Report Alcaraz comes up big in huge Everton win Michael Kenrick 15/02/2025 162comments (last) Crystal Palace 1 – 2 Everton After the intense last-minute drama of Wednesday night, David Moyes must reinvigorate his dwindling resources as the team head to South London and a televised early evening game at Selhurst Park. The impact from that midweek game which saw a vital point salvaged at the end includes medial ligament damage to Iliman Ndaye’s knee that will keep him out for an unspecified time, and that represents a massive loss to the limited creativity of the side. Also, Abdoulaye Doucoure misses the game as a result of the red card Michael Oliver showed him for celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans and then being assaulted by Curtis Jones, who was also show na red card. Ndiaye and Doucoure bring the total number of Everton players missing to nine: Mangala, McNeil, Chermiti, Broja, Calvert-Lewin, Patterson and Coleman are all out injured, leaving David Moyes with a few very limited options for adjusting his team selection to counter the threat that Crystal Palace present, with Charly Alcaraz given his first start, Harrison replacing Ndiaye. And there are now four young lads from the Everton Academy on the bench: Martin Sherif (18); Coby Ebere (19); Isaac Heath, (20) and Roman Dixon (20). Everton kicked off in the established manner, Pickford’s punt conceding possession, Branthwaite then trying to release Lindstrom. The early exchanges saw Alcaraz easily robbed but he did well to win it back moments later, then he was fouled in midfield. But Tarkowski put Branthwaite in difficulty, with Mateta the one to profit, Pickford saving his shot confidently, before Devenny did a reprise, forcing a similar save from the Everton goalkeeper. Alcaraz got Everton into the Palace penalty area for the first time but Hughes went for the ball as he made to shoot and the Palace man was given the debatable free-kick decision. Palace forced an attack but the ball was cleared and Everton tried to build with Beto testing Lacroix. Hughes was given space to shoot but finally closed down as he did, Everton living on their defensive wits until Beto almost released Alcaraz, getting his shirt pulled by Hughes – but no yellow card – nor when Harrison then caught Hughes. Pickford made a fabulous save when Guehi headed an excellent Lacroix cross powerfully at goal. Fromm the corner, Lerma powered his header into the net but the officials thankfully thought it had drifted out of play and VAR kindly failed to overturn the onfield decision, although it looked marginal at best. Everton finally got forward for a spell of play in Palace aresa. On the second attempt, Harrison put in a low cross that was slightly defected and evaded three Everton players looking to convert. But Palace responded, mounting a frenetic attack of their own, with Mateta fouled but advantage played. It was end to end as Beto cleared a Palace attack and then drove forward, the game being very competitive on both sides. Gueye won the ball cleverly from Hughes but Harrison could not follow through and Palace looked to break but Pickford was out smartly. Alcaraz set Harrison off again and his deep cross to Lindstrom was volleyed in smartly, Henderson and Lacroix colliding, with Beto going a fraction too far forward. Henderson needed treatment before the game resumed, Alcaraz snatching a chance to test him from distance, but not enough guile or power on his shot. Harrison got the ball and played it in for Alcaraz to have another attempt but this one was horribly mishit. Lacroix rolled a dangerous ball through to Mateta, Pickford out briskly to intercept. Place return with interest but it became messy in the Everton area and the whistle was blown. At the other end, Beto tried to cause more havoc but only fouled his man. Everton should have advanced from O’Brien’s interception but it was Palace who attacked again, the ball finally coming through to Pickford. Palace worked their way through the Everton defence, Richards forcing his way through and Shar rattling the bar with an incredible shot from close range when it looked easier to score. It seemed to shake everyone up and Alcaraz worked very hard to cheekily steal the ball at a Palace throw-in and play in Beto who squeezed it between Munoz and Henderson, into the Palace net for an excellent Everton goal to give them the lead. Mykolenko was chopped down, but Branthwaite’s free-kick didn’t quite reach Lindstrom. Palace were awarded a free kick in added time, Pickford catching it competently. It had been a very lively first half – made all the better by that splendid goal created by Alcaraz and finished superbly by Beto. The home side won an early free kick that forced a corner, the ball falling to Mateta after O’Brien and Tarkowski went for the same ball, and he slotted it past Pickford, confirmed after a ridiculously long VAR check. Everton tried toi respond but a lot of silly head tennis thwartred that, Eze showing how to progress the ball forward and shoot powerfully, just over the Everton bar. But Everton responded, Beto setting up Lindstrom for possibly his best shot at goal, anticipated brilliantly by Henderson, who pawed it away. Palace then countered, and forced a corner, with Everton’s defence looking shaky, having finally been penetrated. But still Everton pushed forward, Alcaraz having his shot blocked by Hughes. A great Everton move saw Lindstrom beat his man and cross to Beto who tried to be a little too subtle this time and Henderson and Lacroix somehow kept it out. Alcaraz was called for a strong shoulder charge on Guehi. Palace had been boosted by the goal and some key substitutions, with Everton struggling to adjust as they came under repeated bombardment. A n Eze corner was headed away by Branthwaite. Everton got forward, Gueye’s shoot deflected wide for an Everton corner but Place broke and Garner had to stop Eze, for the first yellow card of the game. Everton looked to build again but Harrison’s loose cross put an end to it. Palace countered and Chilwell’s shot across goal forced a fingertip save from Pickford and a corner that needed plenty of defending at was recycled a few times before going out for a goal kick. 70 minutes gone and still no subs for what must be an exhausted Everton side looking now to protect a precious point. But it was still really competitive in midfield, with Alcaraz almost chiseling out an opportunity that was blocked for Beto. Gueye stole the ball off Wharton and fed Beto but his cross cum shot was bneither one thing nor the other, and he was finally flagged offside. Ashley Young finally came on for Jesper Lindstrom. Branthwaite’s free-kick was Harrison, A cross was dug out to the far post, O’brine’s attempt came out to Young who’s shot bounced back off Wharton to Alcaraz who made absolutely no mistake to give Everton the lead again. Brilliant stuff from the Blues! Palace tried to respond but Beto threw himself in front of a defender, winning another free-kick, but it was wasted. Branthwaite needed to make a very clever intervention to stop Mateta without fouling him as Everton sought to take the sting out of the final minutes. Eze got free but fired wide across goal. The frenetic pace of the game would not let up though, with Beto and Harrison up for the chase to put more pressure on a very frustrated Palace side. Only 6 minutes added on despite 7 subs and 5 minutes for VAR. Beto did very well to win the ball high up and push it out to Young but he could not win the corner and Palace came back for more. A fantastic Palace cross in to the far post was defended brilliantly and Everton continued to battle for the ball against the .rlentless efforts of their opponenet =s. A fine Chilwell cross was headed away by Bramnthwaite, then Tarkowski was very smart in denying Mateta. The ball almost fell to one of three Palace players but it was belted away. The pressure on Everton was intense but Everton could finally celebrate a massive win. Brian Williams 3 Posted 15/02/2025 at 19:46:32 Michaeeeeeeeel! 