Barry Hesketh 2 Posted 21/10/2023 at 16:08:06 Sky News has just announced that Sir Bobby Charlton has sadly passed away, he was a true England legend. RIP, Bobby, and condolences to your family and friends. Mick O'Malley 3 Posted 21/10/2023 at 16:16:02 Bobby Charlton, England legend with a rocket of a shot, especially with those balls they played with in those days. Mark Taylor 4 Posted 21/10/2023 at 16:19:58 RIP, Bobby C, great player. Not many more left from '66. Hurst maybe? Andrew Clare 5 Posted 21/10/2023 at 17:55:40 RIP Bobby Charlton. A great footballer at a time when we were a respected team and club. Jim Lloyd 6 Posted 21/10/2023 at 18:15:42 A passing of a great footballer for England and Manchester United. Only just found out by reading this thread. A wonderful player with a tremendous shot on him.Andrew, I totally agree. seeing what he went through, seeing a lot of his team mates dead after that horrendous crash. He played a load of brilliant games for England and United. Condolences to his family and his club. Paul Ferry 7 Posted 21/10/2023 at 18:38:03 Well, that's the definition of a fluke. Oh no, Bobby Charlton, RIP, what a true gentleman. Tony Everan 8 Posted 21/10/2023 at 18:47:06 He'll be claiming he meant it, but he was looking over to see where to put the cross into and mistimed it. Chelsea won't be too worried about that though. Paul Ferry 9 Posted 21/10/2023 at 18:47:28 Raya does that all the time, trying to play out with his feet, I fecking hate it. Paul Ferry 10 Posted 21/10/2023 at 18:50:55 Doesn't that now leave only Sir Geoff as the only living lad of '66? Sad. Another world. Different universe. Where have all the gents gone? Paul Ferry 11 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:07:02 Again! Passing the ball from the back. This has 2-2 or 2-3 written all over it. Michael Kenrick 12 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:07:22 Wow, the amount of curve Rice got on that shot, it almost missed! Ian Jones 13 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:11:31 Paul, yes only one left from 1966 squad. Amazing Paul Ferry 14 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:12:43 Thanks Ian, that's so sad. Paul Ferry 15 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:13:42 2-2, saw that one coming Paul Ferry 16 Posted 21/10/2023 at 19:56:59 Lovely touches for Sir Bobby at Bramhall Lane. Paul Ferry 17 Posted 21/10/2023 at 20:05:18 Evans and Maguire at the back! Lordy lordy. Paul Ferry 18 Posted 21/10/2023 at 20:28:43 Public school lads doing okay… Paul Hewitt 19 Posted 21/10/2023 at 20:50:54 Not a great game. But we are winning 🤞 Paul Ferry 20 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:03:43 Public school lads would not win this if it was a great game. Paul Ferry 21 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:22:02 15-6. It's getting interesting. Alan McGuffog 22 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:23:32 Ian... regarding the '66 squad, I think Callaghan still walks amongst us, and, I think, Terry Paine. Paul Ferry 23 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:28:32 Ah, the squad rather than the team. Didn't Terry Paine play for Southampton? I think I remember him from early 70s Match of the Day. Winger? Captain? Alan McGuffog 24 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:39:34 Yeah Paul... right winger, one club man. Callaghan was a big mate of Brian Labone so I suppose for a RS he is sort of okay. Forget I said that! Paul Ferry 26 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:41:33 Cheers Alan. I always thought that Callaghan looked like a nice fella! Paul Ferry 27 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:54:02 Criminal, ball going forwards at that moment. Paul Hewitt 28 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:55:25 That's heartbreaking. Paul Ferry 29 Posted 21/10/2023 at 21:59:45 Very unlucky PH, didn't need to end that way, that penalty was a vey bad giveaway and passing the ball forwards, feck me. Ian Jones 30 Posted 21/10/2023 at 22:04:54 Alan, I stand corrected. Colin Glassar 31 Posted 21/10/2023 at 22:08:14 RIP, Sir Bobby Charlton. I had the honour and pleasure of seeing him play at Goodison. One of the genuine all-time greats before the TV (money) generated prima donnas. Charlton, Best, Cruyff, Pele, Beckenbauer, Ball, Garrincha etc… real footballers, real stars. Paul Ferry 32 Posted 21/10/2023 at 22:10:14 But you did mean the team not the squad Ian. Nice words CG. Tony Abrahams 33 Posted 21/10/2023 at 23:17:10 I've just watched the news commemorating Bobby Charlton, and although he was before my time, whenever I have watched any footage of him, my second thought about him, was that he seemed to be a very, very genuine footballer, who had too much class to cheat? I might not be right because I've only