Ward-Prowse, 31, set to reenergize Everton midfield?

It seems unlikely that 31-year-old James Ward-Prowse could be the catalyst to reenergize the Everton midfield come January, but that is what some sources are expecting us to believe.

Apparently an ex-Hammers insider with his/her finger on the pulse has said:

“Although Ward-Prowse has been pretty much banished from the first team since Nuno arrived, there has been no fallout between the pair. Nuno wants pace and energy in his midfield and Ward-Prowse just doesn’t fit that profile. Which means he is highly likely at this stage to leave in the New Year.

“His former club, Southampton, where he was captain, are prepared to take him back. We also understand that David Moyes has shown interest in possibly taking him up to Everton.”

The idea that a player whom Nuno has overlooked because he wants pace and energy in midfield would be of benefit to Everton seems at best far-fetched... but that's what all these online betting houses are salivating over, so find some good odds on this now and get your stake on!

I wasn't aware that our midfield needed re-energising.

Can he play up top?

Not what we need really.

It's another body, but we need a right-back or wide right player.

I like reading about our club, but this doesn't really fit for me.

When he left the Saints, he never looked like moving far from the South Coast and I can't see that being any different now, unless some fool throws mega bucks at him; I can't think where that might be...

If he puts Garner at right-back for the rest of the season, then Ward-Prowse is another body for midfield.

At a low cost most possibly, and a decent full back may not be available come January. It would have been better 5 years ago. Gives us a free-kick specialist at least.

He was at his best over 4 years ago.

Now seriously less than half the player he used to be.

We have younger midfielders that can be used.

He can't get a game at the moment because his current manager isn't an idiot and realises that the fact he lacks pace and energy makes him a luxury player.

How could he possibly re-energise our midfield? Better off just giving McNeil the game time.

It would be great if we could bring him in for free kicks, like an NFL kicker.

But we can't, so it's a no from me.

Joke, surely? The last thing we need is another central midfielder, not least one who is in his twilight playing years.

Nor is a right-winger one of our top priorities Ian (2).

We have three top needs, I believe: striker (critical), right-back (critical), left-back (could do without, but...)

After one very poor window, we can only hope that the now fully assembled ace TFG recruitment team that Mr Gaynes goes on and on about might have a good window that actually meets our pressing needs, unlike the last one.

Let's hope so.

The only one going on... and on... and on... and on... and on...

The repetitiveness of Mr Griffith's posts are a better cure for insomnia than Ambien and Antica put together.

We need a striker and a right-back. Whoa. Stop the presses!

Cutting-edge stuff right there. Can't wait for the next burst of corn-fed incisiveness from the gentleman who insists the new owner of ToffeeWeb is Mr Roy.

Big No to Ward-Prowse. The only West Ham player I'd go near would be Bowen.

I think we do need to add to central midfield but not Ward-Prowse thanks.

I remember him being deadly with free kicks when in goal range but he has dropped off the radar recently.
In open play, I have no Idea if he is useful or not so I'll pass on that.

Michael, I think something about our next game against Man Utd might liven the site up, the other current topics have died a death.

Mike #10 in fairness "Mr" Griffiths" has only posted once in this thread on this issue. I see the post as a response to the comment piece which addresses (and argues against) the possibility of Ward-Prowse being signed. Reasonable to comment on the comment piece, if only in support of it.

Brent, I wish you were correct. However, Paul Griffiths has put four posts on this thread alone in his efforts to goad Mike Gaynes into a fight, three of which have been deleted.

I know some readers love nothing better than a good spat but others have expressed the opposite view, that petty point-scoring is not something they want to read on here.

Let's just talk about the football, although I have to admit Ward-Prowse would not be my topic of choice.

Waaaaayyyy past his sell by date IMO.

What we need is a striker and a manager who knows how to utilise the talent we have already.

Well said at last Michael and about time. I’m against “editing” or “censorship” in general but sometimes enough is enough and I know I’m not the only one who was sick and tired of that particular “spat”.

Murph, I've been sick of his baiting for near 15 years. Most of the time I ignore it, but once in a while I do have to have some fun with it.

Michael, thanks for your policing work. Makes life much more pleasant.

Regarding JWP, even three years ago I'd have been jumping up and down on the dining room table. But our priorities now need to be youth and pace.

15 years? Fifteen?? Christ, that’s mad!
