Calvert-Lewin out for the last three games

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss the last few games of the Premier League season as well as the Under-21s tournament on Toulon because of a back injury.

The Everton and England U21 striker has suffered a stress fracture to a vertebra that will require rest between now and the start of pre-season.

Calvert-Lewin has played 44 games in all competitions for the Blues this season, many them as a starter in the early part of the campaign before Cenk Tosun was acquired in January.

After today's news from Allardyce, I reckon most of the crowd will be out for the last three games.

Love this kid. Comes out of a U-Squad to hold his own in so tough a league.

Raw? No question. But I see nothing but up-side for his future.

Break will do him good, he put in a shift for the u20s last year and done more than anyone expected for us this season.

He will come back stronger next season.

Good to hear this. he needs a break. he's played football for past two years with a decent break. Win win for him and EFC.

I'm one of his biggest fans. This kid is going to be as good as Sharpe.

He's been overplayed this season for his stage of development. Too many games, too much responsibility, and he's simply not ready physically. The club is to blame for this injury in my opinion. They've let him down.

Will never be as good as Sharp, not good enough for the premier league. I don't see a goal scorer in him at the top level.

Young players go up and down in form. At his best this season he was very good. City away probably the highlight.

I'll be intrigued to see what happens when he adds a bit more to his frame. Probably needs a loan at a decent level (Championship) to work on his finishing. Strikers get 1 chance every few games at Everton - nowhere near ideal for his development.

He's had a really good season, in fact a good couple of years and I'm sure there's more to come from this lad.

His finishing should improve with a bit more experience. For a right footer be tends to shoot a lot with his weaker left foot not sure why but he needs to improve power and accuracy.

Good training, coaching and game time in another 2 years, when still only 22 I think we will see a top striker.

I like using the loan system to develop young players but I'm not sure it will do him any good. He gets game time and so it's a matter of hard work and taking his chances.

This is presuming we get a manager or coach to help improve players technicaly i.e. probably not Sam.

Really like how hard Calvert-Lewin works, but it is amazing how we seem to prefer a worker than a finisher given the stick Lukaku got.

I'd like to see DCL stay at EFC to develop, no need for a loan. We have Tosun who is obviously first choice given the price we paid - but if he hits the form we all want him to, like many before him he'll be off.

Keeping DCL and giving him sub appearances and Cup-game-time will keep him hungry, and hopefully mean he's ready to be our #9 for years to come.

I really rate Dominic Calvert Lewin.

He is 6'2” tall. He's a big lad. At 21, he's probably finished growing. But he's not yet filled out. He's got the frame for a much bigger guy. I don't think he's going to turn into Anichebe, but I do see him adding weight and strength.

He's one of our fastest players. So adding weight is not necessarily a good thing, so perhaps the club is working with him to keep him slim.

His first touch is very good. He brings the ball under control better than Lukaku. He's got as good a first touch as any number nine we've had in the last 20 years.

He is a competent passer. He lays the ball off well and short passing is decent. He doesn't need to hit long passes. In this regard I'd rate him better than Lukaku again.

Dribbling is also a strength of his. He is not as good as a winger like Lookman or Bolasie, but he is competent. He can carry the ball and shield it and at full pace can beat a man. Whilst he seems to have better ball skills that Lukaku, the goal against Chelsea is not one that Dominic could have scored. Not only does he lack the strength, he can't go past defenders like that and we'll come on to his finishing.

His flicks and tricks show that he has a level of skill that most of our other strikers do not. He's done a few good backheel passes and these little things combined with his passing create openings for others. Look at the Everton assists Column. Last seasons best asister was Gylfi. So we spent a fortune on him. He's got 3. No one else beats two. That is except Dom, he has SIX, so double Gylfi. Which shows just how effective he is as a creator up top.

One of his biggest strengths is his aerial ability. He's the best striker at heading the ball since Duncan. I'm surprised we don't hear more about Duncan trying to make Dominic into an even better headerer of the ball. He's got a good leap, he's strong, he's big and he seems to hang in the air. I do expect more from him though.

The big negative is his finishing. He's not scored enough goals. His technique can seem a little forced. He lacks the composure he had at youth level. Remember this is the lad who scored the winner in the World Cup final. Sure his shot was saved by the keeper but he was composed enough to steady himself and tuck away the rebound. He was prolific at youth level. He's found playing the top level defenders a big step up. But he can get better rediscover his composure and finishing and start scoring again.

If not, well Duncan is a legend. His goals To game ratio is similar. Why can't Dom play up top and win the ball, hold it up and bring others into play. If he plays as the middle man of a front three, why can't someone like Walcott score the goals instead?

I've big hopes for Dom. He's had a good season of progression and there's more to come. He needs to get fit and have a good pre-season.

Would loan him out in the summer along with Davies & Holgate, ideally to Championship clubs to gain more playing time & experience.

I believe all three would improve & come back better players.