watched limited footage, but maybe it had more to do with how football was played during that era? Don Alexander 34 Posted 21/10/2023 at 23:39:51 Tony, Charlton was indeed a gentleman, but others of his time were too, despite the brutality of many defenders. Charlton though was in an excellent team where Law and Best, and especially Best, far exceeded his own capabilities as a goal-scorer/creator. Like it or not he hugely benefitted from their genius. In Goodison in the late 60's one of his nicknames was "Pigs-Ear Charlton". Michael Kenrick 35 Posted 22/10/2023 at 09:32:57 I've watched the first goal Maupay scored for Brentford, a nice finish coming in at the far post. I didn't think he was offside from the free-kick but three other Brentford players obviously were yards offside. However, they never touched the ball, while a fourth Brentford player who crossed the ball for Maupay was also clearly not offside. They didn't show the VAR lines on Sky highlights but just said they were going with the onfield decision, which was offside. Guess I'll have to see what the adjudicators say on MotD. Brian Harrison 36 Posted 22/10/2023 at 11:11:20 I cant believe that there hasnt been a post set up to commemorate the passing who for me was the best English player I have ever seen. Bobby Charlton was a genuine 2 footed player and they are about as rare as hens teeth, even the brilliant Messi and Maradona only used one foot. I saw Charlton score from 25 yards with both left and right foot, he could also go past people with ease. He won everything you could win in football and was also the prefect gentleman. As many will know he survived the Munich air disaster in 1958, were he lost more than half his very young team mates. What many might not know is that just 2 months after the Munich air disaster he played his first game for England. Today when much is now correctly made of mental health, how he managed to cope with being involved in such a disaster and still have the career he did is just unbelievable.I remember going to Old Trafford to watch Man Utd play the great Real Madrid side which included my all time favourite centre forward Di Stephano as well as Suarez, Gento the flying winger and their brilliant centre half Santa Maria. But Charlton was the star of the night and that was with both Best and Law in the team.I think he was only booked twice in his whole career and unlike now it was obligatory then that defenders would normally use two footed tackles into the back of forwards just to let them know what sort of afternoon they were in for. Also no beautiful manicured pitches back then, in fact this time of the season the centre circle was usually a circle of mud as were most 6 yard boxes. Although not an Everton player, Michael and Lyndon really surprised you haven't created a post for this great man and player.RIP Bobby. Dave Abrahams 37 Posted 22/10/2023 at 14:11:01 Brian (36), a great post about, I imagine, a universally liked, respected player and more importantly, man.I think that first England cap for Bobby was against Scotland with our own Alex Parker marking him, I think England won 4-0.When Bobby was leaving school and with most clubs in the country wanting to sign him, he opted to go to Man Utd after being warned not to sign for them, being told they were a Catholic club and Bobby was Church of England. He quite rightly ignored this and Man Utd got an absolute beaut of a player, future captain and person to look up to for every aspiring player. RIP, Bobby Charlton. I never met you but very glad I saw you many, many times even when you helped to beat the Blues. Dale Self 38 Posted 22/10/2023 at 16:34:33 Action in the Villa box early. Martinez with a save that makes you forget he's such a dick. C'mon Hammers just because I no longer like Drac Dale Self 39 Posted 22/10/2023 at 16:57:10 If we could get a player with Paqueta's skill set without reminding me of Paqueta that would be perfect. Wow muted, decent work on setting up in the Hammers box by Villa. A deflection to Watkins but he was there and laid off to Luiz. 1-0Villa. Paul Ferry 40 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:13:25 I'm going to edit that last message, 'If only we could get a player' Dale Self 41 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:21:11 Bastard! English Bastard! Rob Halligan 42 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:27:08 VAR check for a potential penalty for handball right on the edge of the Villa penalty area, yet Ward - Prowse took the free kick about two yards outside the area. Surely that's not allowed? Paul Ferry 43 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:29:19 Yank happy hippy, California kale and roots muncher, anarchy on a bike Dale Self 44 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:31:46 No granola reference? That's weak