God bless you, Kev, and your family. COYB. Michael Upton 7 Posted 22/08/2012 at 14:51:28 I've just heard the news about Kevin Sheedy fighting bowel cancer. It came as a big shock to me, as I imagine it did to most Blues. A chilling reminder that even our heroes are mortal. Sheedy was a true Blue legend and one of my boyhood heroes, the sublimely skilled creator whose wizard-like left foot set up or scored so many of those goals we all love to remember. I can only join with all Evertonians and others around the world in wishing Kevin well in his battle for health. Tony Horne 8 Posted 22/08/2012 at 14:51:47 This should lift his spirits a bit though.http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/stevewilson/2012/08/liverpool_documentary_should_m.htmlBest 2 fingers in football has Sheeds........ John Hughes 9 Posted 22/08/2012 at 14:52:24 He was my favourite player when I was growing up and has the sweetest left foot I have ever seen. Dave McCarten 10 Posted 22/08/2012 at 14:55:50 Give that big "c" a good kick with that sweet left foot, get well soon fella. Mike Allison 11 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:16:54 Seems like a fairly optimistic prognosis. Good luck Kevin, you were one of the reasons I started supporting Everton, and the main reason I got good on my left foot! Les Mallinson 12 Posted 22/08/2012 at 14:52:24 Hope all goes well tomorrow Kevin, Get back to finch farm a.s.a.p, the lads will miss you I'm sure, and I'll miss my lift to the station.Wishing you a speedy recovery, from the Espana blues John Nugent 13 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:18:45 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqAg9lp7Uj8Scores against the shite and gives them 'two fingers' Eddie McBride 14 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:22:42 God be with you, Sheeds. Rob Clarke 15 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:26:04 Best wishes to Kevin, hope all goes well, keep positive, good luck old lad Nick Entwistle 16 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:28:49 Made England's draw with Ireland at Italia '90 palatable. Great player and by all accounts doing great things with the U18s. Peter Mills 17 Posted 22/08/2012 at 15:59:58 I had the pleasure of sitting next to Kevin at a lunch a few years ago, what a nice guy, no superstar ego about him at all. I mentioned to him that he used to take a bit of stick now and again from the crowd, he laughed and said he got a lot of stick a lot of the the time! He added that it didn't worry him in the slightest, even when he was having a bad day on the pitch he always knew he had the skill to score a goal or put a cross over to turn a game.Good luck Kevin, take that same confidence with you into this operation and you will come through successfully and healthily. We'll be thinking of you at Villa on Saturday, remembering what was effectively a title winning thunderbolt from you at the same ground. Brian Bates 18 Posted 22/08/2012 at 16:12:29 All the best Sheeds, legend Keith Glazzard 19 Posted 22/08/2012 at 16:24:33 There'a huge family rooting for you Kevin - get well soon. Most of us, unfortunately, know something about cancer, but just in case you don't, prompt surgery is by far the best, and most hopeful, treatment. Catch it early, cut it out and get it in the bucket. Matt Traynor 20 Posted 22/08/2012 at 16:34:54 Great player in his pomp, although his "apparent" workrate probably would have people frothing had he played in this area, with ToffeeWeb and other social media sites around. His "It's not ideal" quote really does sum up his laid back attitude to life, which was actually not how he played - I even saw him get booked for a foul once! Always had time for the fans and I actually delayed him from talking to a reporter after a game at Goodison once. The club has set up an email address (sheeds@evertonfc.com) for those who wish to send in their best wishes, however I'm sure he knows he has good thoughts from all Blues, and it seems a lot of "neutrals". As others have said, hope he sticks two fingers up to this as emphatically as he did to the Kop. Chris Matheson 21 Posted 22/08/2012 at 16:42:35 Sheeds you are truly one of the Greats, in your skill and achievements on the pitch, in your service to the club since your playing days ended, and in your lack of ego and the way you conduct yourself. Everyone around the club is fighting alongside you. I doubt it is going to be easy for the next few months, but we can beat this thing. Good luck, see you soon back home at Goodison. Paul Hughes 22 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:06:43 One of the greatest. My thoughts and prayers are with you, hoping for a speedy recovery.Good Luck, Sheeds Gareth Fieldstead 23 