Mason Springthorpe joined the Everton Academy from League Two side Shrewsbury Town at the age of 16. Springthorpe, who stands at 6ft 2ins, signed a scholarship with the Blues in July 2011.
He forced his way into the Under-21 side when Mateusz Taudul was injured and was briefly elevated to the senior squad against Reading in March 2013, but only to provide cover from the bench, after Tim Howard was sidelined with three broken ribs in his back.
With Taudul and then Jindrich Stanek garnering more playing time in the Everton U21 side, Springthorpe slipped down the pecking order and he was released by the club in May 2014 with his contract up at the end of June.
Springthorpe, a Shropshire native, would sign for Ellesmere Rangers in August 2014, to play in the new West Midlands League. But by the new year, he was registered with another non-league club as Fleetwood Town announced they had secured the player on a short-term deal.
