Tony Hibbert's Testimonial
Everton will celebrate the career of devoted and determined Huyton-born Blue, Tony Hibbert, who has played in over 300 senior games over the last 10+ years, since he progressed through the Everton Academy and into David Moyes's Premier League side. The opposition is AEK Athens, and the kick-off is set for 7:45 pm at Goodison Park. The match is NOT part of the EvertonTV pre-season package.

Everton got off to a bright start, Nasimith scoring inside the first 3 minutes off a nice ball from Pienaar. But AEK equalised a few minutes later.

Naismith made it 2 - 1 on 15 mins with an easy far-post header after being picked out by Pienaar for a peach of cross of a nice ball fed in to him by Baines.

Gibson picked up a knock and went off early, to be replaced by Neville.

The huge crowd went crazy when Hibbert made a brilliant shot from distance that forced a great save. From the corner, Pienaar swung it to the back post where Naismith knocked it home off Heitinga's toe after Fellainii's header came back off the bar, to give the former rangers player an impressive first-half hat-trick.

Mucha, Coleman and Gueye came on for the second half. Jelavic fluffed a glorious chance, passing the ball into the keeper's hands.

Then a free-kick, up steps Tony Hibbert and smashes it home, Que the riot, fans invade the pitch, pandemonium, Hibbert mobbed, upset stewards caught napping, causes teams to leave the field. What a moment!

The rest of the game was a bit of an anti-climax after that. But it will always be remembered as The Night That Hibbert Scored... and there was a riot.

90 mins and Tony Hibbert left the field to a standing ovation.

Everton:Howard (46' Mucha), Hibbert, Baines (60' Barkley), Distin, Heitinga (77' Duffy), Gibson (18' Neville), Osman, Pienaar (85' Anichebe), Fellaini (46' Gueye), Naismith (46' Coleman), Jelavic .
Subs: Rodwell, Vellios.

Thanks Peter, hopefully the "digital police" won't block it in my office here in Houston. Really hope that this match is worth it and gets stacks of money for Hibbo and his two charities. Always liked him, and would like to take the first shot at him...............it's HIBBO's fault!

Hibbo first caught my eye in an FA Youth Cup game. It must have been something to do with his centre of gravity or his blue blood but he looked like a proper footballer. I next saw him in action in a pre-season friendly at Colwyn Bay. He played as a defensive midfielder and, besides spending more time sliding on his arse than on his feet, was outstanding. He possessed a skill which is undervalued in the modern game, he could tackle firmly and fairly – not unlike Howard Kendall.

Since then I’ve been a fan of Hibbo and regret that he is further evidence that Evertonians like to eat their young. If you don’t believe me then ask Colin Harvey, Jimmy Husband, Mike Lyons and David Unsworth. I’ve always thought of Hibbo as one of us. Without question, he deserves the recognition but not necessarily the extra cash associated with a Goodison testimonial.

If Hibbo had learnt to assault corner flags, he would be a candidate for Gwladys Street’s Hall of Fame. Sadly he’ll have to make do with being recognized as a proper footballer and a great Blue.

David, he actually reminds me more of Tommy Wright when he stretches into those thundering tackles – and I'd certainly give him the honour of being an Everton Leg-End! :)

Michael, why has your name changed to David France - or am I speaking to the Dr himself?

Gerry, the great man sent me some words...

It was easier to paste them and post them, then change the names to protect the guilty...

But you were just too quick for me.

Next I'll have to come back in and clean up!

Ha - caught you out as a ghost writer at last. Please pass on my best health wishes to the man himself - and let him know that I am still waiting on his visit back to hot and humid Houston for that Vic and Anthony's meal I promised him last year on ToffeeWeb

I see that all of our friends are on the Forum today :)

After Peter's arrest for posting that website above, is it really just you and me, as I am currently supposed to be working in the office here?

Naismith is exactly who I expected him to be. We should continue raiding Rangers for players, Alan McGregor would be the next player I'd like to see, a big upgrade on Howard who i've never fancied as a keeper. If all fails with Rangers, we should grab Kayal and Wanwama from Celtic, quality players.

Gerry,

Yes the 4th goal was definitely Hibbo's fault, he was completely out of position!

Anyone translate Greek? I want to see the goals again and they're just chatting!