posh mate. And why aren't you doing some Beto bashing? Paul Ferry 45 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:33:20 Crafty bugger tried to get a bit more space to curve the ball but didn't help really. Happens all the time. Bet Ernie Hunt didn't move the ball for that free kick. Hope you're well Rob and in recovery after another fecking pointless walk across the park. Yep, Keane was a dick when a draw seemed to be on the cards but Dyche cannot get away with those fucking half-time subs. Dale Self 46 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:36:24 Paul, why run Harrison and McNeil down? Getting the ball wide with 10 men was a Sisyphean task to ask of this team. Dale Self 47 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:40:35 Paqueta just fucked that up. Paul Ferry 48 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:41:10 Why would I batter Beto, yer granola gobbling tree-hugger? He didn't even come on did he, not that I noticed. Shocking half-time subs when the other side have deeply problematic full-backs and a two centre-halves who shit themselves when the ball is anywhere near their penalty spot. Dale Self 49 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:47:33 Fair enough but we were down to 10 and neither Danjuma nor Chermiti know how to lock it down on defence. It didn't seem an obvious choice for any move. 5-1-3 was logical imo. Tony Abrahams 50 Posted 22/10/2023 at 17:50:14 I was watching to see if he scored, Rob, because this just sums up the total ineptitude that we are witnessing on a very regular basis now. Absolutely clueless. I can't believe the absolute murder these refs are getting away with. After hearing the audio footage from the Spurs v Liverpool game the other week, it's hard to comprehend how these sub-standard officials are deemed good enough for the richest league in the world. Rob Halligan 51 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:05:32 Great finish by Watkins, but my god, how slow is Kurt Zouma? Dale Self 52 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:06:03 A cracker. That is a type of goal that happens frequently this season. An attempted interception is misplayed while teammates have already moved leaving an easy counter. Paul Ferry 53 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:07:26 I was about to post are Villa doing their best not to win this? Moyes has a very good recent record at Villa Park. But what a fecking goal that was. Ollie Watkins, head and shoulders the best English striker in the Premier League. Just saw Dalot's goal too. Wow! Dale Self 54 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:19:44 Villa's home form is scary. The players are expecting to kick the opponent's ass now. Paul Ferry 55 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:20:05 Thinking of Villa, I watched that Ron "Bernard Manning" Atkinson racist documentary. I had no idea that he was born in Old Swan - and what an unreflective tit and tool he is. A dangerous fucker, no wonder he hasn't had any decent work for two decades. Twat. Rob Halligan 56 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:23:45 4-1. This will knock West Ham's confidence, plus with a long journey to Greece in midweek for a Europa League game, we should really be targeting a win against them next week. They will also be suspended without Emerson, their current left-back, and with Cresswell still out, will probably have to field a stand-in left-back. Time for McNeil and Harrison to shine down the flanks and Calvert-Lewin to rip Zouma apart! Joe McMahon 57 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:24:36 Paul, I was stunned when that news came out, as he had the 3 degrees at that great WBA side in the late 70, early 80s. Cyril Regis was immense. Paul Ferry 58 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:26:02 'Time for McNeil and Harrison to shine down the flanks.' Only if Kettering's Einstein doesn't sub them, Rob. Paul Ferry 59 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:29:20 Joe, the worst thing was that he just kept on saying it was a while ago, I apologised, and, worst of all, what happened to forgiveness? Forgiveness, fucking Atkinson, how forgiving has he been in his life. Another shocking thing, that tit and worst player to play for England in the Carlton Palmer insisting 'gaffer' is a great guy, not a racist, (this kills me) it was not meant to be broadcast, and we're off to play a round of golf. Paul Ferry 60 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:33:45 I'm so glad that we have the class not to play a 'song' before and after the game. John Denver, FFS, Annie's Song, Silver fecking lining, and the one I hate the most, Sweet Caroline. Ajay Gopal 61 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:37:22 Villa's home record is very very