because Alcaraz' name was never even hinted at by any source anywhere. Tony #123, great point, although I wonder whether TFG viewed their conversation with Dyche as doing the "honest and honourable thing" because of the clear hostility of the parting. Based on TFG's terse statement, I'm not sure they would describe Dyche in those terms. Paul Ferry 130 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:50:19 31st January and there are reported signs of activity in and around Finch Farm as the last minute group head to the office. Ian Bennett 131 Posted 31/01/2025 at 21:52:48 Possibly. Riberio and Reyna were U21.If that's the rule, I'd be going hard for Karim Konate out of Red Bull Salzberg on a loan with obligation to buy. He's U21, Red Bull have been knocked out of the Champions League, and would offer an exciting future. He's the type of young and up and coming player we need to be looking at. A good goal scoring record, admittedly in a lower league. Mike Gaynes 132 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:04:55 Ian #131, I'm afraid not. I saw Konate carried out of a Champions League game with a blown-out knee. And looking it up I see it was his second major knee injury in three months. Ian Bennett 133 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:10:19 Gees. No point me saying bilal toure either then. Hes bust his foot. What they making these lads out if? Dennis Stevens 134 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:27:04 I'm just hoping that nobody at the Club has the bright idea of making Harrison a permanent signing in order to free up a loan slot Nick Strong 135 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:43:03 Didnt he used to play centre back for us? Sam Hoare 136 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:43:27 Seems like this one is happening. With a purchase fee around £18m if certain performance conditions are met. Will be interesting to see what those conditions are.I tend to agree with Robert. Its a bit of a strange move for a player whos never really taken off anywhere but still has time to do so. His versatility could be useful to Moyes. Like an Argentinian Philip Neville. Am curious to see where he fits in and whether the Southampton fans saying hes got a terrible touch for an Argentine are right or just bitter. Robert Tressell 137 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:49:01 Ian # 131, u21 registered loans are definitely treated differently. As for Konate - it's as Mike says he's seriously injured. Good player but then so was Koita until injured and now he's completely disappeared. There's really only 3 strikers in world football I'd be confident would prove good signings from the off; they are Delap, Ferguson and Giminez. Whether they are really gettable is another matter. They will all cost a much much bigger fee than we've spent for about 6 years - and have plenty of options too. Once you get below £40m for a striker the output is very hit and miss. Paul Kossoff 138 Posted 31/01/2025 at 22:57:01 Chris 4 It could all go east would we fail. Not to mention their hatred of the WHU ownership and the stadium. That channel is pure comedy gold! Jerome Shields 141 Posted 01/02/2025 at 00:24:44 I thought before Xmas that this window would need players to move on, to get players in.But the Quick takeover and sorting of finances, vand the PSR being resolved had me hoping.I did not expect a injured Managla to make way for Alcartz. It is possible that a forward will move so a replacement is brought in.It's seems that PSR is still a consideration and trying to work in available players is difficult. Don Alexander 142 Posted 31/01/2025 at 00:53:22 Thank you Mike Gaynes (#91) for publishing the Guardian newspaper article on Moyes actually stating, in terms, that Moshiri and Kenwright have broken our club for time still to come.Frankly, whilst I don't at all differ from that take I suspect our Davie is also erecting a defence in the event that this season goes pear-shaped, because I'd be amazed that he, Moyes, didn't see right through Kenwright as the mega-twat he always was by 2004 at the latest.Moyes then massively feathered his own nest for a further decade whilst Kenwright was bleating about being skint and resorting, publicly, to all sorts of evasion and masquerade as a bona-fide club owner. In the meantime Moyesey clocked up more games than anyone except Wenger and that United dickhead and got very rich indeed for achieving the square root of fuck-all."Professional" football? AS IF!! Simon Harrison 143 Posted 01/02/2025 at 01:36:51 For all those who read my inaccurate spouting of the loan rules vis a 'vis the PL;*** MEA CULPA *** (AKA My bad!)FIFA regulations, incorporated by the PL, state;"FIFA has announced new loan rule plans that will limit clubs to six loan signings, and six loan exits per season, starting from the 2024/25 season; Club-trained players, or players aged 21 or younger are exempt from rules""Clubs will also be restricted to the number of deals they can do with one team in another country, with three players in and three players out at any given point.""The length of loan deals has also been looked at by FIFA. The minimum loan deal will be between two transfer windows while the maximum loan will be one year."Then as Rob H at [114] has thankfully already typed out, here are the PL (Domestic League) regulations as per the PL Handbook 2024/25, P.138, Rules V.5-V.10, with reference to Rules V.1-V.4."The maximum number of players allowed on loan is 4…FOUR (MY insert: at any one time!)Two from this country, see here:V.6. Subject to the conditions set out below, a Temporary Transfer shall be permitted:V.6.1. between Clubs; (PL Clubs)V.6.2. between a Club (PL) and a club in membership of The Football League, the National League, the Northern Premier League, the Isthmian League andthe Southern League; andV.6.3. between a Club that has its registered address in Wales and a club in membership of the Welsh Premier League.