Season › 2024-25 › News The Rumour Mill Everton learn price tag of striker target Thierno Barry Harry Diamond | 05/06/2025 7comments | Jump to last Everton would need to pay a fee of €40m (£33.6m) to sign Villarreal forward Thierno Barry this summer. Barry is one of several targets David Moyes is considering, as the Blues look to bring in competition for Beto in attack. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future is yet to be resolved and Armando Broja’s injury-hit loan from Chelsea will not be made permanent. Barry is a player Everton have watched closely this season. The 22-year-old impressed at Villarreal after joining from FC Basel last summer. He scored 11 goals in La Liga as the Spanish side secured Champions League football for 2025/26. Villarreal are keen to keep Barry at El Madrigal, though a release clause in the player’s contract opens up an opportunity for Everton. TEAMTalk claim Barry can be signed for a fee of €40m (£33.6m). The 6ft 5in forward is currently with the France squad preparing for this summer’s u-21 European Championship. Last season, Barry ranked eighth in La Liga for aerial duels won and in the top one percent of forwards across Europe for percentage of aerial duels won. Other Premier League sides are also reportedly weighing up a move for the French forward, including Aston Villa. Disclaimer () Ajay Gopal 1 Posted 05/06/2025 at 16:31:24 Genuine question: is this guy hugely better than Chermiti? No way to know for sure, of course, and Chermiti has missed a large part of his development due to injuries, and ideally we send him out on loan and he come back ready to compete for the main striker role. But, why not see how Chermiti fares in the pre-season and then decide if we want to shell out such huge money on an unknown player in the league? I wouldnt mind if we get DCL to re-sign, and we have our CF options to be: Beto, Calvert-Lewin and Chermiti. They wont win us the league or a cup, but there will be an option to correct course in the mid-season transfer window. I just think there are more important positions to address - backup keeper, right back, right winger, central midfield, a playmaker, a centre back if Keane leaves the club. Jay Harris 2 Posted 05/06/2025 at 17:02:36 Ajay,Robert Tressel rates this guy very highly so thats good enough for me.I agree Chermitti has looked promising but well have to trust Moyes judgement on that one. Robert Tressell 3 Posted 05/06/2025 at 17:04:17 Well only know in a couple of seasons Ajay. I think its fair to expect Barry to be better now - because hes had a good couple of seasons in Switzerland and Spain under his belt. Chermiti could be better in due course but its vital he plays a lot of games this season otherwise hes just stagnating. A loan beckons Robert Tressell 4 Posted 05/06/2025 at 17:05:42 Jay on Barry, Im not at all convinced hes better than Beto. He could develop but he doesnt look an especially polished footballer just yet. Mark Murphy 5 Posted 05/06/2025 at 17:26:48 IF DCL stays and is back up to Beto with Chermiti as 3rd striker I dont see a new striker being the priority. What concerns me is that Chermiti seems to be perpetually a “future prospect” rather than ready to step in to the first team squad. Ive seen talk of him going out on loan again. So the question is, is he really all that??IF DCL goes then yes, this Barry fella looks a good option. Personally I think Beto can get 15-18 goals with a good run in the team. Paul Kossoff 6 Posted 05/06/2025 at 23:16:16 Come on Harry, where are you getting all this info from?I heard Mesi is definitely coming to us, and he's buying the dock next to BM and turning it Into a Heli pad to airlift all the blues to the game free using giant military helicopters bought from the Argentina army, with free cake, honest !!! Eddie Palin 7 Posted 06/06/2025 at 13:34:54 Come on, Paul @6, do you think we are stupid? There is absolutely no way we will get free cake.
