Season › 2024-25 › News We’ve got to enjoy this now - Jarrad Branthwaite discusses building momentum in the league Anjishnu Roy 18/02/2025 10comments | Jump to last Confidence is soaring through Finch Farm right now as Jarrad Branthwaite reveals how Everton’s run of form is allowing the players to enjoy themselves. The team has worked extensively on the offensive side of the game and goals have been easier to come by under David Moyes compared to the dry spells during Sean Dyche's tenure. The Blues are unbeaten in their last five games and have scored 12 goals over that period. A 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park was their fourth victory in six league games since Moyes took charge in January. “It's a brilliant feeling,” he said after the weekend’s win. “I'm just buzzing we got the result. Obviously, we didn't play our best but if you can win games when you're not playing your best, it's a good sign. “I think it shows the momentum we're building as a team, and I think we've just got to keep grounded and keep working hard every day and listen to the manager and see where that takes us.” The Toffees have also defeated Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City while holding city rivals Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in a Merseyside derby thriller. The positive upturn in results has also seen them move well clear of the relegation zone, something that had been a serious threat under Dyche. “Everyone's confident. We've had tough spells over the season. I think we've got to enjoy this now, but we've got to remember how it feels. “We've got to keep wanting that feeling after every game, so I think that means working hard every day on the training pitch to give ourselves the best possible chance with every game that comes,” added the 22-year-old. While Branthwaite has been a rock at the back along with his partner-in-crime James Tarkowski, developing the Blues’ offensive capabilities has been the biggest development in Moyes’ second spell in charge so far. Goals have come by the dozen and the difference in style of play compared to Dyche’s tenure has been night and day. Touching on the subject, Branthwaite said, “I think before he came in, we had that defensive resilience, the structure and I think he's maybe brought in the bit of attacking flair and attacking knowledge. “Everyone knows the positions to be in and we're creating loads more chances. We're working on different positions for the attackers and different runs to make to open the defence and I think you can see it's working. The more times we get the ball in the box as well; we've got a bigger chance of scoring. I think that's something we've been focusing on – to put it in dangerous areas and see what comes from it. We're doing well so far, so let's hope it continues." Reader Comments (10) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Can't remember winning too many early kick offs of late, where we get to enjoy the footy over the rest of the weekend. Also on another subject there is a decent series started a few weeks back on BBC 1 of a Saturday evening called match of the day, its fooking great 👍 🤣 Les Callan 2 Posted 18/02/2025 at 23:25:21 Our new owners still have us at a 3pm on Sat. Les Callan 3 Posted 18/02/2025 at 23:36:55 And whats more, the league table still hasnt been updated. Ben King 4 Posted 18/02/2025 at 23:48:33 Definitely feels like the momentum has shifted doesnt it Finally it feels good to be a Blue! Don Alexander 5 Posted 18/02/2025 at 23:51:48 The written tone of our new owners (and owners they are) is, not through any fault of their own maybe, far too corporate for my taste, especially after the blue-blooded boldness of our former owners. And Jarrad comes across as a 22 year-old saying just what I'd expect from a professional player looking to better himself at the start of a very, very promising career. Paul Conway 6 Posted 18/02/2025 at 23:53:16 Just stay and be part of it! A once in a lifetime chance to Baptise the turf, where, legends will be Born. Things are happening now, the tide is on the turn. Our luck has changed.. « Fortune Favours the Brave! »Who would have thought, only a month ago, that Beto and Jake O Brian would become almost undropable. The way that Alcaraz has slipped seamlessly into the Starting eleven, after barely a handful of games is another uptick.I have a feeling that hes got a lot more to offer. Don Alexander 7 Posted 19/02/2025 at 01:25:44 Me Ma, aged 101, is scouse to the core (I'm 70, born a scouser), not interested in football throughout her life. She was stupid enough at 31 to marry a Glaswegian Protestant who at risk to his life decided as a boy not to support Rangers in favour of Celtic. He was the only one in my extensive Protestant Scottish family to do so (and they still affectionately remind me of this 20 years after his death, but they cherished him regardless). As a boy I asked him why. He told me it was because when he was growing up Celtic played the more attractive football - and he was also a very talented footballer to say the least.Meeting me Ma in 1954 and moving to Liverpool he took keen interest in both clubs but was quickly won over by us Blues for the same reason he supported Celtic, and I cherish his and my choice thereafter despite the decades-long ineptitude of those at the top since Sir John owned us. "Once a Blue, always a Blue" will adorn a blue wreath at my funeral according to our Blue son. Delightful to me (but the wife is still perplexed!)I just hope we win a notable trophy beforehand and will to my dying day despise every owner/chairman since Sir John for failing, bar four mere (encouraging) seasons in the mid 80's, to deliver any vestige of something to celebrate. Bob Parrington 8 Posted 19/02/2025 at 11:40:09 Wow Don, 101 not out is incredible. Special congratulations to your Ma.I've been a blue since I was 5, now just coming up to 77 in June. Living now in Adelaide, Australia and (fortunately) currently on holiday playing golf in Phuket with my wife (77) I am looking forward to hopefully watching a game at BMD later this year. Where we're staying they are showing the game with Man Utd in the bar on SaturdayAnyhow and back to the point, "once a blue, always a blue" struck me once more and, when I go to ground I would also like that the be in/on any epitaph. So, thanks, because it is a true statement that we Evertonians should always remember Tony Abrahams 9 Posted 19/02/2025 at 12:08:16 Playing golf in Phuket, Bob, what a life!! Bob Parrington 10 Posted 20/02/2025 at 11:35:16 It's pretty good Tony. Meet all kinds here. Of course, there's always the odd RS around but they know nothing about football, other than the name. Met a Villa fan today, who was really positive about Everton's recovery. Of course, he was delighted with the draw against the RS last night. Only occasionally meet a blues fan but it is great when we do.Started the first round (of 4) yesterday pretty badly but recovered in the back 9. We were paired with a guy from California and his girlfriend 🤫. Makes it interesting for an old man like me ??????