- Premier League clubs may not register more than two (Domestic) players on loan at any one time.- The maximum number of (Domestic) loans (See rule V.6 and sub paras above) registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.- A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club. With the exception of Welsh clubs competing in the competitions listed under Rule V.6.2, loans from a club in membership of another National Association do not count towards the above quotas. Therefore to simplify it (and for my sanity after having about five stabs at this now)We can have four loan signings at anyone time. Unless the additional loan signings are club-trained players, or players aged 21 or younger, who are exempt from rules. We cannot have more than two 'domestic' loans at anyone time, and no more than four 'domestic' loans in a season, unless they are club-trained players or players aged 21 or younger, who are exempt from rules.During any season a club cannot loan in, or out more than SIX players. This is a rule change for 2024/25, as last year the number was seven; it has now been reduced to six.So that is we can loan in 6 players max, AND 6 players out max.Currently Everton have used five of their six loans in.Broja (Chelsea) DomesticHarrison (Leeds) DomesticLindstrøm (Napoli) Serie AMangala (Lyon) Ligue 1 - Loan cancelled, player injured.Alcaraz (Flamengo) Brazil Serie AI hope this helps, and if I got it wrong this time, please Michael, just bar me from posting in future! Also, may I apologise for also stating somewhere, that Carlos Alcaraz has two caps for Argentina, he has two U23 caps.He has been selected for the Argentina squad four times in his career, but he yet to make a match appearance. As a last aside here is a link to a Soton supporters group, with a few thoughts on Charly Alcaraz;Charly AlcarazIan [125]Re Forest and their six loan signings from last year, here is the breakdown;Forest 2023/24 Loan Signings in Simon Harrison 144 Posted 01/02/2025 at 01:55:29 Mike G, all good I hope mon ami? Thanks for the International credential correction. That Guardian article you posted up, is verbatim what Moyes said at his presser. Ernie Baywood 147 Posted 01/02/2025 at 05:35:38 Sam 136 - from watching his highlights on YouTube he certainly doesn't look like he's got a good first touch. But there are clip after clip of him moving forward with the ball, taking players on with momentum and a bit of grit. He does look a Moyes type. Rob Hooton 148 Posted 01/02/2025 at 07:56:19 Hope this goes through, could be a bit like when Moyes signed Arteta if all goes well. Steve Shave 149 Posted 01/02/2025 at 07:59:21 Interesting and a bit left field, I like what I see but sceptical about all the recent moves. If that is in anyway related to a poor attitude he will be playing for the wrong manager to be that way. He looks like he has quick feet and can spot a pass. From his highlights reels he looks to me more of a Doucoure replacement, giving us more end product hopefully. There really is a lack of activity and I fear this may be the only signing though I believe we are in the mix for a few, just not an attractive proposition at the moment. Brobbey, Ferguson or Igamane would do for me at this stage, I particularly like Ferguson though imagine he is out of our league. Brobbey is fast and powerful and Igamane looks like a talent, albeit in Scotland. Come on Thelwell, get yer finger out! Hugh Jenkins 150 Posted 01/02/2025 at 08:32:21 Apparently we are also working on a "very complicated" loan deal for Chukwuemeka of Chelsea.I expect the "complexity" aspect is to do with Broja returning to Chelsea, in order to free up the loan space. If this, and Alcaraz, both go through, we will have two new midfielders.I wonder if, behind the scenes, we are also working on getting in a striker? Brendan McLaughlin 151 Posted 01/02/2025 at 08:43:51 Hugh #150I don't think we can send Broja back even if Chelsea were amenable. Jonathan Tasker 152 Posted 01/02/2025 at 08:45:46 Well Wikipedia says he plays for us so it must be true Brian Williams 153 Posted 01/02/2025 at 09:08:15 Brendan#151.What makes you say that Brendan? Is that to do with Simon's loans explanation? Brendan McLaughlin 154 Posted 01/02/2025 at 09:25:29 This Brian #151From the Premier League Handbook (emphasis added):V.7.4. subject to any conditions imposed by the Board in the exercise of its discretion under Rule V.4.2, the minimum period of a Temporary Transfer shall be the period between two consecutive Transfer Windows and the period of a Temporary Transfer shall not extend beyond 30 June next after it was entered into, save that the Board may, in its absolute discretion, permit a Temporary Transfer to be terminated before the commencement of the second Transfer Window (subject to such conditions as the Board deems appropriate); And then further down as a footnote:An example of the circumstances in which the Board might exercise its discretion in Rule V.7.4 is where a Player subject to