Season › 2012-13 › News Cahill open to loan return Lyndon Lloyd , 31 July, 17comments | Jump to most recent Tim Cahill says that he is open to the option of returning to Everton on loan from New York Red Bulls if the move suited both clubs. With the MLS season closed for the winter, many US-based players — among them, of course, Landon Donovan — have taken the opportunity to enjoy spells in the Premier League and it's an obvious option for Cahill. Given the physical toll that his commitment to club and country appears to have taken over the years, though, it would not be surprising if the Australian chose to return home for what would be summer Down Under to recharge his batteries ahead of his first full MLS season. Disclaimer Kevin Day 1 Posted 31/07/2012 at 17:54:18 When the announcement was made he was leaving I made a joke on the original thread about seeing Tim back after xmas for 6 weeks on loan, I never actually thought he would consider it, lol. Thing is, would it be good for us and Tim? If Naismith, or whoever is doing well in Tim's old role, would it be beneficial to upset the apple cart? Don't get me wrong, it would be fantastic seeing him punching a corner flag again one/two/three more times... but maybe we should just move on now. Chris James 2 Posted 31/07/2012 at 18:33:56 I think it depends how we're doing. Personally if we're loaning I wouldn't look beyond another 3 months for Donovan. Mark Stone 3 Posted 31/07/2012 at 22:01:14 I just wish he could have had a final game, which we all knew would be his last. Even if it was a friendly ... he deserved a proper send off from the fans. Never mind, no room for sentimentality in professional sport! Martin Handley 4 Posted 31/07/2012 at 22:11:17 Mark maybe if he comes back on loan he'd stick it up the redshite one more time.I'd welcome him back on loan if only for him to say an emotional farewell to his beloved crowd and smash the corner flag into the car park.Tim thank you very much and your place in our hearts is well and truly cemented, a fantastic player a true blue and a gentleman, this isn't "goodbye" – just "See ya later, mate!" Matt Traynor 5 Posted 31/07/2012 at 23:05:53 I think part of Tim's problem is he never got a break in the summer, especially when Australia switched Federations from Oceania to Asia, which threw up the Asia Cup. Given his age, I imagine he would be better served taking the break, but knowing Tim, he'd swim back for the chance to play for us again. Phil Roberts 6 Posted 31/07/2012 at 23:17:00 Kevin #040, when I made mine it was not a joke. Adam Fenlon 7 Posted 01/08/2012 at 03:23:59 He's got nothing to prove in the Premier League - so only makes sense if it was for some sort of farewell goodwill thing, which in all honesty would seem like a bit of a circus..Hope he bangs them in for the New York team and then it might make a little sense from a footballing perspective. Peter Thistle 8 Posted 01/08/2012 at 04:43:18 Never look back....... He had a long time with us, time to move on.... Thomas Windsor 9 Posted 01/08/2012 at 11:44:35 Time to move on. Thanks Tim — you were never the same player during the last 18 months but good luck in America. Bob Willis 10 Posted 01/08/2012 at 13:49:24 Why would we want him back? People have been screaming for Moyes to get rid - as he was too old, past it, costing too much, taking a youngster's place! So why would Moyes want him back?I wouldn't - despite his past 'legend' status and all he's done for the club. Denis Richardson 11 Posted 01/08/2012 at 14:45:01 Can gladly come back to train and stay fit during the MLS close season (assuming we're not paying anything) and then maybe get a subs appearance at a home match to get a good send off and goodbye. From a pure footballing perspective, not sure what it would bring to us - if we have not improved and still need him come Jan/Feb, then somethings really gone wrong with the Naysmith and Pienaar signings (and hopefully others that will join before end of August).Would also take Donovan back on loan before TC.....think we can only loan a max of 4 players are a time (may be wrong), so depending on who we bring in in August and Donovan, we may not have room for him anyway. Steve King 12 Posted 01/08/2012 at 16:40:46 To be fair it was just a response to a journalists question of whether he would consider it.........an honest answer to a purely speculative question. Can't see it happening and, from everton's perspective, I can't see why we would want him back, he was pretty awful last year.I'd rather let him leave with many good memories and legendary status than try and add to it at the risk of ruining a good thing. Peter McIver 13 Posted 01/08/2012 at 17:28:55 Welcome him back anytime with open arms/heart. Tim reminded us all ( I hope ) what it means to support everton. Of course he would be used as our position at the time required. At the very least he would get to say goodbye and pummel that flag one last time.Tim Cahill: LEST WE FORGET Pablo Connelly 14 Posted 01/08/2012 at 18:19:38 One point seems to have been lost here; if Tim came back he would have to serve a 3-match ban. Therefore paying his wages for 6 weeks when he couldn't pay for at least 2 of them doesn't really make sense. Drew O'Neall 15 Posted 01/08/2012 at 22:37:41 Tim Cahill played like a fan would if he had the ability.. Love him but it's time for both parties to move on. We'll see him around Goodison before long. Jason Lam 17 Posted 02/08/2012 at 04:01:25 Will he have to serve his suspension first?
