The Trouble with Bill...

The debate — and the complaints directed at ToffeeWeb for both providing a forum for the discussion while choosing not to sit on the fence on the issue — surrounding the merits and de-merits of Bill Kenwright's tenure at Everton has continued long after the EGM that the Board no doubt hoped would dampen the criticism of the Chairman from some quarters.

In many ways it did. The short-term plan that Kenwright put forward a month ago answered many of the questions the fans had about his immediate ambitions for the club and desire to address the critical financjal issues facing the club. It's now a question of waiting to see if he can deliver on the promises made that evening; in many ways he simply has to or his position will become untenable.

We get a lot of angry e-mail sent into the site by people asking why we seem to be so negative and anti-Bill. Personally, I have no axe to grind with Kenwright other than wanting him to follow through on his promises, but I do have serious misgivings about his record thus far. That's not negative — in our society, criticism is healthy and in this instance it keeps the ambitions of the fans at the forefront of the minds of the Board and lets the powers-that-be know that their every move and motive is being scrutinized.

So, in the spirit of clarification, perhaps an open analysis of Kenwright's tenure on the Board is in order.
