 June 2001

Jun 30:  Bill Kenwright may have so far scored a big victory with the Liverpool Vision recommendation of Everton's Kings Dock bid, but the overall impression of his progress since taking control last year is a negative one according to ToffeeWeb's June poll.

Jun 30:  With the other clubs dropping out of the 'race' to sign Tomasz Radzinski, and the player himself making very positive statements about his hopes of playing for Everton in the Premiership, Everton fans are hopeful of a double celebration next week with the expected signings of Stubbs and Radzinski.

Jun 29:  A war of words is being waged by the tenacious management of FC Anderlecht as they try every trick in the book to resist Tomasz Radzinski's intended move to Everton a team their manager claims is not up to Rad's standard!   The Clubs may have finally agreed a rather large fee of around 6.5M, and Everton will apparently triple the player's current Belgian wages.

Jun 29 - Everton have turned down a request from FC Copenhagen to extend Tommy Myhre's loan spell.

Jun 28:  Alan Stubbs has passed a stringent two-part medical and is now all set to sign on a Bosman free transfer next week after his current contract with Celtic expires.  He is believed to have agreed a three-year deal at Everton, with a weekly salary of around 15k reportedly less than Celtic were offering!

Jun 27 - Everton have named the diminutive figure of 1960's star Alan Ball as their 'Giant' for 2001.  Apparently continuing a trend started by some "hugely successful Millennium initiative", the club intend to name and honour a new 'Giant' every year from now until Doomsday...

Jun 27 - The Columbus Dispatch reports that zealous prosecutors in Columbus, Ohio, have indicted former Everton player Anders Limpar in absentia for the heinous crime of fondling a woman he met at a party last year, when he was playing for Colorado Rapids!

Jun 27 - Everton's first home game of the new season v Spurs has been rearranged by Sky tv for live broadcast on Monday August 20th at 8pm BST.

Jun 26:  Boyhood Evertonian Alan Stubbs is expected to become Everton's first signing of the summer early next week.  The player is believed to have turned down Celtic's offer of a three-year extension to his contract, in favour of a "dream move" for the scouser.

Jun 26 - An Everton XI (that probably means the Reserves) will travel to Hereford United for a friendly on August 11th.

Jun 25 - In a possibly fabricated piece from The Sun, Patrick Vieira is reported to be unimpressed with Arsne Wegner's signing of Francis Jeffers "a boy of 20, unproven in the Premiership"!

Jun 23 - Everton have not given up on securing Thomasz Radzinski from FC Anderlecht, and are reported to be increasing their bid.

Jun 22:  With season ticket sales apparently hovering around half of what they were this time last year, Everton are extending the deadline for cheap renewals to July 7th in response to the recent postal dispute.

Jun 21 - Everton have rejected speculation that they are interested in signing Manchester United youngsters Jonathan Greening and Mark Wilson.

Jun 21 - Tommy Myhre's expected transfer to FC Copenhagen appears to be dead now that manager Roy Hodgson has split the coop to join Udinese!

Jun 21:  Everton kick off the new 2001-02 season on August 18th with an away fixture at Charlton, followed in midweek by the visit of Spurs.  The first Saturday game at Goodison is v Middlesbrough on August 25th.

Jun 20:  The world-class Houston Securities bid for development of Kings Dock, which includes a new 55,000-seat stadium for Everton, is being recommended by Liverpool Vision as the preferred bidder for the prime waterfront site!  English Partnerships will hopefully confirm this selection at their meeting next month.  This represents a great step forward for Bill Kenwright's ambitious plan, and signals a tremendous success for the EfKD campaign.

Jun 20 - Anderlecht appear to have rejected Everton's 3.5M bid for Polish-born Canadian striker Thomasz Radzinski.

Jun 20 - Joe-Max Moore appeared for just 18 mins in the second half as the USA beat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 in New York, before he limped off with a bad knock.

Jun 18:  The good work done by Everton's Youth Academy despite their poor facilities continues to impress with two more call-ups at the England Under-17 level for Wayne Rooney and Sean Doherty.  Both players figured prominently for last season's Everton Under-17s.