💙 Jack Convery 4 Posted 15/02/2025 at 19:48:03 Thirded. Great report Michael. That's a great effort from thr Blues on the Road, after the exertions of the Derby. Have a well earned rest and come out all guns blazing against a very poor Manu. COYBs Colin Glassar 5 Posted 15/02/2025 at 19:52:31 Michael, come back mate. These newbies are killing your creation. Michael Kenrick 6 Posted 15/02/2025 at 19:56:06 Sorry about the typos! I tried to describe that winning goal... great finish — but so much luck in the handball from the defender O'Brien headed onto, then the dreadful shot by Young, into the ground, and off Wharton I think, straight to Alcaraz, who makes no mistake! And that bloody stupid xG — Palace twice Everton's. What nonsense. Charles Taudin Editorial Team 7 Posted 15/02/2025 at 19:57:48 #5 ColinThats why we keep MK in the team haha Colin Glassar 8 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:01:10 You live and learn, Charles. This has always been a very active site which never sleeps.Dont let it wither and die. Mike Gaynes 9 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:01:57 Wait a minute, whoa, who is this game reporter????????? Charles Taudin Editorial Team 10 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:06:02 ColinThat was never the plan to let that site die. What is the point to acquire a site and let it Die ? MK is part of a plan to give you more and more info on your beloved club. Building a team that has réal interest on Everton takes a Little time. But it is sorry the wait. Colin Glassar 11 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:07:29 All the best then, Charles. Bon chance Charles Taudin Editorial Team 12 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:08:16 Thanks a lot Colin. Your support and trust is Precious to us Gerry Quinn 13 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:10:02 Welcome back, Michael - as ever, a great match report from a die-hard - and I will always be grateful to ToffeeWeb, and will still be here (now and again when I can, as always), Charles Dave Abrahams 14 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:10:20 Michael (6) What kept you five to bleedin eight the match finished half an hour ago!I knew youd be back — great report as usual. I think a few of us will make Charles an offer he cant refuse! Charles Taudin Editorial Team 15 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:14:13 Ohhh Dave im curious now ! 😆 Si Cooper 16 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:14:41 Yaaayyy, MK in da house!I posted my general thoughts on the game on Conors thread so Ill just ask for one clarification on this one:Does anyone know why their goalie ended up restarting the game after he collided with his own player and another defender punted the loose ball out of play. I dont think the ref had blown his whistle before the ball went out and if the defender had (somehow) sliced the ball into his own goal under those circumstances surely the goal would have stood. One thing for Charles. It surely cant take too much time to keep the league table up to date? Not even updated after the midweek game. Charles Taudin Editorial Team 17 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:15:02 #13 GerryMeans a lot. Charles Taudin Editorial Team 18 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:19:13 #SiI am not in charge of technical stuff. Ive push the button on the back office but doesnt seem to work. Thats one priority on monday morning. Christine Foster 19 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:21:32 MK in the team is a cracking decision and go a long way towards the transition of ownership whilst keeping best in class reporting. Classic Michael, excellent report! Ian Bennett 20 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:27:23 You giving Moyes any credit for the turn around MK? Si Cooper 21 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:28:45 Thanks for the reply Charles.Davey Moyes seems to be thriving. Just watched his after match interview and it looks like hes shed 10 years somehow! Neil Tyrrell 22 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:28:56 Very happy to read another MK match summary but I feel like this one was submitted by an impostor, no mention of Beto burying YET ANOTHER one on one that DCL would have almost certainly hit straight at the goalie? Doesn't sound like MK to me! In all seriousness though, great to see you posting again Michael. And great to be celebrating another win with a centre forward that actually scores goals. Dave Abrahams 23 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:29:19 Charles (15) If youve got a horse Charles keep your eye on it! Graham Mockford 24 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:29:35 Michael KenrickNice to have you back but you may have been wrong about Moyes😂 Colin Glassar 25 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:37:55 Michael and I, and many more, were against Moyes returning to the club, Graham, but I think were all big enough to admit hes done a brilliant job so far. Long may it continue. Neil Tyrrell 26 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:42:09 Holding my hands up as another that was opposed to Moyes' return, even though Dyche had to go.I was 100% wrong. The results and performances speak for themselves. My sincerest apologies Mr. Moyes, COYB 💙 Si Cooper 27 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:53:55 Strictly speaking I wasn't against Moyes returning as much as I didnt consider he was clearly the only option (as some suggested) and had grave doubts that he could, some time in the relatively near future, absolutely transform the squad and take us right to the top.So Im not eating humble pie for a while yet. That said, he has done more in a short time than I thought even a manager of his competence would and so that 30 month contract doesnt seem to be over the top, as I did judge it to be at first sight. Brendan McLaughlin 28 Posted 15/02/2025 at 20:57:53 Delighted. An away victory and Michael back... ToffeeWeb is starting to look familiar again. Robert Tressell 29 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:03:45 Si # 27, noone believes Moyes will take us right to the very top again. That's completely