a Temporary Transfer is unable to represent the Club temporarily holding his registration due to a long-term injury. In such circumstances, the Board might approve the termination of the Temporary Transfer on the condition that the Player is prohibited from making any first team appearances at the Club with which he re-registers, during the remaining period of the original Temporary Transfer.Perhaps I'm reading this wrongly but it suggests to me that the Premier League (the Board) would only have considered approving a request to terminate Broja's loan agreement on the basis that the player has suffered a season ending injury only if the request was made before the January transfer window opened. Tony Abrahams 155 Posted 01/02/2025 at 09:40:54 You take a lot of stick for your incessant posts about certain charlatans Don, but when you post something that looks very close to the truth then this is usually when people ignore you mate!!A bad touch for an Argie, might be good enough to get him into having a great touch in our current squad, Sam, and you could definitely understand TFGS disdain Mike, if its true that Dyche, still wanted all his money after being so honest! If there is a remote possibility, then hopefully Chelsea, can take Borja back and loan us Dewsbury-Hall, and if we could do this and then sign another forward, then suddenly we would have a much stronger and varied squad.Sorry Brendan I hadnt read your post mate, but surely the league would ratify Everton swapping players with Chelsea, if that said Player has got a lot more chance of playing by going on loan🤷♂️ Kevin Molloy 156 Posted 01/02/2025 at 09:53:29 Donafter the ten years we've just had, I think making the case that Davey ripped us off financially during his tenure, is a hard sell. He left the club in superb nick, and in fact even after all these years we still saw the glimmers of his previous tenure during our managerial hiatus when we had Baines and Coleman running things from the bench. He was never a top level manager, never rising above 'very good'. But after the decade just gone, very good will do me just fine. I do get why he irritates you, as he allowed Kenwright to remain unexposed for all those years. But that wasn't his fault, that was him doing his job. Tony Abrahams 157 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:11:57 That last paragraph is exactly why Id had enough of both of them in the end Kevin.Id had enough of Kenwright, well before Wayne Rooney, was sold, and I was delighted Moyes left because I saw him as being complicit whilst he was just doing his job.Moyes left Everton, and stupidly, imo, viewed our club through his years of dealing with the very amateur William Kenwright, but time is such a valuable commodity and I think after moving on with his career, Davids reflection time, has slowly given him a much different view.He looks delighted to be back and on reflection he seems to be a much calmer man. Hes made massive mistakes like underestimating the job, of two biggest clubs, he has ever managed, imo, and I hope he gets to experience the real and proper view of Everton football club, and this will only happen if TFG, are as professional as Im hoping they will be💙 Steve Shave 158 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:13:04 Don @142, Whilst it is no surprise that you mention Kenwright for the millionth time on here, you then talk about your other obsession which is how Moyes "feathered his own nest" whilst in charge before. So, nobody on here has ever tried to make their job more comfortable? Nobody on here has ever asked for a raise after over-performing at work? Nobody on here has ever chosen to get along with their boss even if they may or may not have considered them a bit of a sycophantic twat?! Who wouldn't try to get a decent salary if it was on the table? Honestly, get over it. It's like you think he personally brought the club to its knees during his tenure, like there weren't hundreds of other contributing factors connected to our decline as a once great footballing institution. The man had us over-achieving consistently considering the budget he was given, I accept some struggle to see it but to repeatedly imply he was only in it for himself or even that he lowered our standards (as implied in other posts) is just plain bizarre. Tony Abrahams 159 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:28:31 I think its very debatable that David Moyes, really had us overachieving Steve, once he turned the shop around.I think he left us a very good team, and if hed have had a little bit extra in the squad, he might have gotten us into the champions league in his final season, because some of the football we played that had us in the top three (I think) by Christmas, was very enjoyable to watch, but we couldnt sustain it, because he never really had those extra few players that are required, since football became a squad game. You know my argument anyway because if Everton did over-achieve in the league (except in those infamous away games) then they definitely underachieved in their cup games and because we could never win the league, then I have always felt - and still do - that every single cup game should always be a lot more relevant to a club like Everton. Bill Fairfield 160 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:35:46 Apparently Charley has a bit of a temper. Sent off in pre season friendly for Saints, and on his debut for Flamengo. Hopefully we can channel his Argentine