Jun 18:  Lots of the more reputable news-carriers are picking up on the Stubbs story, but there appears to be little of any real substance, unless reports of the Celtic player buying a house in Southport mean something...

Jun 18 - Following the expiration of his loan spell at FC Copenhagen, Tommy Myhre has been placed on the transfer list.

Jun 16 - Joe-Max Moore played for the US National team in Jamaica today, but failed to score in a surprisingly open 0-0 draw.

Jun 15:  Everton don't often name transfer targets, so does their announcement that the Board has discussed signing Canadian striker Thomasz Radzinski mean that an offer is imminent?  If so, the Anderlecht president says Everton will have to double their offer to 7M!

Jun 15 -  Everton fan Simon Ross is using the Internet to gather signatures on a petition he intends to send to the Club next Friday, expressing concern at the financial crisis that underlies Everton's fall to that of a lowly relegation-threatened feeder club for the new Big Five in the Premier League.

Jun 14 - Everton have completed the transfer of Francis Jeffers to Arsenal for 8M, rising to 10M on appearances.  One of the finest young prospects to come through the Everton ranks, the main reason for his desire to leave the Club is probably disaffection with manager Walter Smith, who continues to sanction the sale of Everton's best players.

Jun 14 - Tommy Myhre could soon make his loan deal with FC Copenhagen permanent after winning a Championship medal with them.

Jun 14 - Goodison misfit and alleged Archie Knox punchbag, Stephen Hughes, will become a free agent when his bizarre 15-month Everton contract expires next month. Another victim of fallout with the charismatic Everton management team?

Jun 14 - As the impending decision on the preferred bidder for Kings Dock approaches, Everton fan Paul Holmes presents his views on the financing and sounds a warning that these aspects of the bid may not be as impressive as the stunning stadium architecture.  However, another Everton fan Tony Wooly fairly tears this all to shreds in his detailed rebuttal!

Jun 14:  Michael Ball, who is on holiday this week, will resume contract negotiations with the Club next week, following yesterday's Board Meeting where a decision was made to offer Everton's best player a five-year deal.

Jun 13 - Francis Jeffers has snubbed a reported 8M offer from Newcastle, saying he wants to move to a club with a chance of winning something....

Jun 12:  Everton have announced they are opening talks with David Unsworth on an extension to his contract, which expires in 12 months.

Jun  10 - Perugia captain and future Inter player Marco Materazzi broke the record for a defender in Serie A by scoring  his 12th of the season on the final day.

Jun 10:  Everton fan Dominic Lawson makes a reasoned plea for the Everton Board to develop a share issue for the fans as a way of providing the financial shot in the arm the Club needs to turn things around.

Jun 9:  Thomas Gravesen praises the psychological therapy he has received under Walter Smith...

Jun 9:  Watford's Tommy Mooney turned down a fabulous opportunity for fame and fortune in the soar-away Premiership when he turned down a big-money dream move to Everton, choosing instead to remain in the lowly Nationwide with the hapless Blues of Birmingham City.

Jun 7 - Joe-Max Moore turned out for the US National team against Ecuador.

Jun 7 - Idan Tal is having surgery to resolve a hernia problem.

Jun 6 - Gravesen, Tal, Alexandersson and Pembridge were all  in action for their respective countries, with Pembridge and Alexandersson scoring too.

Jun 5 - Striker Mike Newell has been released by newly-promoted Blackpool following an injury-hit season, and Terry Phelan has blasted Fulham, also just promoted, for dumping him 48 hours before his wedding.

Jun 3 - Following Soccernet's claim that he has been drinking heavily again, Everton have confirmed that Paul Gascoigne has gone to a clinic in Arizona to "prepare mentally and physically" for pre-season training next month.

Jun  2 - Idan Tal's 6th-min goal helped Israel to a 3-0 win over mighty Liechtenstein in the World Cup qualifiers.

Jun 1 - Everton youngster Ryan Valentine made an impressive debut for Wales at U-21 level against Poland, despite the 0-4 scoreline.

    Jun 1 - Andrew Pettinger, Everton's U-19 goalie, has signed as a professional on a 2-year deal.
