Not knowing our penalty, maybe I should be okay with a result for them here. Dale Self 3 Posted 27/10/2023 at 20:30:15 I missed it but touched nonetheless. Spurs look a bit flat. Ange isn't tweaking it much and probably expects to just overpower Palace. Paul Ferry 4 Posted 27/10/2023 at 20:38:58 Maddison not really in it so far, Son not getting much of the ball; Richarlison moping and surly; Palace short up front but strong at the back – could be a 1-1. Dale Self 5 Posted 27/10/2023 at 20:52:52 It looked like Ange was doing that 3-1-6 or at least working up to it with Maddison coming deep or wide of the 3. He didn't really start rotating players until 30 minutes. Richarlison made three really good passes into or in the box early but no smart runs onto them. Dave Abrahams 6 Posted 27/10/2023 at 20:59:32 Some very tasty fouls up to now including what looked like a rugby tackle on Maddison but no bookings in this derby game. Paul Ferry 7 Posted 27/10/2023 at 21:07:51 I hope Rob H did not hear Carragher saying that moving from us to Spurrs was a "step up". Mark Murphy 8 Posted 27/10/2023 at 21:08:38 Mate of mine thinks we had their pants down with Richarlison. I said we'd take him back in a heartbeat! UTFT Dale Self 9 Posted 27/10/2023 at 21:16:55 Both of which are true. Dale Self 10 Posted 27/10/2023 at 21:26:41 Maddison was brilliant with his use of body. Well worked goal. Fuckers. Paul Ferry 11 Posted 27/10/2023 at 21:30:12 Great crossfield pass, fabulous from Maddison, lovely touch from Johnson.I can see Richarlison slipping down the pecking order here, poor fella… Barry Hesketh 12 Posted 28/10/2023 at 09:31:28 Dave @ 6,I too thought there were more than a few tasty challenges in that game, but the first yellow card didn't arrive until the 99th minute of the match. That's two matches I've watched this week where I believed there should have been far more yellow cards awarded. I suppose Everton will make up for the deficit,in tomorrow's game. Dave Abrahams 13 Posted 28/10/2023 at 12:40:43 Barry (12), Yes, all most fans want is consistency from referees in their decisions but it never happens, even in the one game, the same offence is treated differently depending on which team commits the foul. There should be a coming together of clubs and the referees' organisation to sort things out, we've known this for years but everything stays the same, it's down to the clubs to sort this unholy difference out. Dale Self 14 Posted 28/10/2023 at 12:58:45 Right on schedule, ref denies what looked like an obvious shove in the back. Maybe Sterling went over too easily but that was illegal contact to the back. Still 0-0. Dale Self 15 Posted 28/10/2023 at 13:51:06 Old school cross by Mbuema to an onrushing CB for a crushing header inside the post. Poch has a problem that Frank just exposed. 0-1 Bees. Yay for John Hood. Michael Kenrick 16 Posted 28/10/2023 at 13:52:07 Bizzare Premier League moment, courtesy of Neal Maupay:Chelsea about to take a free kick by the left touchline. Maupay on the bench but skipping along the touchline, warming up as he skips on and off the pitch…Maupay then actually touches the stationary ball awaiting the free-kick, clipping it with his foot!!Referee immediately books Maupay, who continues his warm-up routine, ducking and weaving along the touchline. Rob Halligan 17 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:03:44 Great finish to the Australia v New Zealand in the cricket World Cup. Australia winning it on the last ball, or rather New Zealand losing it as they needed a six off the last ball. Dale Self 18 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:14:14 Michael, the grin on Maupay's face suggests Bees knew they could mess with Chelesea's head. Chelsea are out of ideas at the Bridge. Paul Hewitt 19 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:17:19 That's 3 defeats in a row for Rooney. He won't be at Birmingham for long. Dale Self 20 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:26:23 Beesutiful! 