besides the point. Anyway, brilliant away win. Lots of momentum in our favour and looking up not down. Relegation is not even an issue now. Looking up. Not looking down. Let's enjoy the rest of the season. Brian Hennessy 30 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:13:02 Beto scoring at will and MK back on ToffeeWeb, not a great day for DCL!Joking aside, brilliant to see you back on here Michael. Laurie Hartley 31 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:18:35 I am also very happy to see you back Michael - and the icing on the cake - to report a win on the road, in London, for the Blues. Barry Rathbone 32 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:22:02 The Beto ability to calmly pick his spot is a massive factor in the turn round and new boy, Alcaraz, looks another "proper" footballer. Include Ndiaye and the squad suddenly carries a threat.I've had a cream cake to try and assimilate the surprise. Andrew Clare 33 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:27:16 I was very much against the return of Moyes but after this incredible start I am beginning to question my judgement. Today Beto was incredible. Well done to him for persevering - he was having a horrible time under Dyche. Also a word for Alcaraz he is just the type of player I want see at Everton like Ndiaye he is young with bags of energy and football brain. It's becoming enjoyable to watch us play again. Micky Norman 35 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:28:26 That was the perfect Moyes team performance. Rode their luck at times but worked so hard to get the result. And what an education for the four youngsters on the bench. They will surely get some minutes soon to see if they are up to it. The lads did our fantastic travelling support proud tonight. Si Cooper 36 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:34:37 Robert (29), sorry but I dont believe it is besides the point when people were speculating on who would / should replace Sean Dyche. The only point worth debating at the time as far as I was concerned was whether anyone could even be guaranteed to save us this season. I thought even that would be a tough ask for anyone although I did believe it was possible.Fantastic job by Davey Moyes so far. Doesnt mean he was the only one could have done it and is no guarantee he will go on to exceed his previous best efforts in the future. Sam Hoare 37 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:42:41 Lethargic first half. Better in the second. Probably our least deserved of the recent 4 victories but still lots to commend and a hugely useful result.Relegation is now all but gone as a realistic possibility and the sights will be set on 11th-ish. I was pleased at Moyes appointment and obviously delighted at his start. Whether he is the optimal option for long term is not a question for now. No doubt there will be losses on the horizon and toothless days which will give the Moyes Out Brigade fresh life but for now hes probably already done the job that he was brought in to do and we will be playing Premier League football at Barkley Moore next season.Particularly helpful will be giving Thelwell (or whoever is leading recruitment) foresight of our situation next season and accordingly good time to plan this summer. Rob Jones 38 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:44:56 If he's actually given some money this time, Si, he might. But that's for the future. For now, I'll settle for not having my weekends ruined. He's far exceeded my best hopes. Tony Abrahams 39 Posted 15/02/2025 at 21:56:49 Im glad youre back Michael, because I love disagreeing with you sometimes mate. (This is probably the only thing we would agree on!)Soaking wet pitch, I saw nothing wrong with Youngs shot, especially when the defender could only block it into Alcatrazs path, rather than watch it blaze over the bar (which would have been pathetic) and just like the other night, Ashley Young has come on and made an impact.Incredible for his age and Moyes, is another who looks to have improved after accumulating a lot of experience👏 Si Cooper 40 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:02:17 Rob (38), plenty of money was expended on players (in wages) during Moyess previous tenure, just not much - nett - on transfer fees.Since the Bosman ruling was in 1995, Moyes wasnt as completely hamstrung by that policy as some people like to make out. Phil Smith 41 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:02:37 What a difference Moyes has made to my last few weekends. Proud to be a vocal Evertonian again instead of keeping my head down and swearing under my breath whenever someone mentions my beloved team. Defo. looking up the league now rather than down it. Brendan McLaughlin 42 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:05:54 So the "bin Moyes after six months" ?Just asking for a friend. Tony Abrahams 43 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:09:00 Moyes looks a lot calmer and he has also given the team a lot more assurance in a short space of time. The test will only come once he his allowed to spend a bit of money, imo, because once we improve, only then will we find out if he has got more nerve and the self- belief that is needed to win Peter Mills 44 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:25:12 Michael, this is a timely and fascinating intervention - good on you. Don Alexander 45 Posted 15/02/2025 at 22:57:32 Just what is this lovable beast called ToffeeWeb?Obviously Lyndon and Michael are devout Toffees and the credentials of the current site managers are unknown. That said, I am very impressed they have aligned with a 100% (sometimes contentious!) Toffee in publishing his match summary. Well done!Lyndon's contributions on TW would be welcome to me too, but for all I know he's "moved on" in his life and his published loyalties will be for others to try to find.Tonight's game was to me the epitome of what professional players should be doing as a matter of course. I'm made up that Beto is now starting to show himself to be a beast to opponents and I credit our latest manager and coaching team in instigating what is so good for him and us.O'Brien impresses me, and Branthwaite is immense (hats off to Brands for that). But then again Keiran Dowell of similar age to O'Brien impressed me before turning out to be a mere bog-standard player of hardly any interest to anyone at all of note (now aged 27, with a mere handful of Premier League games as a lad, he's quickly on lone from Rangers to third-tier Birmingham). And that comment causes me to ask if anyone is still interested in defending Finch Farm in terms of developing players of any real ability at all, or does Friedkin see what I see; namely a flatulent, bumbling, mediocrity inducing swamp of ineffectiveness that permeates the club from the heart and therefore largely throughout, despite the (very occasional) signing of a potentially game-changing player? Rob Halligan 46 Posted 15/02/2025 at 23:52:46 Ah fuck. if Mr Kenrick is still around then there's a very good chance that some of us could still be banned!! Rob Halligan 47 Posted 