Possible permutations for Everton regarding the Europa League
As the end of the season approached, Everton needed to finish in 5th place or above in order to qualify for European football next season. There were no permutations by which an extra Europa League place would be created, except for Chelsea in the event that they won the 2012-13 Europa League but finished 6th in the table.
Chelsea won the Europa League and also finished in the top five, so they simply entered the Champions League based on League position.
Next season's English representatives in Europe will be as follows:
Champions League: Manchester United (Group phase) Manchester City (Group phase) Chelsea (Group phase) Arsenal (Play-off)
Europa League: Wigan Athletic (Group phase) Tottenham Hotspur (Play-off) Swansea City (3rd Qualifying round)
