Season › 2024-25 › News The Rumour Mill Everton seem unlikely to go back for Tom Cannon Michael Kenrick | 15/01/2025 28comments | Jump to last A strange one that seems highly dubious is the report that Everton are interested in re-signing Tom Cannon from Leicester City. The former Everton Academy striker enjoyed a prolific first half of the season on loan with Championship side Stoke City, and there is supposedly an opportunity to bring him back after his loan spell has been brought to a premature end ahead of potentially leaving the King Power Stadium on a permanent basis. Some sources claim that Everton have held talks over making a move for Cannon within the last 24 hours, but Sheffield United are confident they have emerged as the frontrunners and – along with Sunderland – want to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy for in excess of £10million if they earn promotion. The connection to Everton seems highly spurious and Alan Meyers has reported there is no substance to it. Disclaimer () Dave Lynch 1 Posted 15/01/2025 at 16:56:26 Just seen on Everton news feed we are in for Tom Cannon. It may be bollocks but if it's not ffs do we ever learn Mike Gaynes 2 Posted 15/01/2025 at 17:02:22 Dave, Moshiri needed the £7.5M we got for Cannon. See what new ownership can do for you? Brian Williams 3 Posted 15/01/2025 at 17:13:05 The club is not in for Tom Cannon.Ffs, stop believing the first, and every thing you read.Having said that I'm selling 24ct gold for the price of 9ct.Form a queue you gullible lot! Derek Knox 4 Posted 15/01/2025 at 17:18:12 Brian W, you hoping someone will take the carat ? :-) Jay Evans 5 Posted 15/01/2025 at 17:21:02 Take no notice of the Tom Cannon story.Have a look who his agent is FFS. Kevin Molloy 6 Posted 15/01/2025 at 18:35:32 Alan Myers has just confirmed there is nothing to the Cannon rumours, so this could well be on. Robert Tressell 7 Posted 15/01/2025 at 21:37:06 Good headline for a completely made up rumour. Mick O'Malley 8 Posted 15/01/2025 at 21:39:57 Like it, Derek, he's done okay on loan at Stoke. They are hardly setting the world on fire so he's done well getting 11.But I'm not having this, obviously nonsense. Jim Bennings 9 Posted 15/01/2025 at 21:49:54 Anyone is an upgrade on Calvert-Lewin. Phil Bickerstaff 10 Posted 16/01/2025 at 11:31:46 No good for Everton he scores goals!!!!In the championship you sayI say bollocksIf you know where to be on a football pitch you score goalsBetter than DCL, Beto &chemiti He is a typical no9 Chemiti cost £15 million and done zilchTommy cost nowt Ian Pilkington 11 Posted 16/01/2025 at 12:30:40 I read this on BBC gossip last night. No mention that we actually sold him to Leicester for £7M.He is now allegedly valued at £10M.Even by todays standards of dreadful journalism this report is total rubbish. Robert Williams 12 Posted 16/01/2025 at 16:50:50 Where have I seen that saying 'Never Go Back'? Annika Herbert 13 Posted 17/01/2025 at 07:15:03 Paul @ 10, thankfully you aren't part of the scouting team!Chermiti has barely kicked a ball in anger for the first team so I am not sure on what basis you have decided Cannon is the better player? Paul Hewitt 14 Posted 17/01/2025 at 08:42:58 Tom Cannon might not be the answer. But I'm pretty sure he wouldn't go 17 games without a goal. And the late chance Dom missed the other night would have been in the onion bag. Christopher Timmins 15 Posted 17/01/2025 at 09:13:11 Leicester are not going to do us any favours even if we were interested in the boy. We moved him on and purchased Beto. The boy from Portugal has been written off way too soon in my view; when he gets back to full fitness, he may make a contribution. Rob Halligan 16 Posted 17/01/2025 at 09:17:27 Looks like Erling Haaland is off the radar as well. He just signed a contract extension with Man City until 2034! Dave Abrahams 17 Posted 17/01/2025 at 10:07:37 One story is that Everton have a clause in Tom Cannon's sale to Leicester in which we get 25% of any profit made by Leicester if he is sold on. I think that maybe is the only interest in this story. John Raftery 18 Posted 17/01/2025 at 10:15:33 Rob (16),One for the future?! Brian Williams 19 Posted 17/01/2025 at 10:17:37 Rob #16,Don't worry, mate, Moyes will soon endear himself even more to the faithful when he persuades Calvert-Lewin to pen a new contract. Rob Halligan 20 Posted 17/01/2025 at 10:22:27 John, I reckon he will be at Real Madrid within 2-3 years. Going to cost someone a hefty wedge to buy him though, because Man City have removed any release clause from his contract. Colin Crooks 21 Posted 17/01/2025 at 10:30:13 Brian @19,Subtle and very funny. They won't like that. I see much frothing and gnashing of teeth. That Sandra Bullock has no idea what she is missing out on. Brian Williams 22 Posted 17/01/2025 at 11:02:45 Thanks Colin. I try my best. :-) Derek Knox 23 Posted 17/01/2025 at 11:41:53 Colin @ 21, "I see much frothing and gnashing of teeth."Stop looking in the mirror then! :-) Danny Baily 24 Posted 17/01/2025 at 12:35:56 He's quick, can carry the ball, can finish and can jump. We shouldn't have let him go in the first place. Given his goalscoring record in the Championship, this is a Yes from me. Billy Shears 25 Posted 17/01/2025 at 17:42:23 If Adkins won't play young Josh Williams at Tranmere then we'll have him!Would improve our lacklustre Midfield instantly!!The finest young player that I've seen in the last decade of watching footy!!! Jimmy Digney 26 Posted 19/01/2025 at 09:10:35 Another top-notch youngster off the production line (not). Ellis Simms, Tom Davies…People with knee-jerk responses to a non-firing forward line, I can understand… but the said players were never the answer. Soren Moyer 27 Posted 20/01/2025 at 18:47:55 On his way to Sheffield U. That's his level TBH! Phil Roberts 28 Posted 23/01/2025 at 15:44:47 Maybe we could sign Lewis Dobbin from Villa.Another prolific striker we should have kept. 🤔 Add Your Comments In order to post a comment, you need to be logged in as a registered user of the site. » Log in now Or Sign up as a ToffeeWeb Member — it's free, takes just a few minutes and will allow you to post your comments on articles and Talking Points submissions across the site.