passion in a more positive way. Steve Shave 161 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:44:40 But I guess it's all subjective Tony because everything in your post suggests to me that was over achieving, if you weigh it up against the resources given to him and compare it with what other teams had. It's a tiring debate we've all had for a decade though isn't it? Regardless of what we all think and feel we just need to get on with it now. 3 points today will have this toffee feeling alot more optimistic. Brian Williams 162 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:44:44 Brendan#154With regard to your last para mate I read it as exactly the opposite. :-)My take is that the board would only allow a cancellation of loan before the window opens under certain circumstances not that you can't do it after the window opens. Sam Hoare 163 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:58:03 Ernie@147, yes Ive watched them now, definitely a few touches that are more Straquilursi than Messi but he does have qualities. £18m seems a touch over from what Ive seen but Id hope that would only get triggered if he proves up to the job and at 22 hes got plenty of time to improve. Tony Abrahams 164 Posted 01/02/2025 at 10:58:36 Its very tiring Steve, and also very subjective (except if I wanted bring up some of those very embarrassing cup capitulations!) because Im sure he could have dug out Bill Kenwright, in a similar way that Benitez, dug out owners of the same ilk, as William, across the park, such was the power Moyes had amongst a lot of Evertonians. Its all in the past, an era that needs to be forgotten by many of us, is cherished by many others, who have never seen anything but plucky little Everton, punching above their weight, and its those fans that really matter to me, because the passion of the younger Evertonians, has definitely helped keep Everton, in the big league on more than one occasion.People who have seen nothing but they all understand the meaning of our song… WE SHALL NOT BE FUCKING MOVED! Kevin Molloy 165 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:02:36 Tony yes it took me twenty years, but the penny did finally drop about Kenwright. It's hard for most people to believe that someone can be a consummate dissembler and manipulator. Especially when you had the levels of charm Kenwright was able to wield. It was I think in large part down to that catch in his voice, like he was always on the verge of tears. I think it was just the way his larynx was built, but I think we are hard wired to give people what they want when they are in an emotional state. And he must have realised quite early in life 'I can get people to do what I want'. Hugh Jenkins 167 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:06:18 Brendan (151 & 154), You may ell have more inside information that I have ( that wouldn't be hard - LOL).However, as I have mantioned in other threads, I don't (and I assume none of us), really knows what goes on behind closed doors in the day to day running of EFC.It would seem inequitable though, for that rule you quote to be applied as, without a crystal ball, how could anyone predict a season ending injury to a borrowed player occuring during the time that the transfer window was open, and therfore applying, before the transfer window opened, to cancel the loan "just in case". Tony Abrahams 168 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:13:11 “Must brighter” Paul, is something Id usually overlook except that I think it suits you mate👍 Chris Samuelson getting wheeled in was the one Kevin, but that fortress fund money, that never arrived should have been the end of him, but I think it helped his tenure become more fortress like🤷♂️ Derek Knox 169 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:13:54 Paul H, " He's history now, the future is looking much brighter now."Does that include your matchday predictions ? :-) Ian Wilkins 170 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:27:15 Whilst the Loan Agreement termination debate has been thoroughly enthralling its probably been futile if, as is now being said, Broja will be back sooner than expected and its not season ending.. Robert Tressell 171 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:29:29 Tony, I agree with a lot of what you say on the past - but it ignores the possibility that things could have been much, much worse. There's a very high likelihood we'd have been relegated without Moyes - as evidenced by the fact every single other club with less money than the Rich 6 has been relegated at least once in the Premier League era. Tony Abrahams 172 Posted 01/02/2025 at 11:44:13 No arguments from me Robert, but when the holy grail, becomes celebrating not being relegated, it shows you how far removed we have become, from what we once stood for, imo mate. Jack Convery 173 Posted 01/02/2025 at 12:55:23 Rashford going to Villa. With regards to Alcaraz, Saints fans loved him - this from Saints Marching website.Clearly put, Alcaraz was the heartbeat for Southampton's 2022/23 season. In only 18 Premier League appearances, with 6 direct goal contributions, the midfielder shined at the St. Mary's. Sean Kearns 174 Posted 01/02/2025 at 13:23:11 Just stump up the 40 mill and sign Evan Ferguson FFS… hes worth that all day. Just that one signing could change the wholeClub… a proper center forward is going to change eveyrthing. Remember when Broja came on for the last 5 mins I think against Wolves