Ian Mills summarizes today's Everton-related news and rumours

 9 July 2001

Not much flying around today, just bits and pieces...

We start with the news that Michael Ball has reportedly turned down Everton's offer of a new contract.  That's what the Echo said anyway, but other reports say that he is still stalling on a deal and is expected to make a decision in the next two days.  Chelsea and Liverpool are on standby if and when the news comes through that Ball has officially rejected the deal.

John Parrott, a lifelong Evertonian, has been talking to Sky Sports about our chances for the new season.  His personal view is that Alan Stubbs is a good buy, we should have more scousers in our team, should buy a new striker and a couple more midfielders, but the bottom line is that we are going to struggle.

No real names being linked with Everton today; Talk Radio said that unsettled midfielder Eyal Berkovic is looking for a move back to England. As Everton have been linked with him in the past, I am sure it won't be long until we are being linked again.

Anyway, that's it; its been a slow day, but at least Barmby's injured!
