Lundstram on target in U19s victory

Everton's John Lundstram scored for England U19s as they beat France 2-1 to comfortably win Group B in the European Championships in Estonia.

Lundstram was the only one of the four Young Blues to start and he rewarded manager Noel Blake's faith by driving home the opener from 20 yards after 16 minutes.

France equalised just past the half hour but Harry Kane restored the Young Lions' lead shortly before half time.

Everton Academy players Hallam Hope and Luke Garbutt came on as second-half substitutes, the latter excelling in particular in keeping the French at bay down England's left, and the Young Lions held out for victory.

The fourth Everton representative, Ross Barkley, did not see action this time around.

England will face Greece in the semi-finals, while France will take on Spain.

Cracking strike from the lad. Just a shame Barkley didn't play.

Hmmm... evidence to some that it's not just Moyes who doesn't think Barkley is quite ready for the big time?

Yes, I think that his form has gone downhill since he did well pre/early season and was then abandoned to the reserves. He played well in a few matches but not consistently.

He needs to up the pace of his game and make it happen or he'll just fade away.

No, he started the first couple of games. I think Blake just rested a few of the lads tonight. Garbutt was only a sub too. I also think he wanted a bit more in the way of discipline against a good French side. Barkley will develop into a good player. I know Moyes wants him in cotton wool, but if he's not in our first team then surely we should get him out on loan.

is it possible to watch this tournament online?

No it's just on Eurosport. They've decided to only show one game so far which frankly is a joke. I'm sure they'll screen both semi's and the final though

Phil #951 That's the problem, he should be developing into a great player.

All the reports on Lundstram seems to show an excellent array of passing and he can clearly score.. We are all focused on Barkley... But I'm very interested in watching how this young lad develops!!

All the games are on Gol TV in the States. Watching a re-run of the
French game right now and, guess what, a creative looking England
team with width and depth, we just kill some of these genuine young
talents at club level