and just looked immense because he was Premier League level. When we have a modern CF who is elite its going to be a breath of fresh air…. David Weir is Brightons Director of Football. Surely hell look out for us and his old gaffer. There's a very high likelihood we'd have been relegated without Moyes.” And, if my auntie had balls shes be my uncle. Weak stuff. Mihir Ambardekar 176 Posted 01/02/2025 at 13:54:22 We are linked with Awoniyi, Ferguson & Igamane. Igamane looks difficult to me, Ferguson on loan with an option to buy would be good but Broja's loan should be terminated. Chukwueze for 12 mn from Milan, Ferguson on loan, sending Harrison back and signing Chukwuemeka in his place will be great window. Nigel Scowen 177 Posted 01/02/2025 at 13:54:23 Sean@174‘David Weir is Brightons Director of Football. Surely hell look out for us and his old gaffer. Sean Kearns 178 Posted 01/02/2025 at 13:54:56 There is 92 professional football teams in England, and because we dont get to cup finals it is failure?!?! What total nonsense… that comment stinks of entitlement. For those of us who werent around to see the 80s, Moyes first reign was actually a very high achieving period…. Your entitled and probably moan about many things in life. Please remember that half of our fan base wasnt around half a century ago to see us win things. The league is rigged, its a billion pound entertainment industry. We did well to finish 4-7th for all those years and we did over achieve. We had Tony Hibbett, Victor Anichebe, Phil Neville, the straq and the list goes on. Some people love a glass half empty but god it must be a long hard life… we are a funny club as half of our fan base including my own father was around to see us be the best football team in the entire world. We were league champions and would have won th European cup 100% if our muderous neighbors didnt get us banned. But then another half of our fan base including me has only ever seen shite and Moyes was the best times of my life. The semi final shoot-out win against Man U was my single best day supporting Everton in my 34 years of existence. In fact nothing has ever even come close to that since… so I understand the divide and it doesnt anger me. It intrigues me… I wonder if Nottingham Forest have the same issues amongst fans expectations. Tony Abrahams 179 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:16:37 A club that won at least one major honour for every decade of their existence, except after World War Two, have suddenly not won a trophy for two and a half decades Sean, and yet you go on about self entitlement. It hasnt stopped me supporting Everton lad, and as I said the passion burns strongly in the younger Evertonians, I admire, but the Everton I know always tried to compete. My first match was in 1975, and when I finally saw Everton, win the cup nine years later it was one of the greatest days of my life, and yet my oldest son, has been going to Goodison for around 25 years, and he has seen England playing in more finals than Everton.Accept what Kenwright and Moyes conspired between them and you will probably always be happy with seventh, and over the moon with coming best of the rest, but when you have seen Everton, win league titles, it doesnt make you self entitled, if you want to see more than we have been given for thirty years, imo.I feel like I have very little in common with a lot of Evertonians, nowadays because I will never accept Everton, just being happy to make up the numbers. Im actually leaving for Goodison right now, and Ive already seen the excitement because I drove down the lancs at half one and the cars are already parked right towards the railway bridge at the end of walton hall Pk.Hopefully the sleeping giant awakes Sean, because only then will you properly understand, even if you already think you understand now💙Forest fans will just be happy to be out of the wilderness imo Sean, but winning is what certain clubs should always aspire to, honestly mate Si Cooper 180 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:20:20 I read the ‘4 maximum domestic loans regs differently to Mr Harrison. You could have 2 players in for first half of season and then two completely different ones for second half, making a maximum of 4 possible. There may be some restriction on the number of loans from places other than English / Welsh teams but I dont see that spelt out in the ‘domestic section. So basically Im still not sure if our loanee total is currently restricted solely by the rules or by PSR considerations as well. Its obvious we dont have the ability to simply cough up £40 million for Ferguson unless Brighton are willing to give us a fantastic payment scheme. I dont see why they would favour us so Id presume we are in a queue waiting to see if every other offer for him is worse than ours. Si Cooper 181 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:31:15 Nigel (177), unfortunately I find his posts the mental equivalent of chewing glass! Hopefully he will mellow.People are ‘entitled if they dont see mediocrity as success???Do you work Sean? Your bosses / colleagues / customers must have really low standards if you get a ton of praise for doing the basics. Nigel Scowen 182 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:36:03 Si@181I think they are hilarious Si. Sean Kearns 183 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:42:57 4th-7th in the prem league, we were flying Everton flags and banners all over Europe, and had a few good cup runs. Remember Dan Goslings injury time winner against the redshite in the FA cup replay…. That was more than mediocrity. Man United are currently 12th. Spurs are 15th with the best ground in the league etc. we have no right to be anywhere… with the modern day money all the cups and leagues are rigged. Some of the balls in the bowl for the FA cup draw are warmed up so the selector can keep the big teams apart. Once we bring the new stadium into play and get more eyes on us, the league may help us out more with officiating and such. It wont be a coincidence to me… we binned Marco Silva because 11th wasnt good enough, only because Moyes had set such high standards before he left!!!!!! Si Cooper 184 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:49:08 100 % with Tony.