Moyes remains upbeat on Pienaar

David Moyes says that a deal to bring Steven Pienaar back to Everton is close but nothing has been concluded yet.

The Everton boss said after today's friendly draw with Motherwell, "I think we are much closer to Pienaar and hopefully in time I will have something, but I don't quite have it yet."

The Sowetan report that the 30 year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Blues and is now just waiting for the move to be completed.

Speculation varies between £2.5m and £5m for what the fee for the South African will be, with the general consensus appearing to be that the sale of Joseph Yobo to Fenerbahçe is key to the deal going through.

God it does make you realise how bloody dire our finances are when we can't even stump up £2.5M.

Hull just bought a player for over £2.5M and they are in the Championship!

Now if only someone at the club could negotiate a sensible sponsorship deal and a kit deal that pays more than £500k a year then we could keep the banks happy and bring players in..

Luckily we have BK working 24/7... I feel better already!

You can't help but feel that Nike is the worst possible brand we could have gone with. They don't need Everton. Couldn't we have gone with a smaller brand that would really appreciate us? I don't know anyway. We don't know the ins and outs.

Get Pienaar back in, pronto. It is nice to hear Moyes say its getting closer.

At least we know that sooner or later Pienaar will be coming home, Moyes would not be speaking like he is about him if he had any doubts, but like James Stewart said, our finances must really be up the creek without the paddle if it is £2.5 million, which in football terms, really is peanuts (excuse the pun).

Bored beyond belief with this story.

BK and his cronies are the tightest bunch of cretins in the history of EFC... and in my opinion they ain't going anywhere for years yet.

It is dragging out like a soap opera, only it is the worst I have ever seen. I fear the end of the story is going to be bad. It is too slow, there seems to be more trouble then meets the eye.

The sale of Yobo is one of the problems, perhaps the other is the price we can afford to pay, and the price Spurs want. This deal has to get done before it is too late.

Would be very surprised if this deal didn't happen. Very simply we have no money and Spurs are in no particular hurry to get rid of him hence negotiations being slow.

I reckon done at the end of this week for £3m rising to £5m.

Everton are even more skint than me, it's a sad state of affairs.

I have a feeling that we might be gazzumped if we continue to drag our feet like this - we can't be the only club interested in him and other clubs would stump up three or four million pounds without so much as a second thought.

The way we've conducted the Yobo stuff is hardly impressive either is it really?

Moyes never talks about transfers, if he's talking about bringing him in he will obviously come. Be patient.

Just on Sky Sports News it showed Spurs touching down in America for their pre-season. Most of the camera shots focused on AVB, Bale, Van der Vaart etc. But no sign of Pienaar in their travelling party. Hopefully he has been excused to get the deal tied up today or Monday and then he can board the Tuesday flight to Indonesia...

The funny thing is, this has dragged on for an age now, but if Pienaar does eventually sign, this will be lauded by many, as great negotiating by the club.

This is surely a good sign... Pienaar isn't part of the 24-man squad AVB chose to take on Tottenham's US tour.

It's worth staying away from the Everton sites during the summer months when it comes to transfers. Looks like I've not missed much other than some freebee from Scotland. Will check again on the 31st of Aug.

The really worrying thing is that even if Pienaar does sign we will have pretty much the same team we had at the end of last season (minus Drenthe and Straqualursi but plus Naismith) and yet all the teams around us seeming to be strengthening.

Worrying, that to move up the table we will have to outdo the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs who probably have an average spend of about £30m at the moment in this transfer window with more to come...

Sam, it is an absurd situation - the league is totally skewed. Our only hope is the youngsters - Barkley, Rodwell, Garbutt, Junior, etc, coming through. Unfair expectations and all that, I know, but this scenario is more realistic than a billionaire taking over our club.

Sam... Are you worried about that? How did we play at the end of last season? I think we played the best I have seen for years. :-)

The key as I see it is: keeping the players we have, sign Pienaar, and maybe one or two other good players in the season. Maybe some youngsters bloom out. I am positive. We have two(!!) good strikers!! When did that happen?

We did play well Peter but we were also very lucky with injuries. The reason we will struggle to make top 6 is that our overall squad compares very poorly with those around us.

Unless of course the promising youngsters step up, but considering they are this very moment being schooled by Partick Thistle Im not sure how much we should rely on them.

God knows how long weve been an established top flight club... Are our finances really that dire when the capture of a player is dependent on the sale of another?!? What a fucking mess this sorry club must be in...

It's heartbreaking, it really is, when you see the likes of QPR, Swansea etc buying and being linked with players, it makes my blood boil!!!

Why oh why is no-one interested in investing in us?!? Fuck knows others have been bought with much lesser profiles than ours... Looks like it's the old 'sell to buy' policy, hey, Kenwright – you fuckin' phoney bastard.

Sam, I thought Pienaar wanted to stay and was happy to sign a new contract, but wanted a few more quid (parity with Arteta)?

Unless he comes back in for less money than we sold him(unlikely), then its utter stupidity and short-sightedness from the club to have let him go knowing that we didn't have anyone capable of replacing him.

I'm guessing Pienaar probably wanted £10-20k on top of his existing salary. I assume we were paying McFadden and Stracq more than that, neither of whom contributed anything of worth... plus whatever we paid to loan Pienaar back.

Spurs are not fools (unlike Everton, it seems). Didn't Redknapp say something along the lines that Levy had bought Pienaar as an "investment" not because Redknapp wanted him?

James #020 "God it does make you realise how bloody dire our finances are when we can't even stump up £2.5M."

Well at least we're in a better position than last season. Now we can't afford a £2.5M player and last summer we couldn't afford a £325,000 goalie from PNE that went to Leeds.

It's probably said this for ages since he came back on loan, but can anything be read into the fact that Pienaar's Twitter profile reads: "Official Twitter Page of Everton and South Africa National Team Captain Steven Pienaar"?
