Oviedo reveals setbacks in his recovery

Bryan Oviedo has described how he was forced to stop his rapid rehabilitation programme in order to allow his body to rest following his operation to correct the double-leg fracture he suffered in January.

A decision on his ability to participate in the World Cup was originally scheduled to be made at the end the month but Oviedo announced his disappointing news over Twitter on Sunday night after it became clear he wasn't going to make it.

Speaking to Al Dia in his native Costa Rica, the 23 year-old revealed that injury is still causing him a lot of discomfort and he was forced to take a break even though it means he will now miss out on next month's tournament.

He explained that he has tried to endure the pain for the past month but every time he moves his body suffers and it got to point where he realised he wouldn't make it in time for the Finals in Brazil.

"I tried to endure pain for the last month but whenever I move the body suffers. I tried to force myself to recover, but my body could not take it and I had a lot of resentment when it came to training. I think it was time to stop and rest in order to get better," Ovideo said.

He will now focus on rest and recovery at home in a bid to be fit for the start of the new Premier League season in August.