“Hopefully the sleeping giant awakes Sean, because only then will you properly understand, even if you already think you understand now💙”Sean, nobody is saying “We have an automatic right to success.” just that we can have higher aspirations. Explain why we cant have the same aspirations (not the same as expectation) as anyone else? Christine Foster 185 Posted 01/02/2025 at 14:56:31 Expectations, we all have them, most are unrealistic, many never to be realised, floundering on the rocks of Good Hope. David Moyes most likely will deliver reality in a pragmatic dose of de Javu. He may be on a return but it is not a second coming, it is a return to best of the rest if it all goes to plan. Stability. Security, Safety.Great, but it's merely a stepping stone back to were we once belonged and it's a long road.We have fallen so badly it's amazing we are still in the Premier League, that's not down to any manager, any player but 40,000 matchday fans and a million more who are so bloody minded, angry and proud, who will just not lie down and accept what others would. The club is clawing its way back, unpleasant, difficult certainly, but it's doing it on the backs of the many thousands of stubborn, determined fans who will never accept mediocrity. Better times, better teams, better memories will replace today's pain. It's definitely a long way back, but it will make the victory even sweeter. Phil Greenough 186 Posted 01/02/2025 at 15:13:56 My first match was also in 1975, and I agree with Tony's sentiments. However, I can also see Sean's point of view. His pragmatism probably kept him sane over the past 25 years. Evertonians haven't a right to win anything, even though they were successful prior to 1987.I'm sure all of the Newcastle fans are as ardent as Evertonians, and they've not won anything for years. I'm not saying you shouldn't have aspirations of winning things. Otherwise, what's the point? However, it has to be tempered with reality. I feel Sean's opinion may reflect many Evertonians, post 1990. For all of the Blues who enjoyed success, post WW2 to 1987, just remember, we wouldn't have got half of the shit from the Reds when we were at school. That in itself is enough to diminish your expectations. Steve Shave 187 Posted 01/02/2025 at 17:21:01 Lucky 4-0 win for our greedy manager who is more interested in feathering his own nest! Kenwright's fault. John Davies 188 Posted 01/02/2025 at 20:12:05 He seems like a good buy, but you never know until they tread the grass. However I like his profile, young and hopefully with something to prove. I definitely don't want Richarlison back again. Massive wages, the transfer fee will not be small either. Moyes was always good in finding players who were hungry. Let's go for it. Jon Atkinson 189 Posted 01/02/2025 at 20:26:05 Christine @185 what a post that is, weve no right to still be in the top division but we do have a bloody minded about us, un breakable spirit at our core, and we have willed wins in the past when most needed. Im minded of the Newcastle game think Lampard, they beat us, but my abiding memory of that night was getting stopped on Walton Lane by a mid 60,s lady, we start chatting EFC when a mini bus full of barcodes drives past and gives us loads of abuse - going down going down This bird is straight back at them giving as good as she got, thats Scouse spirit in droves, this club embedded in L4 and I hope like hell we take that spirit with us to the new place, because its served us well in bad times, anyone can turn up in the ahem “ Good Times “ Matt Woods 190 Posted 01/02/2025 at 21:41:07 Everton Football Club has a motto. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.I expect the custodians to live up to this and do everything to deliver success.I am 53 and have seen Everton be the best. I have vivid memories that can never be erased of totally sublime football. Once you have tasted the best nothing can satisfy your desires anymore. I greatly admire our younger fans and they are heroes as they have dug us out of recent relegation battles. There is nothing I want more than us to win something, anything for these fans. It will be the greatest of parties and it will happen. Believe. Its early days but I believe the new owners have massive ambition. They quickly and decisively removed Dyche and brought in Moyes. By all accounts they made it very clear they expect much better results playing attacking football. Having seriously competitive owners is something new for David Moyes as Everton manger. If he wants to succeed he must break from his cautious instincts. Moyes has always been able to identify a player and has at times produced attractive teams. This is likely his last