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:12:05 Thoughts and prayers are with you Kevin, again like so many you were one of my heroes. Top class on the pitch and gentleman off it. As stated above awlays had time for the fans. Frankly the best left foot I have ever seen. Catching this thing quickly is great news. get back soon. Kevin Day 24 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:20:49 Legend! Get well soon and look forward to seeing you back at the old lady very soon Andy Parsons 25 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:24:15 Shocked by the news but confident that Sheeds will have a quick and full recovery. He'll be in good hands and have so many people rooting for him. Karl Jones 26 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:30:42 Awesome player..Total class..Get well soon Sheeds. Danny Burke 27 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:32:54 For a good prognosis it's so so so important to catch it early which thankfully it seems he has done. Best of luck Sheeds, thoughts and prayers with you and your family. Mike Gaynes 28 Posted 22/08/2012 at 17:46:03 Kevin Sheedy was the reason I became an Everton fan.All the very best, Sheeds. I wish him all the best. I am sure all us Evertonians will be here for him through these dark times for him. Lenny Kingman 33 Posted 22/08/2012 at 19:18:55 Brendan @ 355"Two fingers up to the big C just lilke you gave them orrible shower!"Totally agree with those sentimentsCharlie Adam is sitting there with his sweet left foot well underused waiting patiently to escape from alcatraz as Sheedy was. When he does he can get the legend that is Sheeds up in his recovery bed and smiling. Lightening strikes twice. The baton is passed.Good luck Kevin you have the blues right now but the Blues will pull you through. Damian Braithwaite 34 Posted 22/08/2012 at 19:11:27 All the best sheeds, my favourite player of the glory years. Paul Johnson 35 Posted 22/08/2012 at 19:47:21 Gutted, Kevin gave me some of my finest memories in the game. I don't say this lightly and I dare anyone to challenge me but one of the finest to wear the Royal Blue. Also a gentle man of the finest order who I had the pleasure to meet once ( I was the slobbering drunk) but he gave me all the time he had. I think he appreciated the big sloppy kiss as well.Keep positive Kevin and remember there are literally millions willing your recovery. Karl Masters 36 Posted 22/08/2012 at 19:59:53 I remember his debut at Watford almost thirty years ago today. (28/8/82 ). He and the team were awful and lost 2-0. But a week later we played a very good Spurs team at Goodison and Kevin scored after seven minutes to set us on our way to a 3-1 win. He never really looked back after that and I remember his raking cross field passing as well as the terrific goals.Get well soon, Kevin. Tim O'Connell 37 Posted 22/08/2012 at 20:33:10 Puts everything into perspective. Nothing but the best for Sheeds as he was and is for EFC. The mind is a powerfull tool so keep fighting so you can continue to bring the youngsters through and we can see you back soon! Many fond memories but more importantly is Sheeds coming back and helping the dream live on! Stephen Davies 38 Posted 22/08/2012 at 20:39:00 A great servant to the club, lets hope the treatment goes well and he is back coaching when he is fit and well David Hallwood 39 Posted 22/08/2012 at 20:44:12 Get well soon Sheeds, a truely awsome player and one of the nice guys. Always remember everyone making a fuss of Ipswich's Paul Cooper as a penalty saver. Didn't have a scooby doo how to deal with Sheeds free kicks !! She was operated on and needed no further treatment. Two years down the line and she's now fine.Your chances are significantly improved if they get it in time. Do it!!Sheedy, brilliant player and we wish you all the best COYB> John Sheron 46 Posted 23/08/2012 at 09:34:24 Sheeds,I watched you in ore in the glory years and enjoyed a night-out with you in Melbourne during a pre-season tour. Growing up, you were my favourite Everton player (a bit of a hero for me). We all hope you a speedy recovery. Mike McIlroy 51 Posted 23/08/2012 at 12:03:34 The blokes a legend. Remember very clearly being behind the goal at Villa Park 1987 . 17000 blue noses had taken two sides of the ground and we were playing shite. We got a free kick and the name 'Sheedy Sheedy' rang out. Bullet straight in the top corner and I ended up on my arse in a crowd of mental Blues but as the Addidas Gazelles danced on my head I was smiling like a cheshire cat. He was a fighter then and he'll fight this off now, I'm sure of it Barry Stevens 52 Posted 23/08/2012 at 14:18:34 Great player and servant to our club. Scored some crackers and will always be a legend for the v to the red shite.