0-2 Michael Kenrick 21 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:29:52 And a classic runaway goal scored for Brentford with the Chelsea goalie stranded upfield for a late corner. Made me smile. Although it looked all the way like Maupay would score it but he was massively unselfish as Sanchez was nibbling his heels, and the Everton man spurned the glory of scoring, setting up Mbuemo for a tap-in. Phil Sammon 22 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:31:13 Andy Townsend saying it's a dreadful goal to concede. If the keeper goes forward you need people covering him. Erm, Andy, the whole point is that you are throwing everyone forward for the possibility of a draw because losing 1-0 and losing 2-0 is essentially the same thing. What a clown. Dale Self 23 Posted 28/10/2023 at 14:40:40 That was a lovely ambience coming from the stands at the Bridge. The coverage just let it be for a considerable amount of TV time. Alan McGuffog 24 Posted 28/10/2023 at 15:13:54 Rooney, bless him, doesn't seem to have much of a clue as a manager. Wonder where he'll end up… 🤷â€â™‚ï¸ Joe McMahon 25 Posted 28/10/2023 at 15:21:47 Alan, I do also think it was harsh John Eustace was sacked. But it really is a concern that Dunc, Big Unsworth and Rooney, all ex-players that "Get Everton", are struggling in the manager world. So much Unsworth was sacked from the Vanarama. And there are Everton fans who want them to manage Everton. Dale Self 26 Posted 28/10/2023 at 15:26:50 Cherries 1-1 Clarets. That's good just keep it there gentlemen. And nice goal Eddie baby Arse 1-0. This is working out so far. Dale Self 27 Posted 28/10/2023 at 16:45:56 Bellinghammer! That looked like it was rising the whole way from 25 yards out in a standing position. El Classico just heated up 1-1 Hotted up? Is hotting up, I'm going with that. Bill Gall 28 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:06:43 And Bellingham gets the winner. Dale Self 29 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:07:54 That was cheeky tapping it through the keeper's legs. Jude is in top form. Paul Ferry 30 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:27:11 Our Jude might just be the best player in the whole damn world at the moment, Dale Self 31 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:35:12 What is that seafoam green? Deep aqua urine? I don't like it. Paul Ferry 33 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:40:36 Thought that Man-U looked quite snazzy and natty in green stripes the other day. We need the boy Gordon to do something for me here after Arteta took the piss out of me not playing Gabriel and Saka gets a puny assist in a. 5-0 win. But this is an end-to-end game, enjoying it. Dale Self 34 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:54:01 Wolves are strong enough at the back so I don't expect them in the relegation scrap. They will be around Palace possibly. Eddie lost Tonali for 10 months. Offside position player made contact didnt he? I didn't get the good angle. Green is good, some variations on green not so much. Dan Parker 35 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:57:18 VAR decision in micro-seconds without any suggestion Newcastle fouled the goalie. Ruled out without any hesitation when it's us. Commentators non-starter. Corrupt Jack Convery 36 Posted 28/10/2023 at 17:58:51 Newcastle goal almost a replica of the goal we had disallowed v Fulham. Goalie goes over the top of own player and Wilson picks up the bits. In our case Fulham goalie does exactly the same, Keane picks up the pieces but ref blows for foul on goalie by Tarkowski. It stinks, it really does. Money talks. Jack Convery 37 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:00:43 Onana wipes out everybody but goal disallowed to give Man Utd the points earlier this season. How much more evidence do the clubs outside the Sky darlings need to see it's rigged??? Dale Self 38 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:17:04 Oh look another gift. Deserves a yellow for diving. Ok he tapped him in the process of pulling his leg back. Dan Parker 39 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:18:26 Wow Jack Convery 40 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:19:16 VAR at Wolves. Awful decision to give that !!! Corruption !!!! Jack Convery 41 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:21:12 Pundit - If ref hadn't given it VAR would have said No PEN. !! What kind of logic are we playing too. Brian Williams 42 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:25:55 Anyone who's played the game could see that the attacking player threw himself to the ground there. Awful decision and a dive straight from the Slippy G playbook. Dale Self 43 Posted 28/10/2023 at 18:26:54 If Guimares touched that Taylor should be substituted at halftime, with a good pointy finger talking to. Sorry for the preposition ending a sentence but I am outraged, completely expectedly outraged. It