Bill Scott Chairman of Everton Football Club, August 1976 to August 1978 Bakery chief Bill Scott was named as new chairman of Everton in succession to Alan Waterworth in August 1976. And immediately after his appointment was announced, Mr. Scott said: "We have a great future here". Mr Scott was chairman of Scott's Bakeries and had been a member of the Everton board for 8 years. His election as chairman by his fellow directors was announced to shareholders at the club's annual meeting on 5 August 1976. Retiring chairman Alan Waterworth said: "I proposed Mr Scott and I am sure he will do an outstanding job." Mr. Scott said: "I hope I deserve the great honour of being chairman and I support Manager Billy Bingham and his staff. I have just returned from the tour of West Germany where I was must impressed by the results and magnificent team spirit on and off the field." One of the first problems Mr. Scott and his fellow directors would have to deal with was the fall in advance season ticket sales, which were 20% down on the previous season. "It is not insignificant that in the last few days, possibly after the tour results, that there has been a slight improvement," he said.