chance to make it big.Don't lose your bottle Davey take this opportunity and deliver paradise, a trophy with us brings immortality. Tony Abrahams 191 Posted 01/02/2025 at 22:31:23 Very good post Matt. I have been telling every very happy Evertonian, who I have spoken to tonight, to shut their eyes and imagine us winning the cup at Wembley in may.It looks like Liverpool are going to win the league, and even though they now have a world wide fanbase and have a lot of the media in their pocket, if Everton were to win the cup, our celebrations would put theres to shame, so please take the cup very seriously David, and the fans will do the rest🤞 Matt Woods 192 Posted 02/02/2025 at 00:31:28 Yes Tony anything is possible now. Believe. "We're on the march with Davey's army!" Mike Gaynes 193 Posted 02/02/2025 at 01:49:09 Tony, not yet. I'm holding my dreams for the moment. We're one of 32.Beat Bournemouth next weekend and I'll allow my imagination to go where yours has already gone. Bob Parrington 194 Posted 02/02/2025 at 02:11:15 Steve@187. This made me laugh. THX. There's a comedian in you somewhere! Steve Shave 195 Posted 02/02/2025 at 07:50:26 Matt @190 good post and also yours Christine. Matt I agree with your comments that Moyes has never worked for ambitious owners before at Everton. Some would argue that had he been able to the first time we would have kicked on and become a regular fixture in Europe. Its not been mentioned enough on here, especially amidst the anti-Moyes vitriol, that this is Moyes mkII and he comes with a lot more experience, to a completely different club with different owners. He has the platform, the summer rebuild is absolutely crucial. To Thelwell or not to Thelwell? That is the question. Rob Jones 196 Posted 02/02/2025 at 13:08:21 Don, for the love of fuck, please get a new line of attack. Every manager employed after Moyes has also been paid very handsomely, and achieved the "square root of fuck all", and indeed, have done less than Moyes.Move on. Did he kill your puppy or something? Kevin Molloy 197 Posted 02/02/2025 at 13:15:19 Liverpool will play their second string in the cup, with the derby a few days later. I reckon we will do the same. Stan Grace 198 Posted 02/02/2025 at 13:30:33 True about the other managers Rob #196, but none of them got close to having 11 years to not win a trophy. Ray Roche 199 Posted 02/02/2025 at 13:33:44 To be fair Stan, how many of them got close to winning a trophy either?Erm….. Paul Kossoff 200 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:18:10 Flamengo can confirm the departure of Carlos Alcaraz to Everton Football Club on loan.Apparently we are in for Tom Watson from Sunderland.According to The Boot Room, Everton are now battling to sign Tom Watson from Sunderland after Brighton & Hove Albion saw a reported £2m offer turned down by the Black Cats.Still just 18 years old, the winger is one for the future and one who could yet spark Everton's attack into life for years to come. As the deadline approaches and Sunderland battle to keep hold of the teenager, Everton could yet come swooping in. Edward Rogers 201 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:27:15 Are we only signing tennis players and golfers now?? Stan Grace 202 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:35:06 Fair point Ray, but you can't deny that Moyes never really looked like doing it in all those years. This time around he does look a little more willing to take risks, at least for the moment. Rob Jones 203 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:35:57 Stan, it just strikes me as odd, that's all. The eleven years line has rather less bite when every other manager in post over the past eleven years have done a worse job, hence their removal.People whinge that:- he stayed for 11 years and won nothing (who else on our range of net transfer spend won anything?),- he left us on the sly and cost us compensation (and yet they also wanted him gone?),- he took a decent wage from the club for years (he was an employee, was he supposed to work for free?).I'd rather we focused on the now, rather than having this seemingly endless group therapy session where people bleat about the past. Instead, people are using the same attack lines they have for fifteen years, when we've since had other managers, all of whom have been paid very handsomely, all of whom have subsequently done a much worse job (possible exception of Carlo, until he couldn't be arsed anymore - and who can blame him after the home invasion), and whose squad management have steadily eroded us to the point where we've been forced to hire David Moyes out of sheer pragmatism. Stan Grace 204 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:40:18 No bleating from me, Rob. I just don't have many fond memories of his previous time as manager. Ray Roche 205 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:54:18 Stan@202Stan, in the FA Cup Final v Chelsea it would have been interesting to see how we would have fared with Yakubu, Arteta and Jagielka in the side, all of whom were missing in the game. Thats the spine of the team, all out. And furthermore, if the idiot of a referee hadnt booked Hibbert after 7or 8 minutes leaving him shit scared to make a tackle, we might not have been so vulnerable down our right where they caused us all the problems. Bit of a hobby horse of mine but its easy to say we were never close to a trophy when, without fates intervention, we might have won it. Mike Gaynes 206 