Season › 2024-25 › News Transfer Deadline Day Lyndon Lloyd 03/02/2025 28comments | Jump to last Everton have once again taken their winter window shopping to the final day, with David Moyes and Kevin Thelwell still hopeful of adding at least one more name beyond expected arrival Carlos Alcaraz. The former Southampton player was on Merseyside yesterday to undergo a medical ahead of a loan move from Flamengo in Brazil, a deal that includes an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met over the remainder of the season. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja expected to be sidelined until April and Youssef Chermiti still three or four weeks away from full fitness, Moyes is on the lookout for another centre-forward at the very least. However, with no deal struck with Chelsea over ending Broja's loan, the Blues have no more domestic loan spots available, unless a rumour suggesting that Fulham are eyeing Jack Harrison has any legs. Harrison is out of favour at Goodison Park but still has six months left on his loan deal from Leeds. Frank Wolfe 2 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:00:07 Everton will always give you enough drama in your life Mike (1) :-) Colin Crooks 3 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:15:58 Could be a long day. I'll be giving Sky a miss until later tonight. Any transfer news will keep until then Jimmy Digney 4 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:19:59 If we can pull the Argentian out of nowhere just maybe there are a couple of players in the pipeline I say this more with hope than with confidence. Just maybe the Friedkins have an eye on the South American market, I cant believe thelwell all of a sudden is scouring that region. Derek Thomas 5 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:30:27 Luckily for me the business end takes place over night, I can get up and watch the last hour live...though all our deals will be in the last 10 mins.My transfer window bingo card has a power play bonus box..."We were just going to sign...Fabulous Player 'X'... but we missed the deadline by 5mins" Shades of Homer's Tax Form. Paul Hewitt 6 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:45:38 I think the last three results have made relegation probably something we don't have to worry about now, so the need for new players at the moment isn't a major problem. Apart from this Alcaraz lad, I don't see anyone else coming in. Let's save the money for the summer when we have a major rebuild. Paul Ferry 7 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:55:13 Fuck I agree with Hewey (6) Paul Hewitt 8 Posted 03/02/2025 at 06:58:03 I always said you'd come round to my way of thinking PF 😄 Nigel Scowen 9 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:00:07 Paul@6Not even another forward as cover for Beto Paul, yes you heard that right, cover for Beto 🙌👏🙌👏 Paul Ferry 10 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:04:56 Have a good day PH Matt Traynor 11 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:05:09 Well, unlike deadline days of old - Peter Odemwingie driving down to park outside QPR's ground; Harry Redknapp giving up-to-date info out of his car window; fax machines breaking down; and reporters getting a purple dildo in the ear outside Finch Farm... we can probably put the bingo cards away. Paul Ferry 12 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:20:11 Matt, 11, this was the worst of all - "Harry Redknapp giving up-to-date info out of his car window". Mike Gaynes 13 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:21:17 Please tell me they still use those fax machines, Matt. Id hate to believe that all of our most cherished traditions have been swallowed up by modern technology. Paul Ferry 14 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:21:49 Hilarious Steve Shave 15 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:31:13 It's going to be an interesting day with most people doing their business late I think. It's been the quietest window I can remember. I agree with Paul, these 3 wins on the bounce have made it less of an urgency. That said it would be great to buy one or two who are part of a wider, forward thinking plan for the future. Players who can be involved now and with potential for real growth ala Tom Fellows or Tom Watson.I can't see us shipping DCL unless someone like the barcodes come in with an offer of £7-8M, even though he is injured it might be worth the risk for a PL club as he is almost certainly holding out for a foreign move for free in the summer, well that's my theory anyway. If this happens it will only be because we have another striker lined up.The French left back looks good, that would be a kick in the teeth for Myko but frankly its an area we need to strengthen desperately. The question on my lips is if we keep the powder dry mostly for the Summer, is there going to be enough funds available for such wholesale change that is required and who is going to be doing the buying? Moyes? Thelwell? Weir? So many variables let's hope TFG have a well thought out plan. Colin Glassar 16 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:31:48 I think our legendary fax machine will be having a very slow day today. Probably doesnt have any paper in it anyway. Paul Ferry 17 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:37:16 Colin, did I just see Riquelme on Princes Street? Colin Glassar 18 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:44:20 He was last seen on Water St alongside Moutinho, Paul. Apparently, trying to find a decent kebab to eat. Nigel Scowen 19 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:44:46 Just to make us feel even better, the current run rates for those below us to season end:Wolves 30Leicester 27Ipswich 25Solon 14So as Paul Hewitt says there is an argument for holding off until the summer when business will be easier. Ian Bennett 20 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:47:32 True, but if we can get any targets this window, it will reduce the bedding in period for next season.13 or so out of contract players and a new stadium, could make it a tricky start. Nigel Scowen 21 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:49:01 Also true Ian Ernie Baywood 22 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:51:26 The threat of relegation is surely gone? Therefore it's hopefully loan deals that can help us this season, or signings that have some kind of medium term view (ie next season at least).I'll guess we'll make a couple of loan deals (if we can) to bolster numbers and one permanent who can improve on what we've got. Mind you we have to spend eventually - otherwise we won't have a team next season.DCL will be an interesting one. Pre-injury I was 80% sure he'd go for some amount of money. But now? His injury has really cast a shadow over any deal. There's every chance his next club simply offers him more money (he'll be negotiating concurrently and he's allowed to) to complete his rehab with us, take a long rest, and join them refreshed in July. Mike Gaynes 23 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:51:44 Steve 15, its going to be a really unique situation in the summer. Can you ever remember a top level club going through such a complete transformation? New ownership, new stadium, new manager, likely new CEO and DOF, and almost half the roster turning over?I cannot recall a situation quite like this. What a crazy exciting time thats gonna be.As for this window, yes, the three wins and the return of the injured certainly seem to have drained some of the urgency. But we still have only one healthy striker for the next month, and none apparently on the way. Interesting question of who would replace Beto if something happened. Paul Ferry 24 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:52:01 I used to work in Water St Col back in the luncheon voucher - Reeces - days at The Official Receivers in Bankruptcy at the time when the ORB moved to Barratt House North John St. So, no longer could I enjoy India Building at lunch time but there was a boss Reeces in Lord St and we were round the corner from Erics. Paul Ferry 25 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:52:54 What is a roster? Mark Murphy 26 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:55:58 Its what you cook a chicken on in France. You can also rostbif on it Paul Ferry 27 Posted 03/02/2025 at 07:56:48 A rooster? Ernie Baywood 28 Posted 03/02/2025 at 08:00:42 Mike 23 - it probably won't be nearly as transformational as the numbers make it sound. Of the 12:- 4 are loanees. 2 of them out for the season anyway.- 2 are reserve keepers - Gueye may get an extension. Lord knows his current form deserves it.- DCL will go - The others are Doucoure, Keane, Young, Coleman. Only one of them currently plays.
