Everything going through Ross Barkley in the first 20 minutes. He's looking to get on the ball at every oppotunity and alongside Francisco Junior Everton have controlled the middle of the park. Shane Duffy captains the side and, though largely untroubled, seems in command of the back four and always talking to those in front of him. Up front, Vellios has been fairly invisible. Doesn't seem to be giving it 100% to be honest. McAleny has looked sharp. He and Junior seem to be made out of elastic. Good finish from Lundstram. He got better as the half went on. Sam Hoare 2 Posted 17/02/2013 at 16:08:28 Good work Phil. Backs up what I have thought before, that I'd rather see McAleny in the first team than Vellios.Wonder if Moyes will surprise us all by giving one of the youngsters a start this weekend? John Gant 3 Posted 17/02/2013 at 16:12:05 Phil, our man in Southport... can imagine you sporting a pair of headphones and a sheepskin.. Harold Matthews 4 Posted 17/02/2013 at 17:05:37 Nice report Phil. We will definitely need one or two of these youngsters before the season is over. Phil Sammon 5 Posted 17/02/2013 at 19:24:45 Second half was much the same as the first. The pitch was cutting up but Barkley, Junior and Lundstrum did well to keep the passing going.Lundstrum's long passing, in particular, was first class. Strikes the ball well with both feet and his vision to spread the play was very impressive. Took his goal well in the first half too. Decent low, hard strike from inside the box.Junior is a very gifted lad. He is ridiculously agile and some of his footwork was a joy to watch. He picked up a yellow card in the first half and could quite easily have had another. He seemed to have absolutely no concept of 'taking it easy'. But fair play, he was aggressive, tenacious and full of quality for 90 minutes.Vellios was taken off and replaced by Courtney Duffus (pronounced Doo-fuss, much to the delight of a young lad sat in front of me). Vellios was poor, but didn't recieve a cross all day. Duffus was similar. Ran a lot but not much else. The game's real moment of quality resulted in Barkley's goal. Junior won the ball with some great skill on the halfway line and released Barkley down the left channel. He drove into the box and side footed past the keeper from a tight angle. He was given too much space but he certainly made the most of it.I'm trying to restrain myself from heaping praise on his shoulders, like so many before, but Barkley was head and shoulders above everyone else - and I say that while also being very impressed with Junior and Lundstrum. His technical ability and dribbling were literally bringing a smile to my face. He danced round players like they weren't there and his body strength was too much for the opposition to handle. On a couple of occasions he isolated a man on the wing and absolutely blitzed him for pace. He's not a winger...but of have him there over Naismith. Great performance. My only slight disappointment was McAleny. He's one of the most natural young finishers I've seen at Everton in years and yet he's stuck out on the left wing. It's a real waste because he's got a lot about him.Really enjoyable match anyway. It's free to get in for season ticket holders with was a bonus. We have some exceptional young talent at the club...I hope we see some of it make the first team. Stuart Mitchell 7 Posted 17/02/2013 at 20:05:21 Lundstrum sounds like a real talent, Watched him for the England u21s and was very impressed with his passing and long rang shooting, also has good feet. Stuart Mitchell 8 Posted 17/02/2013 at 20:07:48 u19s I meant. Ian Allaker 9 Posted 17/02/2013 at 20:22:09 Isnt his sister the loud one off desperate scouse wives? Steavey Buckley 10 Posted 17/02/2013 at 21:04:19 It is a pity Barkley did not play last night. He has nothing to prove by playing for the Under-21s. Eugene Ruane 11 Posted 17/02/2013 at 21:45:37 Thanks for the report Phil, sounds like a good win with some good performances(look forward to your reports on Barkley next year when no doubt he'll be playing for the under-22 side) John Gant 12 Posted 17/02/2013 at 21:55:21 Under-43 side, Eugene. Steve Edwards 13 Posted 18/02/2013 at 18:05:28 I just can't believe that Naismith is a better bet than Barcley playing wide right. It's just unbelievable, Naismith is one the worst players that I've ever seen in blue jersey. He got nothing especially playing wide right. Moyes must be having a laugh by playing him. Trevor Lynes 14 Posted 18/02/2013 at 18:14:35 How did Stones play ?
