TFG may have found Everton’s new CEO at Leeds United

20/02/2025 13comments  |  Jump to last

It is being reported in The Telegraph that Angus Kinnear, who is currently CEO of Leeds United, has come to the attention of The Friedkin Group, with some claiming that negotiations are ongoing for him to replace Colin Chong at Everton.

Kinnear, an experienced football executive, has been a successful chief executive at Leeds for nearly 8 years, is often outspoken,  and has shown he is prepared to engage directly with supporters.

Kinnear has extensive experience of new stadium moves, having been commercial director at Arsenal when they moved to the Emirates Stadium in 2007.

Before Leeds he was managing director at West Ham United when they took their tenancy of the Olympic Stadium, a deal so beneficial to the club some considered it effectively the gift of a free stadium.

He joined Leeds in 2017 and was running the club with former owner Andrea Radrizzani when Marcelo Bielsa won promotion in 2020, ending a run of 16 years outside the Premier League.

I thought David Weir would be the logical choice but maybe Friedkin is already looking beyond Moyes.

Colin. Angus Kinnear is coming in as CEO. I think Davie Weir is being lined up as sporting Director.

I presume Chong will deployed elsewhere within the club, he’s done a great job under difficult circumstances.

Jeff #5, Colin Chong's expertise is in construction rather than the running of a football club, although he HAS done a great job up to now.

I'd expect him to be looking at a role in stadium development for an upcoming World Cup or similar event to progress his career in his field, rather than being shoe-horned into something with us.

I went to university with Angus. He was a good guy and a pretty decent footballer as well. Luton Town fan. Not seen him for over 30 years so not claiming to be a close confidante like.

Met him a few times Angus, good marketer ex Arsenal too, works well with owners, low key type. Think he would work well at Everton. The search firm charged with finding the CEO know him well too and placed him previously. (Nolan Partners), run a by a scouse blue Paul Nolan.

Do any of you have insight as to Angus's current contract with Leeds and, so, whether or not we would have to pay substantially for attracting him to Everton???

I wouldn't worry too much about that Bob, unless they are asking you for the money?

I'm not going to claim to be much of an expert on CEOs of football clubs but the number of Leeds fans offering to pay his taxi fair to Goodison on social media does not fill me with a lot of optimism.

TFG were prepared to let Sean Dyche carry on as manager until he threw his hand in which makes me think who is advising them about the running of Everton FC on the field and off it, but for those who are grateful that Moyes is now manager they have Sean Dyche to thank now he is here.

It sounds like a pretty sound and wise appointment. as far as I'm concerned. After all, foitball executives that can handle a character like Marcelo Bielsa do not exactly abound. May be achong can take the opposote route.,should Leeds object to the move.
