Oviedo ready to start against Barnsley

Bryan Oviedo will be handed his first competitive start since the Europa League win against Young Boys in Bern after gaining full fitness following a foot fracture.

Roberto Martinez has announced that the Costa Rican will be in the line-up at left back to face Barnsley in the Capital One Cup second round tie against Barnsley at Oakwell tomorrow night.

"Bryan Oviedo will start," Maritnez said in his press conference at Finch Farm this afternoon. "It will be a good feeling to see him back – he has missed out on a lot of football. He has been working hard.

"He's fully refreshed, desperate to be on the pitch. He feeds off strong feeling with fans."

Oviedo had to be withdrawn from that round of 16 first leg match in February with a hamstring injury and then suffered another setback in April when he fractured a metatarsal bone in training. He was sidelined for the remainder of the 2014-15 season but featured briefly in Scotland during pre-season and as a late sub in the first Premier League game of the season, against Watford.

In the wake of Leighton Baines's own injury setback almost on the eve of the current season, Martinez appears to have been more cautious with Oviedo, keeping him out of the team until he was completely ready.

I wish you all the luck in the world, Brian. Heart of a lion, and a man who always gives his all, in the royal blue jersey, I hope you can get back to where you was before that disastrous injury, you deserve it.

Could play at CB then - as we have nobody else.

Reading between the lines of RM's rhetoric regarding squad strength and team selection I won't be expecting a trip to Wembley this year either. Let's have a go all out for a change and give the fans something to cheer. I'm sick of being short changed.......

Besic, Barry, Holgate or Browning at CB?
Barnsley will be laughing!

I'd rather have Barry at CB than midfield.

Be interesting how we line up, would have expected maybe a Browning/Stones partnership but possibly now Jags instead with Stones left at home cooling his heals.

Welcome back, Bryan. Great to see a true blue Evertonian back in the fold. Give 'em hell amigo! As for CB, why not see what Holgate is made of. Turn down Stones's transfer request and put him on the bench.

Good news at last, really like this kid. Hopefully he can get back to his pre injury form.

Needs to make the LB spot his own for the next couple of months.
