Man City: "a dream come true"

, 12 August, 36comments  |  Jump to most recent
In this interview, Jack Rodwell reveals that negotiations for his move to Manchester City have been going on for the last couple of weeks and it has all been kept under wraps "quite nicely".

Man City,... massive club... League Champions... once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, etc etc etc.

Just heard Rodwell say too good an offer to turn down and chairman didn't want him to go. So seems Rodwell was the one who made the decision. Can't blame the lad, goes to the Champions, great players, trebles his wages and doesn't have his own fans slagging him off.

"I have a special relationship with chairman Bill Kenwright, who did not want me to leave".

What an odd thing to say!

Phil he should have added "But the bank was telling him he had no choice!"

He will say what ever he is told to Peter. 100k a week tends to have that effect.

Quite instructive that not a single site, twatter source or ITK had even a sniff of this. What does that tell you about all the bullshit that gets posted every transfer window?

"I have a special relationship with chairman Bill Kenwright, who did not want me to leave"

What a suspicious thing to say!

Alex - Why suspicious?

BK - "I don't want you to leave, but if you want to go, it's a good offer, the bank will be pleased . . ."

JR - "I'm off!"

It's great for little Jack. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, after all, and apparently this – the sponds – is a dream come true. Like Rooney, he was raised in affluent Tuebrook with nothing except his two feet to keep him out of the clutches of the law, sorry, sorry, dilapidated giz-a-job wasteland terraced housing Birkdale.

Your heart has gotta warm: down-on-luck Scouse lad makes it good against all the odds. Roy of the Rovers stuff for me, from one last injury to the next and one shite headless gormless game to another. Hanging out with Milner at the England camp was just the icing on the cake... Poor old Jack probably couldn't stop his sides from splitting, oh and that wag, Barry.

Gotta love these scouse rags-to-riches stories: all the way from Birkdale to Shitty, from no money to waterfalls of sponds. It's so like Wayne, it's thrilling. I can fully understand why peeps would hammer Wayne but give good old Scouse rags-to-riches Rodders a big fat slap back on the back.

From here to obscurity, Rodders la, like... See that Shitty bench at the Shield today, will you really be warming it? For a while, perhaps... until the first injury. Gotta laugh: expert commentator, 'and so where will Rodwell fit into this team', Answer, 'erm ... well ... you see ... it might be ... arm'.

'Money, money, money, it's a Prem footie player's with his head in his ass and swaggering "I am" world'.

Join the ranks of the great did-not-quite-make-it coz I have miles off unrealistic views of myself Rodders, like. Thanks for the money and the (two or three) memories. Out of the so-called prize assets, you were the one with tight fingers crossed, that I wanted to go. Perhaps Moyes played you wrong as some sway, but my hunch is that you will be found wanting.

Dream come true my ass Birkdale boy, you'll be lucky to get a chumps medal for requisite number of games and if a good dawn breaks, a league cup medal (Rodwell for Barry 88th minute).

Bad day for you kid, great day for us. £12 mill, fuck me!

Give it long enough and the Man City fans will be moaning about him being shit and not worth the money.

I wish he would have stayed. Thought he'd come good with us.

Interesting your comment Michael, "Quite instructive that not a single site, twatter source or ITK had even a sniff of this". So if we assume a couple weeks to make it all happen, maybe we have players incoming based specifically on cash from Rodders' sale.

Looking forward to this next week.

Didn't Arteta come out with something similar? Didn't the board demand an apology from the Echo because they hadn't demanded a sale, yet Moyes didn't see a penny? It's Kenwright we're talking about here...

Sorry James but I wouldn't be holding my breath, it will be a nice surprise if he does get to spend it, but I think the bank will be saying thank you and the debt will still be £40 million plus, despite over £30 million in sales not going to Moyes.

The one good thing from this sale is that it hasn't come on deadline day like usual, there can be no excuse about not having time for some kind of re-investment, it's today's “Anouncement” I'm waiting nervously for.

Yes.. very good observation Michael....

David Frances post the other day when he referred to the unfortunate love of Evertonians liking to eat our young (or something like that) is all over the comments... unfortunate we cant just accept that a young Blue blooded Evertonian who has captained every age Group and already an England international might have some potential... that can be realised with the right manager/players/maturity/etc. Why do we need to break our "own kids" down at the first sight of any weakness or developmental needs.

Kevin, Owen to Everton getting thrown in the hat again.

Owen won't cost a fortune or a large signing on fee, because Moyes won't
pay silly money.

I think owen would tip even the most hardest of fans over the edge paul, and ultimately spell the end of BK, here's hoping for the latter.

Rodwell back on a season long loan was what some fella was saying at work this morning..........he was adamant...........however I work in London and he is a cockney Chelsea fan so how the F would he know??? Its amazing how these rumors can start!!
99.9% are utter Bollocks, even with "a source within the club"

Would only accept Owen if he was on less that Vellios, cause he should certainly play less than him!

I've just read a sportsvibe article on Rodwell's arrival at Man City he is quoted as saying what has been mentioned already on the two Rodwell articles so far ie. didn't want to go, Chairman and me and City great oppurtunity etc etc....
The one that caught my attention was Mancini's comments...