seems that they need some definition of natural movement for offence play in the box. The Newcastle player had opportunity to play the ball then move through the space but instead did a Suarez to get contact on the bottom or side of his boot. Incompetence out in the open. Michael Kenrick 44 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:06:13 Incredible competitiveness from Wolves, finally rewarded. Two superb touches on that goal. I think Rob Halligan might have enjoyed that one! Paul Ferry 45 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:08:28 Do the clocks go back in England today as over here, just checking for the match tomorrow? Fab goal, great move, was that Neto, and great finish. Oh dear Nick Pope, catch it lad or at least put a proper punch to it. Second wow, Kane hat-trick 8-0, 3 red cards - Neto down Dale Self 46 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:10:46 That was a skilled move by the MF and layoff to Hwang. Textbook breaking the back line. Paul Tran 47 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:12:36 Clocks go back at 2am tomorrow Paul. Paul Ferry 48 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:14:48 Thanks Paul mate, so at least we're on the same schedules. Hope you're well Paul. Feel for Neto, he's been brilliant this season. Michael Kenrick 49 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:15:32 Clocks go back at 2 am BST Sunday, Paul. That becomes 1 am GMT. And just to confuse, we kick off at 1 pm (13:00 GMT), 1 hour earlier than a 'normal' Sunday afternoon encounter. This is to accommodate 1 hour of weeping, moaning and gnashing of teeth in remembrance of Bill Kenwright before the match. Paul Ferry 50 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:19:15 Cheers MK, I was a tad surprised to see the minutes silence for BK at Palace yesterday, so I'm assuming. that its happening at all games - won't be one of the more consensual minutes. Paul Hewitt 51 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:21:57 If you want to see sportsmen giving their everything and not play-acting, the rugby World Cup Final kicks off at 8. Paul Ferry 52 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:22:20 The two Sheffield teams have accumulated a grand total of 4 points from 23 matches so far. And I see that Wazza has certainly turned Brum's fortunes around. Paul Tran 53 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:27:42 No bother Paul, the extra hour in the day will help me this weekend! Paul Ferry 54 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:38:25 Well, that was a pretty fair result and I actually predicted it in my mother of all prediction battles with Chris Sutton. I'm a little edgy about tomorrow looking at that table, the one bright spot is - and then there were 19 - that Sheffield Utd are going down without any shadow of a doubt. Paul Hewitt 55 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:44:45 And Luton PF. Paul Ferry 56 Posted 28/10/2023 at 19:53:15 Luton have a little bit of fight in them Ph, don't you think, so while I agree they are probably going down, I'm not going to send them down just yet. Who do you want to win in the rugger? Paul Hewitt 57 Posted 28/10/2023 at 20:01:16 Not that bothered PF. Just hope it's a good game. Fancy SA thou. Paul Hewitt 58 Posted 28/10/2023 at 20:55:44 Harsh red card that. Paul Ferry 59 Posted 28/10/2023 at 21:15:17 Feck me, this game is violent – captains leading the way. Kieran Kinsella 60 Posted 28/10/2023 at 21:36:39 Shane Warne looking good for South Africa and Khaleesi from Game of Thrones Paul Ferry 61 Posted 28/10/2023 at 21:55:22 That was a shocker, Warne dying, what a bowler, cricket so much better than this Yank footy don't you think PH? Paul Hewitt 62 Posted 28/10/2023 at 22:10:08 Poor game that, PF. Paul Ferry 63 Posted 28/10/2023 at 22:37:24 Was it? You're better to judge, sending off ruined it? New Zealand showed some guts, don't you think? I think St Bellends would beat either of those teams. Danny Baily 64 Posted 28/10/2023 at 22:55:13 Maupay getting some attention on MotD for the first time since... the last time we beat West Ham. Christine Foster 65 Posted 28/10/2023 at 23:42:32 South Africa should have had a red, TMO overturned a great All-Black try because of a technicality in their favour! No advantage played, poor. Not a great game though… back to the proper game of footy tonight. Les Callan 66 Posted 29/10/2023 at 00:17:35 Union. Not a patch on