Season › 2024-25 › General Forum No pre-match fire By Philip Lockett 01/09/2024 5 Comments [Jump to last] Hi, As someone who enjoys the music at the ground leading up to kick-off and getting the crowd revved up, why has this time gone so bland? I imagine it is down to the new presenter. I always looked forward to this every game but I'm already thinking, can you get the other fella back? It's just not the same anymore. Disclaimer () Paul Kossoff 1 Posted 06/09/2024 at 09:39:24 Philip, All music is subjective to the listener, you can't please everyone. When I played in bands you would always get the odd one, or nuisance come up and ask for a song you had never heard of. "Excuse me, can you play Any Umbrellas by Umberto?" "Never heard of it, mate," I'd say. "Fuck off, then," the irate punter would shout. I've noticed that too many clubs are playing music, mostly crap, far too loud to even talk. My choice would be mostly from the '60s and '70s with some Free Hendrix etc. With near everyone having a phone that can play anything to near concert quality sound, then I think that's the best thing for you: take your own playlist to the game. Interesting point though. Barry Rathbone 2 Posted 06/09/2024 at 10:03:10 We need a choir and band plus a competition for song writers to pen new numbers to rev it up and keep it fresh. It's one of the things we could learn from our American cousins.Who said scantily clad cheerleaders?Well. John Raftery 3 Posted 11/09/2024 at 21:01:15 I don't think the change of presenter has made any difference, good or bad. The music before the club anthems has been rubbish for years. And deafening. Back in the '60s and '70s, we made our own atmosphere at the Street End where you could barely hear what was being played over the speakers. Now, it all feels artificial with the crowd numbed into comparative silence by kick-off. Bob Parrington 4 Posted 19/09/2024 at 11:25:21 Paul, I'm a bit late on here but I like what you are posting. Liven it up. Bring an additional zest in to the pre-match music. We'll need it when we move to BMD.Might be a challenge to many but, should we replace Z-Cars. It's getting worn out.In my mid-70s, so might not be the right person to suggest suitable songs. Currently Meatloaf with Two Out of Three Ain't Bad might be worthwhile but "Oops, Ned Kelly moment". Aussies will appreciate that. The classic disco Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Show would be relevant because we certainly are in a time warp and it's a great wind-up. Not sure if there is enough room at The Old Lady to do the steps to the left and the right, though. Sure would get some excitement in the crowd, me thinks. Michael Kenrick 5 Posted 19/09/2024 at 13:58:27 Bob, perhaps thie lesser-known Meatloaf 'classic' Out Of The Frying Pan (And Into The Fire).
