Season › 2012-13 › News Alex Ferguson talks up influence of David Moyes at Everton Simon Stone, The Independent , 8 February, 13comments | Jump to most recent "They have a genuine chance of being in the top four," said Ferguson. "The title race is between ourselves and City, but after that you've got Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and even Liverpool, who are starting to get more consistency after that result last weekend. "But Everton are there on merit. "They are a difficult opponent. They have only lost three games, so they are obviously hard to beat. "And that's in the mould of David Moyes. "He's made gradual progress because when he first took over he didn't have any money to spend. "Given time you can do these things, which is the great value Everton have got out of David - each year he has progressed to good levels." » Read the full article at The Independent Reader Comments (13) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Mike Gaynes 2 Posted 08/02/2013 at 20:37:53 Not if you ask the Moyes Out brigade on this board, Trevor. Our resident geniuses don't think Sir Alex has the slightest idea what he's talking about. Roman Sidey 3 Posted 08/02/2013 at 20:57:08 None of what is says is wrong, but he always does this when we're about to play them. Honestly, he's not making any revelations, it's just repetitive football rhetoric. But, I guess rhetoric is the new currency in the media isn't it? Brian Waring 4 Posted 08/02/2013 at 21:07:54 Ferguson does this all the time, when Wenger stopped being a threat to the Manc's he couldn't speak highly enough of him. He was going on about Rodgers the other week, saying Rodgers was going about it the right way bringing the young players through etc. Ian Bennett 5 Posted 08/02/2013 at 21:21:45 I'd far rather being called a long ball pub side come 6pm Sunday. I don't think he would be quite as complimentary if we get ought. Brendan McLaughlin 6 Posted 08/02/2013 at 21:20:00 Brian W...seriously?Ferguson thinks he has to psyche us out? Now that's what I call R..E..S..P..E..C..T John Crook 7 Posted 08/02/2013 at 21:32:34 I remember listening to Radio Merseyside for our last win there. How fast 20 years goes by... It's still hard to take in the difference now between the clubs. Not what Man Utd have achieved but rather how far we have fallen away from them. We had a superior W D L record against Man Utd up until the the start of the Premier League era. Seems to have gone a little pear-shaped since.... BUT we are due a win. Attack, attack, attack is the best way to get at Man Utd on their crappy pitch. Exactly how Soton did the other week. Fair enough, they lost but they put Man Utd on the cosh for most of the game. We have more quality than Soton and this is a chance to show it. We are due one! I repeat... WE ARE DUE ONE! Kevin Tully 8 Posted 08/02/2013 at 21:57:00 I have never, ever, heard another manager have anything but praise for the opposition.Stock soundbites range from: "He's doing a great job up there" or "They are always a threat, they have some good players."This rule of thumb applies if they are up against a conference team in the FA Cup or Real Madrid in the Champions League. So I wouldn't get too hung up on press conference blurb. Brian Waring 9 Posted 08/02/2013 at 22:08:20 Brendan, no he's not trying to psyche us out, as Kevin said, most managers praise each other. Moyes was talking highly of Lambert the other week, a manager who could take Villa down. Roman Sidey 10 Posted 09/02/2013 at 08:43:15 Brian, but if SAF is praising Moyes, then we should be happy and lucky we have him and never criticise his management. Dennis Stevens 11 Posted 09/02/2013 at 11:41:56 It seems to me that these patronising platitudes are generally the order of the day unless there is any sense of actual rivalry & then the tone changes somewhat & can lead to the mind games & sniping that I can only recall happening with Moyes when Benitez started getting twitchy at the realisation RS were no longer one of the 'Big' teams in the league &, like ourselves, they're just battling to be the 'best of the rest'. Kevin Hudson 12 Posted 09/02/2013 at 14:38:01 I agree with Mike Gaynes, but I also share Kevin Tully's viewpoint.Alex Ferguson certainly knows his onions, but I have never heard any manager come out and state that they think an opposition manager is garbage, ever.. Colin Glassar 13 Posted 10/02/2013 at 10:52:06 Fergies always like this when he views the other manager as a no-mark. Once they become a threat he becomes a vicious, mean spirited thug who likes to bully everyone in the league.