15/02/2025 at 23:56:28 Still another 90 minutes or so until we get to The Rocket, but overall a very enjoyable day out, but jeez, that Selhurst park is one crap ground!! Derek Thomas 48 Posted 15/02/2025 at 00:13:22 Why do I read the match report and have the Jimmy Helms song going round my head?"Gonna make you an offer you can't refuseGonna put my finger on you'Cause I need you soAnd I won't take no for an answer"Never mind, it doesn't really matter. What matters is Moyes was made an offer he couldn't refuse...and I have to say - I'm glad he didn't ( glances down at WHU...therein lies another whole discussion).I have to admit my memories of Moyes Mk I were clouding my opinion on the appointment of Moyes Mk II.You can only beat what is put infront of you, or so they say and over the last 12mths under their 'new' Coach...whose name escapes me at the moment (and to be honest, I don't really care)...Palace are (allegedly) worth 58pts from 38 games - so call it about 8th or 9th in the table.Given the limited choice from the bench...did anybody really think any of the 3(?) potential debutantes would get so much as a minute? No, me neither...Moyes played it exactly right** It was the ultimate QED; it was right because it worked and it worked because was right (some of us remember bringing Hibbo on at 1-1 Vs Spurs only to lose 1-2 but that was Moyes Mk I )It wasn't broken so he didn't fix it.KITAP1 became KITAP2Job done; Pickfork my MotM.Edit; How long this run goes on for (please, please, ffs, don't give Moyes The Manager of the Month thing - it's the kiss of death) who knows? How do we react when we do lose - as we will one day, again who knows? At what stage in the season will...hopefully not at all...the players realise they're safe, put on the mental sunglasses and flip flops and coast through the motions thinking of summer. For the answers to these and other burning question - stay tuned!Same Moyes time, Same Moyes Channel. Mark Murphy 49 Posted 16/02/2025 at 00:13:58 Great to meet you again Rob before the game. What a fabulous day all round. Its great to watch Everton away with confidence again. I wouldnt say we bossed that game but we certainly deserved the win.I, like many others, wasnt over the moon with Moyes appointment but Fcuk me - we are a completely different team since he got a grip. What a week for him, Beto, James Tarkowski and Charly Alcaraz, Charly Alcaraz, nanananananananah, Charly Alcaraz….and Davey Moyes, and US - the best supporters in the land!Everton are Magic!Love this clubXxx Mark Murphy 50 Posted 16/02/2025 at 00:18:14 Ive got to add - that final 5 minutes defensive resistance was absolutely fcuking awesome! They shalt not pass! And they didntUTFT Rob Halligan 51 Posted 16/02/2025 at 00:35:29 Likewise, Mark. I owe you a pint next time we meet. That last five minutes felt like five hours, but we dug in and got over the finishing line. Talk on the coach back home is of European football next season!! Joking of course, but it's a far happier coach journey back home than the majority of games this season. Paul Kossoff 52 Posted 16/02/2025 at 00:38:51 And Sly Stallone summed up Evertons win perfectly when he said, YO!!! Mark Murphy 53 Posted 16/02/2025 at 00:48:23 Rob, drink the Rocket dry!Just watching MOTD.See you at Brentford.UTFAwesomeT Andrew James 54 Posted 16/02/2025 at 01:15:35 The new writers on ToffeeWeb need our patience. They've come across as AI bots or whatever thus far but I am sure they will get a feel for it and improve. Onto the match, I gave us little chance today. Maybe because my only competitive match I have seen live at Selhurst Park saw us being thrashed by Wimbledon in '96. What I would say it that the recent results have made the Moyes doubters look particularly stupid and it would be nice if they swallowed their pride and saw the events surrounding his exit in context. But instead I keep encountering Toffees who now worship him despite being really derogatory only a month ago? Bob Parrington 55 Posted 16/02/2025 at 01:18:46 MoM Beto. Stand up and take a bow!!! Eric Myles 56 Posted 16/02/2025 at 02:34:15 DCL must be kicking himself, and probably missing the target ;-), that he didn't sign a new contract as now he may be surplus to requirements come the summer. Bob Parrington 57 Posted 16/02/2025 at 02:49:25 As I wrote on Michael's article---- "MoM Beto. Stand up and take a bow".I think this has been his best ever all round display. Oh, what a change in manager can do? Well dine Davy! Colin Crooks 58 Posted 16/02/2025 at 04:11:36 Great result. Great day. We deserved this. Moyes has been a lovely surprise for me. We keep getting injuries, but we keep on getting results. Cant argue with that.Good to see the ED back and read some wonderful happy posts, but you have got to laugh at post 45 - "Hats off to Brands for that" - Priceless. Paul Ferry 59 Posted 16/02/2025 at 04:15:49 Barry Rathbone, do you remember how you told us with great and repetitive authority day-in-and-day-out in one thread after another that no manager would ever get a tune out of this shit squad. Over and over again you lectured us. It was a key element of your Dyche is not to blame crusade. Put it all on the players. But you were completely wrong again.Something else for you to ignore. Steve Brown 60 Posted 16/02/2025 at 04:31:18 Sam @ 37, your faith is paying off on Beto. Play him through and he is deadly. A chance completion rate of 44% in the last 4 games. He works incredibly hard and has suddenly also realised that he is massive - he bossed Konate and VVD in the derby.Must admit I had written the guy off! Bob Parrington 61 Posted 16/02/2025 at 05:34:54 OOps! Mike Gaynes 62 Posted 16/02/2025 at 05:55:47 Bob, I trust he did dine well after the game!Steve, only once before in his career has Beto had a patch this purple -- 4 in 4 for Udinese three years ago -- but if you check out his highlights on Youtube you'll see him scoring recurrently in Serie A on defense-splitting runs just like we've seen in the past few games. It's his style. Eric Myles 63 Posted 16/02/2025 at 07:11:53 Mike #62, but now he's no longer an unknown quantity he'll be targeted in future games.Expect him to be stretchered off in the next Derby game. And no card given of course. Paul Ferry 64 Posted 16/02/2025 at 07:36:59 Steve Brown 60 - Must admit I had written the guy off!You were not alone Steve mate. To be fair, Dyches's handling of him was shocking, preferring the long ball to lonely DCL rather than for Beto to run on to. Beto must be on cloud 9 right now. He seems so confident one-on-one or with a defender to shrug off unlike, sadly, DCL. No way DCL would start now even if he was injury free. Kudos to Mr. Gaynes and others who stuck by him. If Broja had been fit in mid-January, it is likely that Beto would have been sold. Small margins. We would make a nice little profit on Beto if he could be sold on Monday. Sam Hoare 65 Posted 16/02/2025 at 07:50:49 Steve@60 Beto will of course drop off his current form at some point but Im so pleased for him. Seems such a likeable guy and I think he understandably was struggling with a lack of confidence and consistency. As Mike G points out he