“He is a good player,” “He is young and this is the first time he is at a club that plays to win. It will be different for him.

“But in a couple of years I am sure he will be a top and stronger midfielder.”

Rodwell is Mancini’s first signing of the summer as another rising star from Everton departs from Goodison Park...

Well that says a lot to me about how other people see Everton in the footballing world, I'm not for slagging Moyes off by any stretch of the Imagination but for one of you Peer's to come out and say that about the way you run the club/team I just find insulting and then wonder what could be the real meaning of a comment like that??

Is it a way of advertising an Exodus into their club? I do know it seems quite obvious though that Moyes himself plays right into the hands of these remarks sometimes no matter who it's from!

I'd like to see a More positive start to the season and see Moyes get at least half of the money from all outgoing player sales!!!

I liked Jack as a lad, but for me he always flattered to deceive. Probably wouldn't have been a regular starter for us if everyone was fit, so he's certainly not going to start for City. I've got a feeling his career is going to go the way of the likes of Jeffers etc.. whose careers went downhill after a move to a "big" club. I hope I"m wrong but I don't think I will be. Good luck Jack, you"re going to need it.

Good luck Jack but think potential will be a word that follows you for your career, I can't see Platt and Mancini helping you to fulfill it – they need big-money signings that will slot into a side that doesn't need coaching, Johnson is an example of that. If we had to sacrifice either Baines, Fellaini or Rodwell, then the right man has gone. Let's just hope we can add to the squad, decent right winger will do.

After watching the Olympics over the last couple of weeks and the committment and passion those people put into their sport you really can see how disgusting football can look to the outsider. Rodwell's gone for the money pure and simple and to be honest I think we will probably come off much better from the deal. Man U were supposed to have been tracking him but clearly they've gone cold on the idea over the last 18 months or so. The lad's OK but hasn't shone for us in ages so as long as Moyes can have some of the transfer cash we should be laughing. As for Mancini's comments - he's an arrogant twat anyway who thinks he's a great manager because he's got a squad worth over £1bn.

Mike, I disagree.

Mancini's words are not only accurate but the fact he said them without a thought to repercussions from Goodison speaks volumes.

Present day EFC are complete no-marks.

In some ways it's sad to see Jack go and in others I can see the sense in it. We are a selling club, like it or not, so someone had to go this summer to balance the books. Be thankful it wasn't Jelavic or the Big Fella.

Rodwell will improve away from Moyes, I have no doubt about that. Will he be happy at City not being a regular? Well, he wasn't a regular here under Davey Moyes so the trebling of his income can soften the blow....

Good Luck to the lad, I say; he never moaned or rocked the boat at Everton. iif we had a better run club that could pay the going rate these days, he probably would have stayed.

i am not in the least bit sorry he left, in fact I am pleased we got all that money to hopefully invest in a good player, he left a big club to move to a rich club.

"Rodwell will improve away from Moyes, I have no doubt about that" - He should do, with the likes of Yaya, Silva et co to learn from, instead of Neville. Nothing to do with Moyes.

You have to actually be fit to get into a team to progress, or are we blaming Moyes for his paper thin hamstring now?

Robbie Muldoon

Tony Marsh 546: Nail on the head.

I think the only way for us to break the monopoly on the league is to develop youth talent and add shrewd signings such as Jelavic. With piss poor management of the club this will never happen. How can a club get a new kit deal with Nike and be no better off than the porevious shirt deal with Le Coq Sportif?

Good luck Jack, I'm sure you'll develop into a top player.

Paul Gladwell
42 Posted 14/08/2012 at 12:41:27
Tony, you cannot blame Moyes for Rodwells performances for us, I watched the lad closely when he was given chances last year against lesser teams and he was shite, he bounced around giving these six-yard crab passes never having the balls to drive forward, he was over hyped and quite honestly I was sick of his talk about being fit and raring to go to stake a claim for England, when his talk should have been playing for Everton first.

I am a big critic of Moyes but you cannot blame him for many things, Rooney has got his medals and is a great player, but is he as good as we all thought he would be because he left us? I don't think he is anywhere near to what I thought he would turn out to be.
Tony J Williams

I'm with Paul on the Rooney thing, he was the most exciting player to watch at the Euros when he was with us and you have to look back to that tournament to find a game when Rooney stood out in a tournament.

Since going to Man U, he is nowhere near as exciting to watch and he was even thrown out on the wing to accommodate Ronaldo, when he was there.

You very rarely see him get the ball and force his way forward, he is always looking for the pass, a lot of times even when he is is positions to shoot. I thought he would be a far better player than he is now.

Michael Kenrick
44 Posted 14/08/2012 at 14:08:19
I'm puzzled, Tony, by your absolute faith in the infallibility of coaching young talent.

We hear loads about "bringing them on the right way" — that means there must be a wrong way too.

The only difference is none of the coaches will ever admit to it.

Paul Gladwell
45 Posted 14/08/2012 at 14:08:28
I cannot recall Rooney playing as well for England as he did whilst with us and I still believe his performance against Bolton at Home and Newcastle in the cup were as good as anything he has ever produced. Both had me shaking my head, I genuinely thought he would be the best in the world and he is not, never has and never will be, but that's just my opinion. Have Man Utd done a better job with him than us? No chance.