impressive. But who were the last team to beat them at home, and quite comprehensively? Football is a funny game, isn't it? Paul Birmingham 62 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:39:49 Everton will beat West Ham next week if they turn up and believe and play with no fear.Ward Prowse from dead balls is a threat so no soft free-kicks within 30 yards of goal.UTFTs, FTRS! Dale Self 63 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:42:18 That is ‘Mister' Kettering's Einstein to you, Paul. I'm with you on the anti-John Denver position. Wasn't it Dusseldorf or something like that? And yet he made it to that Country Road. And did you see the ‘Sultan of Unai' banner? That lot could easily fall into a Helen Reddy song as the team comes out of the tunnel. Ahem. Tony Abrahams 64 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:42:30 Does this documentary prove that Ron Atkinson is a racist because he uttered more than a few stupid words, Paul?I ask because I have always been of the opinion that actions speak louder than words, and I don't believe Atkinson was ever shy about playing black players when he was a football manager during the very, very racist era in which he managed.Life has changed, it's not what you do but more about what you say nowadays, but nothing would convince me that a person who did a lot of good for a lot of black players was a genuinely racist man. Paul Ferry 65 Posted 22/10/2023 at 18:59:05 Very fair Tony, but even then there was a touch of love thy neighbour in the three degrees title. Now I think about it, you were at a club that also had a good record of promoting black players, like West Ham also. I think, Tony, that as much as I hate what he said, it was his reaction afterwards that still had me open mouthed at times watching it again. Some other gang of twats sing Mull of Kintyre, Dale. Actually, I think it might be Forest. Paul Ferry 66 Posted 22/10/2023 at 19:02:47 Rob Halligan has only ever seen us win at our first home. Jesus, that is a sobering thought, twice, Dear God. Paul Ferry 67 Posted 22/10/2023 at 19:03:41 Sorry, Rob, I've seen us win twice at our first ground. Rob Halligan 68 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:06:29 Paul, there have been other wins there, which I did not attend, mainly in the '80s and '90s, but only because I was playing Saturday football. Even out of the two I did attend that we won, one was a League Cup game, the one where I think it was Gary Stevens who hit an absolute screamer from about 40 yards and bounced about ten times before Grobbelaar dived over the ball, as it rippled the net! The other was the Kevin Campbell winner. Paul Ferry 69 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:10:04 Such a shame that you missed the Sharp and Lineker derbies there Rob. The Lineker one was the first time I ever saw 'proper' violence at a derby, in the Kop, after Kev Racliffe's goal. Paul Tran 70 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:18:13 Paul, I'll raise you with my third – the Kanchelskis derby. Last 3 times I've been there we won! Paul Ferry 71 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:21:43 Damn, missed that one, Paul, I think I was giving a talk at an early modern urban history conference of all things. If memory serves, trying to keep an eye on the cupholders. It was 1995, wasn't it? In some ways, Kanchelskis was, I think, our last best signing. Hope you're well. Paul Tran 72 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:33:32 My Dad had a season ticket and wouldn't go to Anfield. I got the ESCLA train from London, met my Dad in town, went the match, met my Dad in the same pub before the train home to London. Great day, not a patch on '84 & '86, mind. The bad weather left us today, we had a lovely day out in a sunny Glenmore Forest! Tony Abrahams 73 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:53:51 One of my red maté's never had a ticket that day Paul, and when we got to the ground he took me to a turnstile and told me it was for The Kemlyn Road, so I ended up bunking in, and leaving him with my ticket. The bastard had stitched me up because I ended up in the Kop, but I found an empty place at the back of that stand, where there was a missing seat.I had just spent about £30 on bets, but unfortunately (fortunately really, I was just always a greedy gambler) for me I only put £2 on Everton to win 2-1, with Kanchelskis, to score the first goal. 115/1 x 2, got me £230, but because I was on a lot of medication for Tuberculosis, I couldn't celebrate with any alcohol, not that I have ever really needed any when we have won!I shake my head sometimes and think I must be the opposite of a few people on ToffeeWeb, because I always preferred drinking when we lose. Some people never post after a win but have about 5 posts in quick succession