Reports: Funes gets green light to sign for Everton

Ramiro Funes Mori will finally be unveiled as an Everton player tomorrow according to reports claiming his work permit has been authorised.

The Liverpool Echo have lent credence to an earlier report in The Mirror that the defender's waiting for approval to play in England is over and the player himself has now told Argentine sports media that the deal is done.

Everton have had the deal with River Plate as well as terms with the player done and dusted for a while now and were confident that he would qualify under the new employment rules despite having only played once for his country.

Surely this is either finalized or close to it by now?

I suspect that might be what this thread is about, Jim!

Amazing that this was done on a bank holiday when everything is closed.

I thought it was his FIFA clearance they were waiting on?

I'm not one bit bothered how long this deal has dragged on for as this lad is simply back up. So long as the deal is done in the allocated time I will be happy.

I've said many times we have 3 talented young centre backs chomping at the bit, I'm convinced at least one of them will be more than ready to act as back-up next season.

Mori is a younger, cheaper alternative to Johnny Evans and Scott Dann, plus there didn't seem to be many other options available to us.

They won't actually unveil him tomorrow in person as he's away on international duty now. All the pictures and interviews were done days ago when he signed his deal over the weekend, we've just been waiting for international clearance.

But for me, we've waited to announce this deal on deadline day so it looks like we're really busy when we sign him, probably Lennon and one more player?!

Thats right Colin. Now lets see who else we can bring in? The Polish winger? Lennon? Mertens?

That's our Mori...

I'd say Lennon and A N Other to come in tomorrow. God knows who though. With a bit of luck, McGeady will go so we can stop having to see how shit he is during the occasional cup game.

Tick Tock...

If we sign Lennon, that had better be our 4th signing of the day.

Aidy (8),

"We've waited to announce this deal on deadline day so it looks like we're really busy when we sign him"

I don't usually go in for club-bashing cynicism, in fact, I usually react against it, but I have to admit I had the same thought the other day.

£9.5m?!! Seriously?

Funes Mori for a fee of £9.5m on a five-year deal? Must be ready for the first team, for that sort of money.

There seem to be very mixed feelings about this guy. Maybe Michael and Lyndon can commission a Mori Poll?

Sorry........

£9.5m! Holy shit! All of a sudden we bought a real player and not some dodgy stop gap!

Really? £9.5M?

£9.5m? Very fishy this one. The Argentine press (Clarin, Nacion etc...) have been reporting for days that the deal was $6m plus add ons. Very suspicious that WE publish exact amount paid. Hmmm, smells like a rat.

So he plays for the Argies (recently) and has scored 6 goals in 72 appearances? As opposed to Jags making 246 and scoring 10. But we could just slag the board... the player... the manager?

"Very suspicious that WE publish exact amount paid. Hmmm, smells like a rat."

Yes, Colin - 'undisclosed fee' does seem to be the norm with us, disguises all manner of funny little conditions we have built in to payment structures, adds ons, etc.

Whats the betting that £9.5m includes initial £5m fee (paid in installments), plus add ons AND includes his full wages for the five years at about £50k p/w.

Makes it sound like we've made a big(ger) signing and cushions the blow of no more arrivals????

Call me paranoid but....

Daily Mail reporting that the price went up 50% at last moment. Maybe they smelt our desperation for new players. Only time will tell if we've overpaid but there are some good CBs around for 㾶m.

So we are calling him Funes Mori? When that is the combo of paternal & maternal in Spain.

Just for reference, Arteta's full name under that system was Mikel Arteta Amatriain. Yet we just called him Arteta.

So... is it Funes? Or Funes Mori? (Either way, I don't think it's just Mori, but stand to be corrected). I guess we'll have to check out the shirt...

Michael, if we're going to call him Funes I will look for the Gendarme of Saint Tropez every match...
