Season › 2013-14 › News Duncan “made up” following move to first-team coaching duties Lyndon Lloyd , 26 February, 0comments | Jump to most recent Duncan Ferguson says that he is absolutely delighted to have been handed the chance to join Roberto Martinez's backroom staff, describing his new first-team coaching role as a fantastic opportunity. The former Blues Talisman has spent the last couple of years cutting his teeth assisting Kevin Sheedy in the Academy ranks but he is now ready to step up to the senior level, something he is really looking forward to. "I'm absolutely delijghted. It's a fantastic opportunity," he said in an interview on evertontv. The idea was to ingegrate me into the squad [coming up to the first team once a week for the last four months] and I was made up when they decided to make it permanent." Ferguson's appointment has been met with near-universal approval from the fans who remember him fondly from his days as the Blues' bamboozling centre forward in the 1990s and early 2000s and hope that he can translate some of that attacking passion to Martinez's current firing line "The fans have been unbelievable towards me," Ferguson beamed. "They have been from day one, to be fair. The feeling's mutual. They're special, special people." The 42 year-old Scot has been dedicating himself to his coaching duties and that commitment has not gone unnoticed at Finch Farm. "When you come into coaching, you've got to work around the clock and get as much education and knowledge in as you can," he continued. "I enjoy being here. Where else do you want to be?" "The people at the Academy have been brilliant. Sheeds really put me under his wing. I'll miss the kids." "It's a great challenge to be back at the cutting edge of the Premier League. It'll be an emotional time to get back in the dug out. "The manager is emphasising that we can push hard for the European places and we still have the FA Cup. It's all good — let's just hope I don't mess it up!" Quotes sourced from evertontv About these ads © ToffeeWeb
