Everton in for Wolves's Coady

| 04/08/2022 28comments  |  Jump to last

Everton are again being linked with a move for Conor Coady, with Sky Sports claiming that the Blues want to sign him before the transfer deadline.

Frank Lampard already has five senior centre-halves on his books and although there has been reported interest from West Ham in Mason Holgate and the club are prepared to listen to tempting offers for Yerry Mina, there don't appear to be any moves imminent for Everton's existing defenders.

Coady, meanwhile, still has three years remaining on his contract at Molineux where he is club captain so would likely not come cheap, although there are suggestions that the Midlands club could let him go, perhaps on loan, to further his World Cup prospects.

Who next ?

Buffalo Bill Cody !

The transfer Activity at Everton, despite various Managers, has all the biological stains of Bullshit Bill over it. What an Anti Everton figure despite his proclamations that he does everything in the interest of Everton. Does everything to suit himself and stay in the limelight.

Lime-lights went out of fashion years ago, and so should he have !

If True, and let's face it, it's the summer bullshit fest,

Thelwell's Wolves connection makes these rumours more plausible, the player must have been sounded out about it.

Something doesn't stack up here, club captain, 3 years left on his contract, and talk of a loan deal. It's all very weird, has there been some kind of falling out between him and the club? Been rejected when asked he for an increase and his toys are scattered around the pram?

Wolves have 6 centre-backs in their squad, having just spent 㿁M on Collins from Burnley. Rumour has it the manager wants to go back to a back 4 and stop playing with 3 centre-backs.

Coady wants to go to the World Cup and is concerned he won't be part of the new centre-back combination going forward. Apparently this is why Wolves are prepared to let him go at the right price.

I can't see them letting him go for less than 㿊M. If we are interested, then one of Keane, Mina and Holgate needs to be worried. It might also explain why we let Branthwaite go on loan.

Coady in; Holgate, Gomes and Davies out. Leaving options for a more balanced squad.

I'm a bit confused... why would he have to come here to bolster his World Cup chances? I thought he was their Captain and a pillar of their defense? All of a sudden, he's the odd man out?

I've read he's keen to return north, Everton have a long standing interest and Wolves are keen to promote Kilman.

Does sound a bit strange. But Jack #3's reasoning is plausible. If it does happen, I for one will be delighted. Especially if it's accompanied by the departures of some of those mentioned above.

Elsewhere, I hear Amadou Onana is another potential signing. No striker yet though.

We are overloaded with centre-backs. I think we'd have to offload Keane or Holgate, or have a buyer lined up to push ahead with this one. He's certainly an upgrade on the former two.

Can't see this happening.

Surely if we've got the £20(+)m we'd need to buy Coady, it should be spent on forward options.

We're absolutely desperate for forward options.

Stocking up on more CBs would be such a small club thing to do. We should want to be better than that - and protect our defence by giving the opposition plenty to think about.

It's difficult to believe the media, in terms of Everton transfers, but let's see, but hopefully Everton will turn up on Saturday and get stuck into Chelsea from the start.

I've a good feeling that despite the setback of DCL, Everton will have match winners in our duo signed from Burnley.

Both look like footballers, early days and true faith in EFC.

If two of Holgate, Keane and Mina could be sold to cover the cost, this wouldn't be bad business; especially if Welsh is ready to step up and challenge for a place too.

Paul [11] “Everton will have match winners in our duo signed from Burnley” I hope you are right as Burnley only won 7 PL matches last season.

Getting him in will improve the back line. The two midfielders we are linked in will also improve the team and hopefully prevent it being so wide open through the middle.

Wolves had a solid season off the back of conceding very few goals. They didn't score many, but if they got ahead in a match they were very hard to break down. They scored less than Everton but conceded far less.

The forward line is concerningly lacking, but for seasons it has been too easy to sit back against Everton, win the ball in defence and simply put a couple of passes straight through the middle.
With a stronger line up in the CB and CM at least there is a foundation to build from.

I don't know. He's a red-hot rs fan so he could be like some 5th columnist like the FSW was. Operation Destroy Everton emanating from Mordor.

So are we going from having a dozen number 10's to a dozen centre halves? This doesn't make any sense to me unless it means the likes of Keane, Holgate and/or Mina are to be sold.

Cody is not as good as we have now.
Needs to play in a five because too slow and lacks mobility.
Even Holgate who has the concentration of a goldfish is better because he is quicker and can also play as a right back.
Unless we are planning to get rid of both Mina and Holgate then why should we bring in another average player just to keep up the numbers.
We have a very poor scouting system who's first port of call seems to be every Wolves player, followed by looking at who other teams are after, then offering a bit more in wages.
Need a clear out of scouting staff and a DOF who can actually find some decent players by putting in the hard graft.

Agree this only makes sense if there are departures in the offing. Have to assume this is independent of / won't impact any attempts to bring in striking options.rnrnThe RS fan background shouldn't matter one bit for a professional footballer. We've had players from them before who have performed well for us. Benitez didn't fail because he was deliberately trying to. He failed because it was always going to be a difficult job and he would never be a fan favourite and given time unless he performed minor miracles.rnrnOn Coady's actual ability... seems steady if unspectacular. Seems to be combative and a leader so those qualities are welcome. An upgrade or just a stop-gap if a couple leave? Only the future will tell.rnThe two midfield signings could make a huge difference if Gana retains his ability to graft and Onana is an upgrade on what we have.rnThe right exits to balance the books and a goal scorer any time before the window closes and this transfer window could end up as a very beneficial one.

Must be a hangover / bug from the server migration. I'm not selecting bold and trying to put in some spaces to break the post into paragraphs.

Any relation to Keith Coady/Cody of Halewood who I believe once represented the IoM at international level?
It's a small world, eh.

2 centre-backs injured in one game. Can't believe our luck. I think we must get him now and a striker.

Coady is immobile and can't play in a centre-back pair and can't play in a high line. Sounds a lot like Michael Keane to me. We've got our centre-back leader now in Tarkowski.

Hope the rumours of us paying 㾸M for him are way off. Better uses for that money.

Rumours that Coady will sign early next week, for a fee of around 㾸M. Him and Tarkowski will add some steel to our back four.

Along with Patterson and Mykolenko, we could have the making of a decent back line, albeit for only a couple of years or so, given the age of both Coady and Tarkowski.

But it's the here and now we should be concerned about, not the future, and we need to bring stability to the club before moving to the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Forget about any sell-on value for Tarkowski and Coady. Let them forge a strong relationship and bring stability to our back four.

Rob, I'm not sure Coady would make a solid back 4. He's played almost exclusively in recent years in a back 3 or 5.

He's not well suited to a back 4 which is one reason why he's been dropped at Wolves.

If he's available on a free or a loan, then sure but, if we're spending money, then I do think there are better options out there.

I'm warming to this signing, after Godfrey's and ol' biscuit legs' injuries yesterday, I am convinced it will now happen. If we get him, Onana, Gana or Gilmour, and a striker then there have to be some outgoings.

I would personally keep Holgate as he is at least mobile. I'd look to try and keep some money from Keane and Davies, Gomes and Gbamin likely to only be loans. I hope we can get them off the books.

Weird pre-season but then this is Everton.

Looks like this one is pretty much done.
Hoping it's the quoted loan with view to buy rather than money upfront.

After some researching on his role with Wolves, he plays in centre of the back three because of his good reading of the game. He is very vocal and will give instructions throughout. Right-footed. Thelwell signed him for Wolves and speak highly of him.
