Everton U21s lose at home to Southampton

Everton U21s 1 – 2 Southampton U21s

Everton U21s were defeated at Finch Farm by a second-half goal after they had equalized just before the break against Southampton on Friday afternoon.

Will Tamen made his first start since suffering a long-term injury in August; Kingsford Boakye – in his first start of the season since recovering from a long-term knee injury – was forced off the field after just 25 minutes before The Saints scored their opener.

Braiden Graham equalised in the second minute of added time, following in from Benjamin’s deflected effort, which careened up into the air and dropped for the young Irishman to chest in on the goal-line.

Justin Clarke – in fine form for Everton U18s – was introduced for his Premier League 2 debut with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Everton U21s: Barnsley, Samuels-Smith, Thomas, Tamen (80’ Finney), Welch, J Patterson, Barker, Bates, Benjamin, Graham (71’ Clarke), Boakye (25’ Gomez).

Subs not Used: Leban.
