Season › 2012-13 › News Moyes picks up another Irish prospect Lyndon Lloyd , 11 August, 9comments | Jump to most recent Everton appear to have signed another promising young Irish defender in form of Ben McLaughlin from Dundalk. According to the Irish Times, the 17-year-old joins Seamus Coleman and Shane Duffy at Everton for a nominal fee, presumably with add-ons if he goes on to play regularly for David Moyes's side. Disclaimer Kane Dennison 2 Posted 11/08/2012 at 20:07:09 He is 5 ft 10 in and can play holding midfielder, right back and central, he has also got many MotM awards and has played constantly good as well as improving a lot in his 15 starts this season. I don't see him being first team for awhile though perhaps a few subs and cup games first season then go out on loan to League 1 or 2 second season and then, when he is 19, he may get loan for promoted team to Premier League for half a season then come back for the first team. But yea, if we get him cheap I'll be happy but he is for the future. A top prospect. GJ Butler 3 Posted 11/08/2012 at 20:19:24 As a season ticket holder for Shamrock Rovers here in Ireland I can't say I've seen him play, but I can say there is a huge fear in the league that Dundalk haven't the finances in place to last the season, so if Everton have given them any sort of a fee, it'll be a huge help to the league! Kane Dennison 4 Posted 11/08/2012 at 20:25:05 5'10 right back I think but can play central and midfield. Seamus Murphy 5 Posted 12/08/2012 at 01:57:51 Heard the fee was €50k Shane Corcoran 7 Posted 12/08/2012 at 15:54:27 http://www.dundalkfc.com/players/first-team-squad/ben-mclaughlinHere he is but no word from Dundalk or Everton that he's signed. Steavey Buckley 8 Posted 12/08/2012 at 16:46:34 No disrespect to the young Irish player, but don't we have other promising young players in the same position? Shane Corcoran 9 Posted 12/08/2012 at 18:11:29 I think it says he covers centre back. Plus I don't think Moyes trusts or ever will trust Coleman at right back. But anyway, it's all about staying afloat so if we can get a six figure sum for him in year to come it'll be mission accomplished. Ged Simpson 10 Posted 13/08/2012 at 11:13:09 Sell on Shane Edward Simpson 11 Posted 14/08/2012 at 04:41:52 You're right Shane, Coleman can't defend for toffee. Looked good in the preseason friendlies as an attacking player though.
