Season › 2024-25 › News “Biggest game of the season” - Moyes drums up final Goodison fixture Anjishnu Roy 13/05/2025 0comments | Jump to last Everton will host Southampton in a historic fixture that is set to be the final chapter in Goodison Park’s 133-year storied legacy. Following the clash on Sunday, the Blues’ penultimate fixture of the current campaign, they will move to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. Naturally, it is going to be an emotional afternoon for everyone associated with this rich and glorious institution. When asked if anything other than victory was acceptable, Moyes replied without hesitation, “No, I won't, because I've told the players it's maybe the biggest game of the season for us next weekend. “And we're going to be watched by great players, great managers possibly. People who are far better than any of us, who have graced it. So we've got to put a show on and we've got to try and show that we can play well. Moyes will be looking to capitalise on momentum after Everton beat Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage last Saturday. Despite going a goal down, goals from Mykolenko, Keane, and Beto helped the Blues make a comeback to beat the hosts and secure their first win since April 12. “Sentiment, will it come into it, I don't know. But obviously getting the three points is important. (Fulham) was a big result for us because it gives us a chance to think about what we can do next week. But we'll go into it trying to make sure that we win. We want to try and finish the top of the bottom pile if we can.” This is Moyes’ second spell in charge after managing Everton for over a decade between 2002 and 2013. “It will be emotional. I think it will be more because there's so much in the community there, they're part of the community as well. It's a brilliant old lady of a stadium. And because of that, it will be missed. "But I've been at clubs where you've moved to a new stadium and you have to try and make it your home. "And you have to find a way that our new stadium will become the new Goodison in many ways.” Reader Comments Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission.