Posted 02/02/2025 at 14:57:06 The Daily Mail have us in for Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert, 23, who played for France at the Olympics. Tony Abrahams 207 Posted 02/02/2025 at 19:48:36 I should watch that cup final again one day Ray because I thought the biggest problem was that in the first half Fellaini, who was the midfielder playing furthest forward, never helped Osman and Hibbert, and this made it very easy for Chelsea to get out and overload us down our right, but when Timmy Cahill played in the advanced role, during the second half, our half time substitute, never really got threatened during the second period.I never blamed Moyes for that defeat, but I have always thought that he wouldnt have lasted more than two seasons during any other era in our history.Even clubs like West Ham have changed now because after delivering their first trophy in 43 years, which was massive for a club that havent got much of an honours list, even they decided to get rid of David Moyes.Hes a wiser, calmer and more experienced manager now and possibly realises how lucky he was to work for Bill Kenwright, when you look at Everton, before and after Davids first appointment, because he will surely realise that no other manager got given so long, and this only happened because his professionalism, kept the fans away from hounding Kenwright, out of the club.Fast forward to now and hopefully the man has changed and more than anything else, he wants to deliver silverware to Evertonians, because this is a lot more important than coming 5/6or7th🤞 John Graham 208 Posted 02/02/2025 at 21:12:47 Looks like Chukwuemeka is off to Dortmund so that's not going to happen. Ray Roche 209 Posted 02/02/2025 at 21:32:25 Good post Tony, I havent watched that Final since. I was there though, and gutted because I thought we might win but it wasnt to be.Yes, Moyes will be more experienced now and hopefully less cautious, maybe if hes kept on beyond this season and with a proper transfer budget he might bring a trophy to BMD. Steve Shave 210 Posted 02/02/2025 at 21:36:24 Why is it all so bloody slow and frustrating when it comes to us?!! The only business we ever did swiftly was the shit, overpriced deals we struck under the Walsh/Koeman clusterfuck. Ernie Baywood 211 Posted 02/02/2025 at 21:50:51 That might be the answer, Steve. You pay a premium to do it early. Or you sign players with no other options (but why would we take them early when we still have options?).We're trying to pick up those who have missed the boat and need a life raft. I reckon it's going to go to the last few hours. Danny O'Neill 212 Posted 02/02/2025 at 21:53:24 This is it. We want to challenge for success and trophies 🏆 On the 2009 final, I was worried about scoring early against Chelsea.I remember Osman and Hibbert being given a torrid time. But what stuck out was Lescott giving a player of Drogba's calibre too much space and a free run to put a thumping header into the back of our goal. The 2-1 scoreline suggests that, on paper, it was close. I don't think it was, but Chelsea were a top side at the time. Andrew Merrick 213 Posted 02/02/2025 at 22:05:23 2009 cup run was great, two trips to Wembley, beat utd, scored one of the fastest ever cup goals, I had a lot to tell me ma about Good times eh! Andy McNabb 214 Posted 03/02/2025 at 01:18:24 Maybe I'm wrong but I understood Hibbert was not fully fit for the game?It was the last time we stayed up to watch the FA Cup Final but from here in Aus, it certainly looked like Tony had been targeted and was running in sand. John Graham 215 Posted 04/02/2025 at 12:13:39 Hope that he's better than what I've seen on utube. Plenty of energy and seems to put the effort in but has a poor first touch and never seems to be fully in control of the ball. Also when running with the ball it's always too far ahead of him, making it easy for him to be dispossessed. Good thing is he's only young so if we can calm him down there might be a player in there somewhere. Brian Williams 216 Posted 04/02/2025 at 12:21:11 John#215John I have to say, after just watching his skills on youtube myself, I just cannot believe your post!Interested to see what others think! Liam Mogan 217 Posted 04/02/2025 at 12:31:54 I've watched YouTube also. His first touch does seem to bounce up and off him at times? But that's only a few clips. His running with ball seems good though and he commits defenders.Hopefully he'll prove a decent addition Bill Gall 218 Posted 04/02/2025 at 13:41:05 Well just glad all the hype is over and not surprised that we only brought in the 1 player. it seems that the director of football Thelwell was doing most of the work and I suppose that was what hiis title is for.The Friedkin group have been owners now for a couple of months so isn't it time to get the hierarchy sorted out with a new CEO and Board in place plus it is Everton's new stadium what is it going to be called. Si Cooper 219 Posted 05/02/2025 at 01:38:26 He had learned his script well for his welcome video so hopefully that indicates intelligence and self-belief.Id been happy with Mangalas performances overall so hoping for as good as, if not better, from Charly (although hes significantly younger so Id not be surprised if he were rawer too.Obviously still a work in progress, but I do think the general trend for our midfield quality has been on the up.Age has to catch up to a couple of them pretty soon so we need up and comers to come in and grow up by then or before.