after a defeat, so they obviously must go home and sulk. Rob Halligan 74 Posted 22/10/2023 at 20:57:30 Does the VAR favour all the so-called big clubs everywhere throughout the world? Romeu, formerly of Southampton, and now playing for Barcelona, almost rips the shirt of a Bilbao player as he tries to breakaway just by the halfway line. The referee quite rightly, and with no immediate danger on the Barcelona goal, stops play for the shirt pull and books Romeu. A couple of minutes later, a cross into the Barcelona 6-yard box, sees similar action from Joao Cancelo, a shirt pull on an attacking Bilbao player. Result… nothing given because it would have meant a penalty for Bilbao, and we can't be having that. The VAR is an absolute joke whatever country you're in. Brendan McLaughlin 75 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:08:02 Tony #73,"I always preferred drinking when we lose."That's a thread on it's own.Think I enjoyed it more when we won... cos it didn't happen often. Paul Ferry 76 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:08:32 Wish I had a forest near me; hardly left the house all day. Good grief Tony, tuberculosis, and you sat in the Kop breathing all that stuff in. Did you celebrate when we scored? We did in 1986, but there were it seemed a good thousand of us on the main stand side. They're such bad fecking losers. I think the most I've drunk on an Everton day was that Wednesday in Rotterdam. I remember getting legged by some Vienna lads outside the ground (I think I was doing something stupid) and running straight into a tree. But I'm more like you Tony. Unfortunately, the derby ended at 8-30AM here with a horrible day stretching ahead. I think I hit the white vino half way through the chavs match and I'm not exactly sure but I do remember that for some reason I was flicking through the Live-aid concert some time after midnight drinking red wine and, as always happens at such times, getting nostalgic and emotional for the mid-80s (I ended up watching the1985 Sunderland 4-1 and Newcastle 4-0 extended highlights, with a goofy smile from ear to ear. I saw that Rob. I don't want to get resigned to it, but it's giving me a sort of I care less now attitudes: i..e. it's just part of what we at Everton have to deal with week-in-and-week-out and its a big part of how we explain things that might sometimes deflect too much attention from gaffer and players. Brendan McLaughlin 77 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:18:31 Brendan #75,And of course we had won. Dale Self 78 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:21:14 I hope many Yanks are watching Barca-Bilbao, running it on the main channel during the NFL is brilliant. Tony Abrahams 79 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:22:02 When I'm already happy, I just smile inside Brendan, but when I wasn't so happy I just used to get on the ale and forget about the misery by having a laugh.I never celebrated outwardly Paul, because I can be quite clever at times (only sometimes) and I know what a lot of those horrible Snidey bastards (not all of them are like this) are like. I never had a seat, meaning I would have been thrown out, so I just kept my arms folded, and listened to the bitterness all around me.Stuart should have made it 3-1 at the end, so I must have looked like a proper Kopite, celebrating their keeper saving his shot, as I was walking down the steps towards the exit, with a fucking big smile on my face!Sunderland 4-1, is definitely one of the best games I have ever attended in my life Paul🙠Paul Tran 80 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:27:55 I was on the Kop with a red mate. Cheered like a banshee both times we scored. Proper scrapping going on behind us.Sat in the Bank Hall afterwards for a swift pint before catching the train that turned into a swift six. I was giving it the big one, he pointed at their run in and said 'You never know!'It's often overlooked how brilliant Big Nev was that day. I still think we'd have one at least one trophy that season had he stayed fit. Paul Ferry 81 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:40:45 We lost two trophies that year, Paul (and were robbed of the chance to be rightly crowned kings of Europe), we were bossing the final first half. You're right, I remember going back to York on the train the next day where I was at Uni just feeling in bliss with a few beers knowing that we had just won the league. We played the best footy I've ever seen that season. I must have been pretty close to you that day. We were right next to them and we got involved in some pretty nasty fisticuffs and a few coins hit their targets. Paul Tran 82 Posted 22/10/2023 at 21:59:46 We started that season slowly. Once Lineker got into his stride, we were superb. Nev got injured, we looked like we were