Everton submit plans for Holy Trinity statue

The much-anticipated statue honouring the achievements of Everton's famous midfield trio of Howard Kendall, Colin Harvey and Alan Ball came a step closer this week.

The club has filed a formal planning application with Liverpool City Council for the statue's installation in front of St Luke's church at the corner of Gwladys Street and Goodison Road.

The statue's location is shown in the above image from the planning application (© Condy and Lofthouse Ltd.) but he visual does not appear to depict the final design of the representation of the players themselves.

The Everton Fans Forum has been leading the initiative to have a monument commissioned of the Holy Trinity over the past year. It would be the second statue to be erected at Goodison Park following the one of Dixie Dean outside the stadium's gates and will also be sculpted by Tom Murphy.

I think it might look better outside the gates of a shiny brand new, 60,000 seated stadium.

I like the idea of the statue, but aren't we are meant to be moving soon?

Wait and have it outside the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

I hope planning applications like this from the club are not indicative that we are a long way from moving.

Is it going to be portable?

I'm all for the statue, but isn't it a bit disrespectful to put a statue of our secular "Holy Tinity" outside the front of a church? Has anyone asked the local diocese what they make of it? I hope we have got their blessing on the idea prior to submitting planning permission.

Whilst it's a nice idea, it's again another example of living in the past and putting too much historical focus in the modern era, which for 30 years now has produced virtually nothing.

Why not a statue of our current squad, just to emphasize what they are not doing?

And is there one for Unholy Trinities i.e. Schneiderlin, Williams and Cuco Martina?

Life should be about balance, shouldn't it?

What took so long?

48 years too late!

@7 Jim

That's unfair to Martina. In spite of playing in an unfamiliar position, he put in a shift and was reasonably reliable. Can't fault him for not going foward like Baines as he is not a natural left wingback. Imagine the stick he would get if he got caught out while joining in the attack.

Why would you apply for planning permission to erect a statue outside a stadium you are getting ready to leave?

Perhaps they are going to put the Holy Trinity on wheels... in which case, it will be more mobile than our current midfield.

About fucking time... three of the greatest Blues ever, who helped shape our great club.

Let's get back to being a club with real class!

Why not put it on the pitch alongside the other 11 statues.

What about a tribute to the Deadly Duo — Schneiderlin and Mirallas?

Redevelopment of Goodison it is then.

Too little, too late and in the wrong location. Maybe this would be better sited in the walk-up to our new stadium, along with other great players of the past.

Maybe a vote for which players should be next to be honoured?

Better late than never.

This phrase could be our motto. Statues, stadiums, investment, managers, hopefully at some stage trophies.

Stay positive, stay patient. The next few years will be slow but hopefully we can look back in 10 years time and realise this time frame under Moshiri's money was the start of something special.

I believe we are in a much better position than 10 years ago despite so many uncertainties and the current 1st team and manager.

The words 'move' and 'on' are not on the agenda, it seems, once more. Surely all focus should be on a new dawn away from these tired streets? Oh, I forgot the well-oiled EitC legacy rap.

Said statue is going to look a bit daft when the ground has been dismantled. Furthermore, it will look somewhat odd in its planned location in the middle of the road!

So, like self-driving cars, here we have the world's first self-driving statue! To await the instructions to drive on down to the Dock Road, when and if...

Only right, I suppose, as the three great players to be championed in stone were the driving force of that great team of 1969-70.

The biggest indication yet that all is not well for Bramley-Moore Dock.

Why oh why are we getting planning permission for a statue outside our soon-to-be-defunct stadium?

This is the sort of thing that should be incorporated outside Bramley-Moore Dock.

Let's face it, we ain't moving anywhere and stupid plans like this make me even more certain.

The reason, Daniel, is that it is part of the legacy that will be part of the area around Goodison Park once the move goes ahead. Whether you believe it or not, there is a plan for the current site that doesn't involve selling the land to the highest bidder.

In addition to the new stadium, it could be that there are plans afoot to have something at Goodison Park to help the legacy of Everton being there... so perhaps we need patience to find out what is happening and trust our club to do the right thing. The church in the corner is also part of Goodison history and I guess we are not taking that with us.

If there is something planned for Goodison, then having the past represented there is probably apt...

A great idea for the new stadium, and on another site near by I'd like one of Young and Vernon. The William Dean statue should be moved there as well.
Worried that this announcement signals a problem with the proposed new stadium.

At the AGM in January Professor Denice Barrett-Baxendale showed plans of what the area where Goodison Park will look like after we move to Bramley-Moore Dock. It will consist of three blocks of flats, each with a name to do with relation to Everton, a park, something's else.

I was losing interest by the second, I just wanted the professor (of what?) off the stage... Anyway that's where the statue of Ball, Harvey and Kendall will be going.

It hasn't been decided yet but I can tell you now Kenwright will be doing the unveiling of the statue; I can also tell I will not be going to the unveiling..
