The 39-year-old will succeed David Weir in working under his former teammate, Alan Stubbs, in developing those players who have come through the Academy or are on the cusp of the first team in the revamped U21 level within the club. Unsworth was himself a product of the youth system, making his debut in the 1991-92 season before eventually cementing himself as a first-team regular in the Everton senior squad, lifting am FA Cup winner's medal and earning recognition at international level for England. On his return to his boyhood club, the ex-player nicknamed Rhino said: “It means the world to me, this club. I came through the ranks at Everton and I lost count of how many seasons I spent here. “Every time you go back to Goodison you're made to feel very welcome. You're never forgotten as a player here and there's not many clubs you can say that about. “So it's great to be back but I'm here to do a job, I'm here to work and I'm here to pass on anything I can to these young players. “I'll be working my socks off for Alan Stubbs and the Under-21s — and the Academy as and when I'm needed — and that's a nice feeling. “It's definitely a case of being back home and it's an absolute honour to be asked. “It feels like the first day back at school again and I've seen plenty of familiar faces already. To be honest, it feels like I've never been away.” Quotes or other material sourced from Liverpool Daily Post Unsworth talks on camera at Finch Farm David Unsworth on coaching in The Telegraph About these ads © ToffeeWeb