league. Andrew Keatley 67 Posted 29/10/2023 at 00:51:07 Christine (65),You're all over the place in terms of the rules of the game I'm afraid. The New Zealand try was disallowed because there was a knock-on by Savea in the build-up; just because the ref was playing advantage for a South African infringement at the line-out doesn't give New Zealand the ability to freely knock the ball on and expect the game to continue. Kieran Kinsella 68 Posted 29/10/2023 at 03:14:19 If you replayed the rugby World Cup three times I'd say you could end up with a total of four different winners. It was exciting to have France, Ireland, South Africa and New Zealand all playing at a remarkably high level and each of them having lost and won once against each other. But in the end the experience of the S Africans showed. Not the most exciting team. Them v New Zealand was a bit like Italy v Brazil in football. But there are no rules about style points. The South Africans ground out their victories and IMHO even though I have family allegiances to England, Ireland, Australia, Scotland and even France and Italy plus distant cousins in New Zealand, have no problem acknowledging they were deserved winners. More impressively having been banned from the first 2 World Cups, they've now won half of the 8 they've competed in during which time New Zealand have won 2, Australia 1 and England 1. Somehow the folks down there have mastered the sport. Good luck to them. Michael Kenrick 69 Posted 29/10/2023 at 08:32:08 I thought the rugby final was a bit of a let-down after some of the scintillating play we saw earlier, especially from Ireland and France. But what a lottery the game is when you have such highly matched teams. The laws are so incredibly complicated and arcane. Will the ref and the TMO see every single infringement? They act like they do. And mere accidental stuff – a knock here, a hand there, a slight change of direction, body pressing on a leg in the loose ruck – the least offensive elements seem to swing the game. But I was screaming at New Zealand to kick the points when they went for touch with not one but at least three penalties in the second half. Less exciting rugby, definitely, but if you want to win that kind of attritional kick-fest, then kicking for the posts whenever you're in range has to be the gameplan. Joe McMahon 70 Posted 29/10/2023 at 08:37:55 Micheal. I agree and I was shouting for New Zealand to try a drop kick, (they obviously didn't hear me). NZ I thought were unlucky and I thought Many decisions went in favour of South Africa. One Red and one yellow, when both tackles were very similar. Danny O’Neill 71 Posted 29/10/2023 at 08:46:23 Just watching the highlights before I head to the London Stadium.Wolves' equaliser was a great finish. Only because I watch him, but our Anthony just gave up and then the centre back got put on his arse. Tony Abrahams 72 Posted 29/10/2023 at 08:54:05 Kieran K, stick to writing about rugby, because I found myself agreeing with everything you wrote in that very sensible post, mate! I thought when South Africa beat the very skillful France, it was done because of great experience and incredible desire, and when the clock was running down against England, they never panicked and just carried on playing their game. I thought New Zealand were unlucky, but I thought the Springboks, showed why they have been world champions for so long, whilst also proving that skill alone is never enough, if you want to be the top of the tree. Mike Doyle 73 Posted 29/10/2023 at 09:04:13 Joe 70 & Michael 69. I thought NZ were unlucky also. Despite being a man down for over half the game they were the best team in the 2nd half. Couldn't see the difference in danger between the NZ captain's high challenge and the South African's head butt that got only a yellow card. Some of the rules - particularly around the scrum - are very difficult to follow. A let down after some great stuff in the quarter and semi-finals. Team of the tournament = Fiji (population less than 1 million) Christine Foster 74 Posted 29/10/2023 at 09:43:30 Andrew 67# yep I get that but the knock on was a direct result of the original offence of interference in the line out, hands knocking the ball out of all black jumper. The ref said as much despite the try and pulled it back to that original offence, in favour of the all blacks.. some advantage.. you're right though it's not my game but this is NZ you have no choice other than support the all blacks!