running out of gas and ultimately did. Paul Ferry 83 Posted 22/10/2023 at 22:18:51 Lineker is the best forward I've ever seen in our shirt. I was gutted when he left and, although it's still a tad murky, it seems that he did not want to leave and he says that we accepted the Barcelona bid before he heard about it. Howard Kendall worried that not enough players were scoring goals and that we were more direct and less creative, especially out wide. I can't remember if other players made complaints about that. But Lineker was fecking sensational that season and I still think that we lost the double rather than those twats winning it. Brendan McLaughlin 84 Posted 22/10/2023 at 22:31:31 Indeed Paul #83,We lost the league with a much better team in 85-86 than the one that won it in 86-87. Football eh? Paul Tran 85 Posted 22/10/2023 at 22:35:11 They told Lineker they'd received an offer and they'd accepted it. That was that in those days. He had a great time in Barca and we got our title back, with a team nowhere near as good, as Brendan says. Paul Ferry 86 Posted 22/10/2023 at 22:44:51 Completely agree, Brendan, that '87 team was miles behind the previous couple of years. Pleasure to watch that year 1985-86. Paul Ferry 87 Posted 22/10/2023 at 22:53:27 He did do well at Baca but his goals/game ratios were much higher with us and also with Spurs. I might have to put on Howard's Way later an open another bottle of wine! Derek Thomas 88 Posted 22/10/2023 at 23:00:12 Paul @ 83; "...I still think that we lost the double rather than those twats winning it" Spot on!We lost it in the very early in the season's derby, when Kendall, Lineker, the whole team formation thing were still sorting themselves out.We get even a draw out of it – which we very nearly did – that's one extra point for us, minus 2 for them and we win the League. As for The Cup bit of the Double...I still don't like thinking about it. Paul Ferry 90 Posted 22/10/2023 at 23:00:19 And I'm not sure that he did have a great time at Barca, Paul. They didn't win the league in 3 seasons or the Euro Cup and the one good year was his first with El Tel when they won the Cup-Winners Cup. He fell out with Cruyff who played him right midfield and then he lost his regular starting place. Dale Self 91 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:06:39 Come on, Marco, I cannot bear seeing Spurs top of the table. Paul Ferry 92 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:08:46 Spurs 3 Fulham 0 Dale Self 93 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:11:39 Victor, how did you log in as Paul? Paul Ferry 94 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:14:48 We need to be careful and economical as we only get 40 posts on a single main thread as opposed to the forum and then the knife comes down and we get chopped. Happened to me on the matchday thread last week. I hate looking at Anthony Taylor. Dale Self 95 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:15:09 So what do you think, did Ange just offer something meaningful to some frustrated players? Or does he bring something truly sophisticated that outright surpasses many Premier League manager strategies? Ian Bennett 96 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:19:05 So iwobi wanted £100k a week, but only good for Fulham bench about right. Dale Self 97 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:23:48 Taylor abusing discretion there. Dale Self 98 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:36:18 This match has been good on the eyes thus far. Jeff Armstrong 99 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:37:13 Some decent stuff being played, with no end product, we battered Fulham btw, with no end product.Son scores… end product. Dale Self 100 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:39:02 The return of Titus Bramble. Jeff Armstrong 101 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:41:34 Playing like Wilfred Bramble Jeff Armstrong 102 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:42:44 Do Spurs miss Kane? Paul Ferry 103 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:46:00 That's a typical Son goal, isn't it? He gets in that stride, shimmies, bang, always with some curve and curl on it. Spurs play better footy minus Kane, Jeff, and a lot of that is down to Maddison and the fact that they no longer have a #9 who was always going deep for the ball. They also have a very good manager. Their defence is much improved, more steely, and it might be the best 'attacking defence' in the Premier League. Dale Self 104 Posted 23/10/2023 at 20:53:04 I think Ange may be approaching the Guardiola lane. There is buy-in and this is a level above that. Maddison and Son allow some potent variations. It looks like he even has a setup for one- and two-man defensive rushes to disrupt view