Season 2021-22 Opinion Talking Points A Look Back at Everton' Top Players of 2020-21 by Gary McCarty | 16/02/2022 0 Comments [Jump to last] Since forming in 1878, Everton FC has won nine Premier League titles, with their last one being in 1987. Since then, the highest they have placed on the table is fourth. Interestingly, the only teams to have higher win counts than Everton are Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool. Even though Everton haven't been doing too well in the league recently, there are still a handful of top-tier players to mention. With this in mind, we are going to take a look back at Everton's highest-performing players of the 2020-21 season. Let's dive right in.James RodriguezWith a player rating of 7.24, which was the highest in the Everton squad for the 2020-21 season, James Rodriguez lifted the team to the top of the table within the first month. In the first six games of the season, he had scored three goals and assisted with a further four. Unfortunately, this clear winning mentality didn't last long because he hasn't been able to replicate the drive. However, there is no denying that this former Real Madrid midfielder added quality to the team. Unfortunately, after many availability issues down to injury and Everton's need to maximise their resources, James Rodriguez parted ways in September 2021 and joined the ranks at Al-Rayyan. If you are a fan of the player, you could still place a bet on him as his team is competing in the Qatar Stars League. You won't need to worry about your online safety when you find a site through OnlineCasinos because all of their reviewed betting sites go through a rigorous verification process.Dominic Calvert-LewinMoving onto players still playing at Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the second-highest performer of the 2020/21 season and had a rating of 7.21. As well as breaking ground at Everton, Calvert-Lewin joined the ranks of the England international squad in 2020. This phenomenal player is a towering man, coming in at an incredible 6-ft 2-in”; his best performances take place in the air. Within the Everton squad, Calvert-Lewin has the highest aerial rating, with 4.5 wins per game. In the 2020-21 season, these aerial stats saw him place third in the league, which makes him a pivotal player within the Everton line-up. In the 2021-22 season, Calvert-Lewin has played six games and managed to score three goals out of a total of 19 shots. Lucas DigneFrench left-back Lucas Digne secured a player rating of 7.08 for the season, which places him in the top three Everton players for the season. When he is on the pitch he displays impeccable technical skills, excellent pace, and a knack for delivering quality balls from the wide area. Digne is never afraid to get stuck into a tussle and had one of the highest tackle counts in the squad (2.2 tackles/game). If you want to get into the numbers, Digne only lets the ball get dribbled past him 0.9 times a game. This number is lower than the likes of Joao Cancelo and Sergio Reguilon, who play for Manchester City and Tottenham, respectively. During the current season, Lucas Digne has played 14 games and hasn't scored any goals yet. However, as a quality defender, his worth isn't measured in goals scored. When it comes to clearing goals, Digne has seen the ball leave danger zones 29 times. Unfortunately, he has managed to score one own goal - a mistake any defender looks to avoid. RicharlisonRicharlison is a versatile attacking player who is considered to be one of Everton's greatest threats. His player rating for the 2020-21 season was 6.99, which made him the 4th-performing player for the season. When it comes to minutes played, he has only been outshined by Michael Keane. Averaging around 2.3 shots every game, Richarlison is seen as Everton's driving force. In the last season, his shot metric came in only second to Everton strike hero Calvert-Lewin. As well as being great at firing shots at the goal consistently, Richarlison is a highly skilled dribbler. Unfortunately for him, this trait makes him Everton's most-fouled player (average fouls 2.2/game). In the 2021-22 season, Richarlison has appeared in 13 matches for Everton and has found the back of the net four times. With much of the season still left to play for, only time will tell if he can outdo his impressive stats from the 2020/21 season. Michael KeaneMichael Keane is a central player in the Everton squad and easily wins the contest for the most minutes played in the squad. Despite having a player rating of 6.91, he is considered to be one of the most consistent performers on the squad. As a testament to his skill, he became a regular fixture on the England squad under Gareth Southgate. As a centre back, his aerial ability is the highest, with an average of 2.9 wins per game. He plays his part extremely well and is able to clear goals at a phenomenal rate of 4.5 per game. Further, Keane intercepts the ball regularly and comes in at 1.5 interceptions per game for the 2020-21 season. In the current season, Keane has played in 19 matches and has successfully scored one goal. Although this appears low, his job is to keep the ball away from his own goal. Across his 19 games, he has managed to rack up 76 successful clearances. The Everton football club has a rich history and holds one of the highest counts when it comes to Premier League wins. Unfortunately, whether due to funding or issues with the upper management, Everton has struggled to make it to the top of the table. Despite this, Everton has excellent players on their team, including stars capable of placing within the England international team. Currently, Everton is 16th in the league table - all we can do now is look forward to seeing how far they can raise their position.