always did fairly well in Serie A even if he looked clumsy at times. Generally I think us fans could try and be more understanding of players individual circumstances but patience is hard when youve been fighting successive relegation battles! Steve Shave 66 Posted 16/02/2025 at 08:44:11 Sam @60 I was one of a few on here along with yourself and Mr Gaynes et al who had some belief in him. As you say, seems like a really decent fella too who genuinely has a passion for the game. In your post you write "generally I think us fans could try and be more understanding of players individual circumstances", bud that is understatement of the year. How many on here are quick to jump on players, label them as dogshit and then lambast them? Remember Iwobi? Pickford was widely slated on here a few years back, our most consistent performer over the last few years. I could go on and find other examples, then of course there are the players who were hounded out or turned on, some who couldn't wait to end their Everton nightmare. What I am trying to say is we have one of the best and most passionate fan bases in the PL, if we could stop with the player bashing (i know I post this all the time, sorry!) and utilise this to drive and motivate players then we would undoubtedly turn this ship around for good IMO. How we achieve that is a very complex thing. The toxic combination of historical expectations and many years of mismanagement and subsequent frustration are large contributing factors of course. I think Moyes (his detractors are very quiet on here at the moment btw!) has been almost flawless in the media since being re-appointed. I applaud his attempts to address the issue by mentioning the crowd and the relationship to the players. He is trying to re-unite us and them, something Dyche failed to do quite spectacularly. Dave Abrahams 67 Posted 16/02/2025 at 08:59:12 Tony (39), I saw nothing wrong with Youngs shot either,I always like to see plays blast it across the goal like he did with a packed six yard box there is always a chance of a deflection into the net or come back to a player who can hit it home. The calmness Young showed when he came on especially keeping the Palace player away from the ball and harness it out of play, there was plenty of panic in the Everton defence throughout the game but Young illustrated the way to play.He wont get but Young is my player of the season for his consistent performances right through this season and maybe the least mistakes. Nigel Scowen 68 Posted 16/02/2025 at 09:10:42 Si@21 Nice one Michael Kendrick. Good report. I noticed that too Si, it seems that Nosferatu has been banished. Ernie Baywood 69 Posted 16/02/2025 at 09:25:16 Dave #67 He was certainly calm and this may be the best way to use him. Contrast that with something that hasn't been mentioned... when Harrison was given the ball down the left side in the last few minutes. Just keep it there you're thinking. Not only did he immediately play it out for a goal kick, but he actually went and got the ball and returned it to the keeper! I can't quite figure out how people think Harrison has improved. He's still constantly losing the ball and he's not got much between his ears. Joe McMahon 70 Posted 16/02/2025 at 09:31:21 Apart from the result, the performance the icing on the cake, welcome back MK. Man we've missed you! Doesn't it feel better to win games again. Brian Harrison 71 Posted 16/02/2025 at 10:08:25 Michael said after day one of the new owners taking over they should employ you, glad they have done it.Getting back to the game, I thought it was obvious after the monumental efforts the lads put in on Wednesday, that they were bound to be a bit leggy, and probably mentally not were they wanted to be. Because of injuries and suspensions Moyes had very little changes he could make, but somehow he has got this team to get a result when not performing at their best.I know on his return Moyes said that we were getting a different Moyes than the one who left. I am sure he can still hand out bollockings when needed but he seems a lot calmer and more studied in what he does. I always wanted him back but I know many didn't, but even those that didnt must agree the difference has been remarkable. He has improved players individually and the team collectively. O,Brien couldn't get a game and while he will probably end up alongside Branthwaite he is doing a solid job at right back. But the player who looks transformed under Moyes has to be Beto, while we like he always gives his all many including me thought he wasn't up to Premier league level. How wrong I was and I doubt at present I would change him for any of the other strikers at the club. Who would have thought that after just half a dozen games we would be nearly safe from relegation. I think we can all look forward to our first season at BMD being in the Premier league. I get to see BMD on Monday along with the other 17,000 lucky enough to get tickets, cant wait. Kevin Edward 72 Posted 16/02/2025 at 10:38:21 Great to see Michaels match reports back on TW. Long may it continue. For the record, and based on the highlights, Moyes comments and most importantly Michaels report, looks like we were a bit lucky to get all 3 points. But winning builds confidence and no reason why we cant keep climbing. 30 points by mid Feb, its like a dream. But you make your own luck dont you?You cant score if you just sit back and defend, get up the pitch and things happen (Dycheosaur didnt understand this at all, was always looking for excuses for a defensive set up).Its a bit rough on DCL, but hes had enough opportunities. Beto has been clinical and his finishing has looked top drawer to me. Its early days but if he gets on well with Alcaraz then it could get even better.Up the Toffees and up the table we go! Jeff Spiers 73 Posted 16/02/2025 at 10:56:31 Brian@71. The captain of that team will be the first to lead an Everton side onto the pitch. What an honour! Would be a good pub quiz question for many years to come. Scott Hamilton 74 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:09:37 A PROPER ToffeeWeb match report. Nice!Looking forward to seeing the retraction of your anti-Moyes diatribe, Michael (wink-wink)! Tony McNulty 75 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:13:19 Glad to see you back Michael Scott Hamilton 76 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:21:00 I said in a prior post a few weeks ago that Id love to see Man Utd sucked into the relegation battle, or at least anxiously looking over their shoulder.I dont have any particular beef with their fans but I am sick to death of them hogging the sports pages and the media in general (other than the ongoing love-in for the Red c***s). Whether its months of speculation during the summer as to who they might sign; or the ins and outs of a cats of arse when it comes to something utterly unimportant that just so happens to relate to them. I think a certain David Moyes is also showing how shite Amorim is. With that squad, he shouldve turned the corner and be motoring up the table by now. Mark Murphy 77 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:22:52 “Kudos to Mr. Gaynes”Who are you and what have you done with Paul Ferry??UTFT Rob Dolby 78 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:32:50 Credit to Moyes and the team for digging in and grinding out a result. I think this was our worse performance under DM MK2.Palace could have been 3 up at half time if it wasn't for England's number 1.We got our act together a bit after their equaliser and looked a bit more organised, I think alcaraz didn't know whether to stick or twist a lot of the time but was Johnny on the spot with a calm finish to win us the game. He moves a bit like Alexis Sanchez with his low centre of gravity. Beto again making life hard for the oppo defenders something DCL hasn't done all season.Pickford my motm this time around. We got the rub of the green in this game which has eluded us for most of the season. Are we still riding the new manager bounce? We are functional at best which is an improvement on where Dyche was taking us.I do think there is a massive test ahead for Moyes this summer. Many out of contract in an already weakened squad.Makes a change but I am looking forward to the united game next week. Jerome Shields 79 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:34:03 I was just thinking earlier that I miss Michael's match reports, which seems to be done incredibly as he watches the game.So welcome back and very glad you are back.Moyes's loan spell at Manchester , London and Spain seems to have done him alot of good. Anthony Dove 80 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:47:18 What a relief. No, not the result but the return of MK.I was totally anti Moyes returning. After the brawl on Wednesday he probably thought hed died and gone to heaven.Doucoure would probably have passed that ball behind Beto. Anthony Dove 81 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:47:21 What a relief. Dave Williams 82 Posted 16/02/2025 at 11:59:29 I thought Young merely fired the ball hard across goal looking for a kind deflection but regardless what a great result. Looked jaded but picked it up second half. Alcaraz is a player, Beto proving so many of us wrong and OBrien showing what a good player he is.The one I am excited about is Tim- he has everything he needs to become a top player and Moyes will be good for him.I would add my greetings to MK- great to see you on board Michael!! Ben King 83 Posted 16/02/2025 at 12:26:08 Brilliant brilliant win: superb to dig out a victory after the energies expended on Wednesday. Beto was superb as was the midfield duo of Gana & Garner who never stopped running JB was largely excellent and we may have found one in Alcaraz!COYB! Sam Hoare 84 Posted 16/02/2025 at 12:38:00 Steve@66, indeed. Football is and always has been a conduit for the fans emotions; many positive but lots negative. Debating the merits of various players is half the fun but some take it too far and there are many other elements at play too. A much wider conversation to be had here! Dave Abrahams 85 Posted 16/02/2025 at 13:21:14 Sam (37)Yes it looks like we will playing football in the premier league next season but at Barkley Moore? Phil Roberts 86 Posted 16/02/2025 at 13:33:54 Glad to see you back MK as posted on another thread.Just now waiting for next week. Remember, we are Everton. United at home. Revenge for the drubbing at their place. Moyes able to sit with a smug face and should never have sacked me. Not a hope. You know the result. Dang! Sam Hoare 87 Posted 16/02/2025 at 13:41:19 Dave. Ha! May have had a few celebratory tipples last night. But sign me up for Betos Battleground. Genius. Andy Crooks 88 Posted 16/02/2025 at 14:23:54 Moyes back, Kenrick back, Everton back. How wonderful!!Humble pie time, I described Beto as Rondon without the skill and fitness. Well, how magnificently wrong was that. Beto has been superb, Moyes has been superb and Kenrick was man of the match. Well done Pete Moore, by the way, who has championed Beto as much as anyone. Danny O'Neill 89 Posted 16/02/2025 at 14:42:51 Sam @ 37. Let's not go there. I don't hear a Moyes Out Brigade. Just supporters enjoying watching their team again. Of course there were and remain options on the longevity, but this is the most unified we, as supporters have been in a while.Dave@67, agree on young. Not just last night, his experience shines through constantly. No prior connection with Everton, I wonder if he's thinking of a career in coaching?Charles, great move bringing back Michael. We all understand change and adjusting to change takes time. We can live with that and remain supportive. There is a place for both ToffeeWeb and Lyndon's new project and we all want both to succeed as they are complimentary rather than competitors.Where is my offer I can't refuse?!!Welcome back Michael, I still don't know how you manage those as it happens reports. I often have to ask who scored!!Finally, Mr Murphy. Never mind Rob. What about me?!! Great to see you both and the guy who shall now be known as Barry. Pub joke for those wondering wandering what I'm talking about. Those who understand, need no explanation as the saying goes!! Michael Kenrick 90 Posted 16/02/2025 at 15:10:14 Hi Danny,I think it's a side-effect of being stuck a long way from 'home' on the left side of Yankeeland for so many years, and only having a TV feed of the game to live off, with fortunately every single Premier League game available to watch live as it happens. (Still astounds me that they work so hard to prevent such freedom of choice here in this country…)You really do get spoilt by the in-depth, in-your-face, full-on coverage, with some dudes also telling you what's going on, and what the ref's doing, and why. Plus of course the fantastic immediacy and full-frontal exposure of the instant slo-motion replay. As for being there, only about 25 people who were sat either end of the goalline could have judged that Palace corner kick curved out before it swung back in and was headed into the net. Strangely, Premier League Productions or whoever they are never mentioned the critical role of the linesman in this instance: he was on the far side, but looking intently along the line, and raised his flag after the goal was 'scored', no doubt having a word in Anthony Taylor's shell-like as he immediately indicated no goal. I was going to say that was an example of the luck that usually goes against us — imagine that scenario playing out at Anfield! It would never in a million years be disallowed. But we rode our luck — fully deserved based on effort and commitment — and came away with 3 precious points. It may have been a 'poor' performance technically but for spirit, desire and commitment, I think it was exceptional. Bill Gall 91 Posted 16/02/2025 at 15:27:08 off topic but how come the L/Pool player wasn't booked for diving after the penalty given was overturned by VAR, great Wolves just scored Rob Halligan 92 Posted 16/02/2025 at 15:44:11 Michael # 90………we were sat right on line with the goal line, and as that corner kick came over I immediately said thats gone out of play. The right call by the linesman! Ian Bennett 93 Posted 16/02/2025 at 15:44:16 If the ball was out, it was at the