or retake the ball in the opponent's half. I hate it. Barry Hesketh 105 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:00:50 How did Taylor not issue any cards before he finally booked the Spurs player? At least 3 yellows should have been given to Fulham players in the first 20 minutes. The officials just make things up as they go along and Taylor is one of the worst for that, If Everton had made the exact same tackles as Spurs, we'd be down to 9 men by half-time. Dale Self 106 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:05:45 There is some game-to-game discretion the league could limit with a central review desk. This is used effectively in the NHL and absolutely tightens up calls to a standard. The problem is that the VAR is such a controversy there is little chance of that discussion. Paul Ferry 107 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:08:48 'Central Review Desk' doesn't sound very footy, sounds like something in the dole office. Sounds more like lacrosse or curling. Is that Iwobi on? Be good to see what a truly great player he is and could go up there with Johnny Haynes in the pantheon of Fulham legends. Jeff Armstrong 108 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:14:55 Iwobi playing down the middle, his best position, according to him.Count Shirley strikes again. Dale Self 109 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:18:44 Well, it looks like your 3-0 prediction is on ,Amazing Creskin. The review desk works I must say. They put people on standby for commentary, not the active staff but some live accountability at least. Tony Abrahams 110 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:28:17 Football has definitely ten-folded itself in controversy since the VAR was introduced into the game. Was this meant to happen or is it because there are way too many incompetent people officiating at the top in this country? They also seem to change a few of the rules depending on the time of the month, which also helps the inconsistency levels, unfortunately. Paul Ferry 111 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:28:49 Ha, I remember that too, and it's Kreskin, by the way. That was one wacky show and fella. I would have been on for 100 points in Fantasy Prem this week if that fecking full-back hadn't gone off with a knock. I needed him to hang on for 5 more minutes! As it is, I need either Son or Maddison to score and Spurs to keep a clean sheet. Andrew McLawrence 112 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:40:21 I would be very reluctant to criticise any player when they were with us, but I have to say Richarlison and Iwobi look bang average. Dale Self 113 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:41:19 They will never love Richarlison. Ooh and the Son sits on Paul's fantasy payoff. Ze plane! Ze plane will never come. Paul Ferry 114 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:46:25 Not like us, Dale. And the ozzie twat subs both of them, wave bye bye to my ton. Ho Ho. Poor old Richarlisony. One good game in 5 if lucky. He won't be there next season and sadly he won't be with us. Jeff Armstrong 115 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:48:06 Richarlison looked good for us in a crap team; Iwobi looked bang average in the same crap team. Dale Self 116 Posted 23/10/2023 at 21:52:59 His form picked up at Spurs and, given the structure, his passing improved. I think he runs too much early and fails to use his athleticism late. Richarlison shows up at full speed and they start kicking him to wear him down. Paul Ferry 117 Posted 23/10/2023 at 22:02:52 Not the worst result for us. Spurs can go 5 points clear on Friday. Barry Hesketh 118 Posted 23/10/2023 at 22:16:48 Spurs don't look that impressive to my eyes, but they have the results on the board, even if their manager keeps taking his best players off with a good deal of time to play in a match. He did the same at Arsenal when, if Son or Maddison – though he might have been injured – had stayed, on they might have taken all 3 points. How is it fair that Spurs have to play Monday followed by a Friday fixture? What I do know is, if Everton were two up with 10 minutes plus stoppage time to play, and we took our two best players off, we'd concede at least twice and throw away valuable points. Dale Self 119 Posted 24/10/2023 at 19:21:21 Munich will love Harry's ruthless efficiency. He just bounced a backheel nicely on goal but off a defender's rear then back to him and he put it away. Decent game Gala 1-2 BayernAnd now an assist in the box to Musiala. 