beginning of the arc of cross. Them showing replays of the whole cross and commenting on it, kind of misses the point of that.I did think it was out. James Hughes 94 Posted 16/02/2025 at 15:56:49 Oh my word. WQatch Mitchell and wqebb slating the RS off, amazingfLink Tim Taylor 95 Posted 16/02/2025 at 16:04:24 James - fantastic! Jeff Armstrong 96 Posted 16/02/2025 at 16:50:11 James 94, they nailed them. Colin Malone 97 Posted 16/02/2025 at 17:18:25 Where's my posts gone? Colin Malone 98 Posted 16/02/2025 at 17:37:28 The match was yesterday and this match report has been put down the pecking order. What's going on????? I had to go to the bottom of the page to find the match reaction ffs. Mark Murphy 99 Posted 16/02/2025 at 17:41:16 Oh Im sorry Danny boy, did I not give you a mention? It was great to see you looking so well - when I woke this morning I wish Id followed your lead and done without the ale…Yes, Barry…. I get it. Rob has known him for ages but still doesnt know his name. He actually asked him twice yesterday but “Barry” just blanked him. I think he said something we would associate with another Barry on here so Rob christened him that.Re their disallowed goal, I was near Rob and everyone around me knew the ball had gone out. What we couldnt understand is why that Lino waited for the ball to hit the net before putting the flag up? We thought hed missed it. I understand why they keep their flags down in certain situations but the ball was out of play so no scenario other than a goal kick could result. There was also another strange decision on the other side of the pitch in the first half. One of our players, I think it might have been Lindstrom, won a strong tackle and we had the ball. The palace player went down and the ref stopped play, resuming with a drop ball. He didnt give a foul and the palace player wasnt seriously injured, so why did the ref stop play?? It totally stopped a possible attack by us for no reason that I could see? Si Cooper 100 Posted 16/02/2025 at 18:32:19 Mark (99), OBrien and their right back (Mitchell) bumped heads challenging for a bounced up ball at one point. Mitchell came off ‘worst but it was actually minimal contact so the players probably felt just a bit of a bump.Still enough for plenty of them to crumple to the deck these days, and the ref would have seen a head clash, but there was nothing that actually needed treatment. Mark Murphy 101 Posted 16/02/2025 at 18:41:26 Ahh, thanks Si - as I said, it was the other side of the pitch (half way line?) so didnt see it clearly, but that makes sense now. The craic.Keep that tongue firmly in you cheek Paul Ferry 135 Posted 17/02/2025 at 08:44:57 Phew. I didn't deserve that reassurance Mark. What I would give to be at an away alehouse with you, Rob, and Danny, or a County Road or Dock Road or town one. Eugene Stalker 136 Posted 17/02/2025 at 08:46:14 Colin & Paul I always enjoyed Patrick Barclay's articles. I remember him writing that he lent Peter Reid a Velvet Underground cassette tape during the 1986 World Cup and was astounded that Reid gave it back to him when he had finished with it. It was the first time that a footballer had returned anything back to him apparently. Paul Ferry 137 Posted 17/02/2025 at 08:47:02 Fair enough Colin. I'm more than happy to call it quits and get along. Paul Ferry 138 Posted 17/02/2025 at 08:49:36 Brilliant Eugene. Reidy does not look like the VU type. Nigel Scowen 139 Posted 17/02/2025 at 09:49:41 Colin @ 131Guess it was my time turn to get Ferried.Seems that Paul is the only one allowed to move overseas to further his career. Oh well lets hope he gets a good nights sleep. Barry Rathbone 140 Posted 17/02/2025 at 09:57:06 Paul FerryOf course youre in porn youre a complete dick and of course you didnt supply contact details because youre a cowardly keyboard warrior. You flat out refuse to chat with me but want my email to ring me, ha! - the rationale of an inebriated village idiot who thinks idiocy should be advertised..Any interested passers by who would like to watch events unfold (btw I havent offered to box his noggin off my gloves were hung up years ago if hes a good boy Ill just pat him on the head) my associate will film the event and post it on YouTube. Just need to find the cancerous buffoon.Any details to this email address pls - jackrodwell73@googlemail.com Conor McCourt 141 Posted 17/02/2025 at 10:38:02 Paul F- I really don't get why you seem to have this crusade to rub posters up the wrong way? Nigel and Mark aren't part of this little set two but you have the need to get personal with them? You label Barry as an aggressive little loner but I have always had a lot of respect for him as he goes against the grain and his views always reflect what he sees as being best for Everton and his frustrations always seem at how the club has been run and why his expectations can be viewed as being so low.In many of your posts and views I am in agreement with but although I have found myself in perpetual disagreement with Colin and Barry on things like the strength of the squad, the job Dyche was doing and what I View as him being bullshitting and being caught out regarding Jarrads injury, never once did those posters get personal.Even when I have an alternate viewpoint to yourself I like how you challenge my thought process and construct your argument. I'm thinking about your views on Thelwell here. The other day I proferred something up to get a thread going as the natives were getting restless. I got a lot of support and a lot of legitimate criticism. It was wordy, it was unprofessional, it was unresearched and mistake ridden.Only one poster yourself annoyed me by mimicking my use of the word 'fellas'. Even the point you made I had already addressed by stating that I forgot Doucoure was suspended. It therefore seemed a personal and petty post for whatever reason especially when there has been no animosity and often in intellectual agreement.I know posters love these kind of threads but others avoid this site because of it. I am guessing that's why Lyndon has gone his way. For me Paul I much prefer to see you in your element when on one and taking on all comers regarding Thelwell rather than this petty bollox. Nigel Scowen 142 Posted 17/02/2025 at 10:51:48 Nigel Scowen 143 Posted 17/02/2025 at 10:51:54 Conor@ 141Good post Conor. The thing is Conor, I made the mistake of telling this clown that my wife passed away 3 years ago so he decides its appropriate to bring her up in one of his vile posts.Youve crossed the line Ferry…..again! Nigel Scowen 144 Posted 17/02/2025 at 10:51:55 Conor@ 141Good post Conor. The thing is Conor, I made the mistake of telling this clown that my wife passed away 3 years ago so he decides its appropriate to bring her up in one of his vile posts.Youve crossed the line Ferry…..again! Laurie Hartley 147 Posted 17/02/2025 at 11:08:29 On a happier note Sky did a post match interview with Beto. I feel so happy for this lad. It starts about 4 minutes in.LinkNote Owen Hargreaves comment at the end Dave Abrahams 148 Posted 17/02/2025 at 11:18:13 Laurie (147), Thanks for that Laurie, Beto is easy to like as a man and hopefully keep scoring and hell make it easy to like him as a player. Barry Rathbone 149 Posted 17/02/2025 at 11:29:13 Conor, Nigel, kevin,Well said.People can disagree all they want it is the nature of the beast but there has to be respect afterall we're supposed to be brothers in arms.I wasn't going to put this on the forum but Ferry is going to squirm and obfuscate his way out of a face to face so these are responses he evoked in one weekend recently#1. I was asked an opinion by another poster and I gave it to them. but you (Ferry) decided you want to make unprovoked dig telling me my attitude on a footy forum doesn't help the club - Sigh I was going to retract from calling you a drama queen in retaliation, but you know what ? I think I'll leave that to others to draw their own conclusions about too.#2. Pretty much everybody here reached that conclusion years ago. I just laugh and ignore him (Ferry)#3. We all say daft things and we all get irritated with other peoples daft things, but we move on…… “X” is sound ….. Let it go. (Aimed at Ferry)#4. You (Ferry) do make a fool of yourself with you half-witted attempts to score points against people who have disagreed with you.#5. I know the life of a drama queen (Ferry) must get a little confusing at times when you're not quite sure who to be offended by, or outraged with, but if you (Ferry) cant find peace in your time. Leave me out of your petty vendetta's#6. I would not call someone cretinous in a vitriolic twirl without qualifying - or else I may claim youre (Ferry) a judgmental prick #7. Ive not called you (Ferry) an asshole. But your comment proves you are.#8. Simple to understand unless youre a muppet Paul (Ferry) and virtue signaling when called out.#9. This footy lark entails an awul lot more than sitting sniping at opinion you cant begin to understandMK doesnt always get it right but he was bang on saying this clown sees stuff he doesnt agree with and kicks off FAR TOO OFTEN. Steve Brown 150 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:04:32 Peace on earth everyone.Lets bask in the warm glow of 13 points from a possible 15. I may need to check myself into hospital to get the smile surgically removed if these results continue. Paul Hewitt 151 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:07:45 Laurie@147. Thanks for the link, what a great interview from Beto he now seems so happy to be playing under a proper manager. As fans I think we are to quick to judge players at times. Dyche never played him properly and would have probably sold Beto if he hadn't been sacked. The same can be said for Jack Harrison. A left sided winger who we played on the right, just crazy. Now maybe Harrison can now show he's better than he's been showing now he's playing in his preferred position. Ian Jones 152 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:11:34 At one point I was expecting Trump to get personally involved to Make ToffeeWeb Great Again. However, by the look of the spats going on here ToffeeWeb is well on its way to returning to normal. Nigel Scowen 153 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:12:28 Paul@151Agreed mate, so much want this guy to succeed, maybe he doesnt have all the attributes of a top striker but he is making up with that with effort. As far as Harrison goes, did Leeds under Bielsa play him on the left or the right? Dave Abrahams 154 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:33:53 Steve (150)Steve I dont think it will take the smile off your face but it is thirteen points from a possible eighteen, oh and a cup loss thrown in.Im very happy with those thirteen points though! Derek Knox 155 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:39:42 Hi Dave, Thirteen games left too, if we could average (I know) at least half of those available, it would put us not only well safe but in a decent standing in the Table. Let's start on Saturday. Andy over from Belfast and Peter up from Worcester, we plan to go to Wetherspoons first for a brekkie then on to the Harlech, be great to see you mate. Mind you, early kick-off (12.30) for that one ! Dave Abrahams 156 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:56:07 Derek (155), Jesus Id love to meet you, Andy and Peter on Saturday morning, no promises but Ill do my best. Let me know which Wetherspoons, the one in the Precinct although I remember meeting Andy in Yates at the bottom of the precinct for one game, handy for the bus or a taxi. Nigel Scowen 157 Posted 17/02/2025 at 12:56:22 Barry@149I doubt he will have the bottle to meet up with you Barry, bullies, especially keyboard ones, dont when they are actively fronted up face to face. I just hope he changed his trousers before going to bed after Marks winding up. Cluck, cluck, cluck 🐔 🐓 ‘Im more than happy to call it quits and get along after Colin had carved him a new one, was a TW classic.Do send in the video if it does ever happen though, I think there will be a few very interested to see it. Steve Brown 158 Posted 17/02/2025 at 13:11:07 Haha Dave, I am screening out the results I didnt like! Dave Abrahams 159 Posted 17/02/2025 at 13:27:06 Steve (158)Fair enough thats one way of looking at it, maybe remember the losses and look at the improvement after them! Barry Rathbone 160 Posted 17/02/2025 at 13:43:59 Nigel 157You are spot on his type never face up. What a disgusting piece of work Ferry is referencing your dearly departed wife the cowardly hole is a wrong 'un from tip to toe and I strongly suspect he's a congenital liar. It beggars belief that he is an educator.Imagine the lunatic trying to deal with students disagreeing with him!!Mind you I imagine in real life he's a little church mouse frightened of his own shadow. Nigel Scowen 161 Posted 17/02/2025 at 14:38:48 Barry@160Weve all seen ‘em before Barry. A complete Tit.My new partner does the same job as him but here in the UK at a British University, she finds it absolutely incredulous that he is what he says he is, though she did caveat it by saying everyone in the States is pretty much called a Professor in education. He called me Highfalutin excessive exegesis, but then kind of ruined it by calling me a divvy beforehand 😂.Did you see over the weekend he extended an olive branch to Mike Gaynes with ‘Kudos to Mr Gaynes after completely annihilating him for the last 6 months, or sorry, trying to.Pity he shit out when you made your offer of a visit. Tried to make it all about sitting down to dinner. All mouth, I was hoping you would leave a little bit of him for me. Well done you, Colin and Mark all did a proper number on him there mate, comedy gold for TW.Can we please be mates now Colin 😂🤣More mixed up than the Beverley Hillbillies. Derek Knox 162 Posted 17/02/2025 at 23:12:25 Dave Ah we were thinking of Thomas Frost's (Wetherspoons, City Road Walton) then not too far from the Harlech, same side just further up on County road. I understand that walking can be a problem, I suffer myself at times. Hope to see you mate but understand if you can't. Dave Abrahams 163 Posted 18/02/2025 at 12:31:45 Derek (162) Thomas Frosts yes I know the gaff Derek, easier than going to town, do my best either there or the Harlech.