1-3 Paul Ferry 120 Posted 24/10/2023 at 20:18:14 Copenhagen hit the post. I see why Man Utd find it so hard to keep clean sheets; another mistake by Maguire. What a strange day this is with Bill Kenwright leaving this world, emotional, touching tribute to Sir Bobby before kick-off, and, sadly, so many ToffeeWebbers who have lost loved ones in the last few weeks or so. Dale Self 121 Posted 24/10/2023 at 21:18:41 The no call of the Copenhagen keeper sliding under Rashford with no contact is carded all the time. Why isn't that a penalty? And yes, while plaing it low key it is hard not to feel that weight. I always take the ‘he had a good life' angle with old men. He made some good things happen. Paul Ferry 122 Posted 24/10/2023 at 21:36:24 Bellingham scores yet again. I hope that Man Utd's sluggishness tonight is not put down to convenient post-Sir Bobby blues. They're just not a particularly good team at this moment. I wonder if Rashford might be tempted by a big money move. Always a good perspective that Dale, to think of the good, especially now when things are raw. No doubt in very poor shape himself, Kenwright gave £50k last year to help a fellow cancer sufferer get the treatment she needed in Germany and it's sad that neither of them are with us today. Paul Ferry 123 Posted 24/10/2023 at 21:44:46 Maguire, he is going to enjoy that one. Dale Self 125 Posted 24/10/2023 at 21:58:28 Shhh. Football please, unless something blows up on a thread. Onana and Slabhead keep Sir Bobby from turning over. Just read the Bill generosity story. Life is complicated. I will guess he was a complexly simple man who got in deep while trying to do good. He will be remembered well relative to some simply complex men who were greedy down to their dna. Paul Ferry 130 Posted 25/10/2023 at 20:50:55 Oh no, Newcastle are losing Paul Ferry 131 Posted 25/10/2023 at 21:29:31 That's not our Niasse playing for Young Boys is it, who just got an assist? Danny O’Neill 132 Posted 25/10/2023 at 21:30:30 Well if Michael Keane's was a penalty, Dortmund should have just had one. Mike Gaynes 133 Posted 25/10/2023 at 21:53:25 No, PF, our old friend Niasse was last at Morecambe... no idea where he is now. Paul Ferry 134 Posted 25/10/2023 at 22:20:32 Thanks, Mike, hope all is well with you, mate. Mike Gaynes 135 Posted 25/10/2023 at 22:28:52 Cheers PF. Sad days but the sun will come out again... Rob Halligan 136 Posted 25/10/2023 at 22:30:01 Skunks beaten! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠Brendan McLaughlin 137 Posted 26/10/2023 at 00:12:12 Dale #125Are you suggesting that some men are born greedy but that Bill had greed thrust upon him?Or am I, hopefully, reading that completely wrong? Phil Wood 138 Posted 26/10/2023 at 00:29:53 Dale 125, Shhh but you are a cretin. Don Alexander 139 Posted 26/10/2023 at 01:28:25 On this "charitable donor", issue please address the realities. If a person with £30million in their bank account decides to donate £50,000, they part with a mere 600th of their fortune, with a very opulent safety net intact, to say the least.Anyone with £30,000 in their bank account who decides to donate a 600th of their wealth must part with £50. They too are left with a healthy safety net. Thus they are equally worthy in my opinion, the guy with £30k far more so than the fat cat multi-millionaire though. But what about those who've given £50 without even a four-figure bank account, every month for years? There's more than a few of them, never seeking adulation or praise. Brendan McLaughlin 140 Posted 26/10/2023 at 22:25:54 Don #139,Good post but not sure why you made it on this thread? Don Alexander 141 Posted 26/10/2023 at 23:09:51 Brendan, there's reference on this thread and the media in general to the fabulous generosity of very wealthy donors, one of whom has just left our tent.Of course any cause lucky enough to receive such munificence will be happy to take it but where does the money come from regarding those very wealthy donors, and why should mere wealth be applauded when a mere 600th of a very distasteful (to me) fortune has been spent? Brendan McLaughlin 142 Posted 26/10/2023 at 23:18:22 Sorry Don #141Where is the reference on this thread?I've only skimmed it and seen nothing but obviously as one ToffeeWebber to another you're going to point me to the post in question on this thread. No? Don Alexander 143 Posted 26/10/2023 at 23:21:56 . and a mere 10 days interest at 5% on £30mill is, you guessed it, £50k!But aren't such people luvverly fabulous eh? Brendan McLaughlin 144 Posted 26/10/2023 at 23:30:07 Don #143You are commenting on a thread in a far, far away ToffeeWeb?On this thread... not so much! Don Alexander 145 Posted 26/10/2023 at 00:14:39 Brendan, it's just possible I might have read the donor stuff on another thread! Sleep well. Brendan McLaughlin 146 Posted 27/10/2023 at 00:21:34 Don #145,Keep well... keep posting Dale Self 147 Posted 27/10/2023 at 19:30:30 Tonali banned for 10 months from an Italy decision. Paul Ferry 148 Posted 27/10/2023 at 20:04:18 A minute's applause for Bill Kenwright, I was not expecting that.
